Uy yeah, I know that. Doesn't mean I want to see/know Aang died. You may be glad for it, but most people don't like seeing their fave charry's pass on. To put it into perspective for our fandom, it would be like having the next generation and either Naruto or Sakura, or even both of them just being dead. You'd understand it's time for the next generation to 'have their chance in the spotlight', but you'd still miss and be sad you'd no longer see/have your fave charrys about.

Chou...you're kind of
We've been talking about the actual show sequel in this thread, since the season finale of the first show.
Also if you'd read a few of the posts within even the last day you would have seen someone already posted basically the same info you just did, and that's what we've been discussing ^^

Oh my bad about the double post of the article.

I didn't know there was an official announcement of an actual sequel when the show ended. I must have missed that part. I thought they just officially announced it the other day. But if you guys have been talking about the actual sequel since the tv show ended, I must have just missed it when they officially announced it. Sorry. ^^

as a guide to this avatar too. Also...... His son Tenzin is Korra's teacher. So it looks like he did have
a happy life atleast for a while. He lived to 50-60 according to my estimates so for all you know
he died of natural causes

Either that or they're simply milking the franchise for all it can give profit-wise...

Well, I really thought they were going to stick to their guns and leave it at 1 series, 3 seasons. I respected them a lot for going into this with that in mind, one clear story, and there' out of there. But now there's a sequel. I'm hoping what happened was Nickolodean wanted a second season and was willing to proceed without the creators, and the creators loving their series so much decided to go along for the ride if for nothing else but to not see their story be destroyed. Essentially to prevent a Dragonball GT.

Yeah, I'm sure he'll show up as a guide, and I'm sure we'll find out how he dies. And we'll learn that his wife who bared him a child was actually Mang

I'll second your vote for taking anything other than the movie.

It's interesting that you like Toph and Meng* with them both being voiced by the same actress. I would love to seen an old ornery Toph.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the death of Avatar.
Steampunk? Horrible? Man, we're never going to see eye to eye on anything at this rate.
Also, if anything would kill Avatar it would be it's crappy movie above anything else.

I'm not sure there's an actual title for the genre you're thinking of, but it sounds like you're speaking of things taking a victorian era aesthetic and running it to the extreme. I'm not sure how you got that mixed with steampunk, actually; what you describe sounds very different. Steampunk is a futuristic society born of a "what-if" scenario of technology and it's progress centering around steam power.

... Where does the 'Punk' part come in? Are some of the creators of the Steam technology delinquents in school?

Well, Steampunk is called that as an homage and/or joke in regards to Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk is a word culled from... well, combining cybernetics and punk. So thus, it carried over and we see Steampunk.
Also, it's never called Steampunk in story; it's a genre subtype, not a descriptor or anything.

"Mike and Bryan confirm that Katara is indeed the mother of Tenzin, and that Aang died early because he sort of burned up some of his extra time during his 100 years in the iceberg."
Mike and Bryan don't seem very pleased when asked about the movie, and I don't blame them.
Click the sources linked on the DA page. I linked the DA Journal because GreenifyME is a great source for breaking ATLA news. Some simple Google searching would have also confirmed it.
At Comic Con this past weekend, I was able to ask Mike and Bryan about the presence of guns. They confirmed that there would be no guns in 'The Legend of Korra'. They said they want to avoid them for as long as possible.
I also asked them about a blu-ray release for ATLA, and they said that would probably never happen. They said it would require far too much work/rework to make. So for everyone holding out on blu-ray, it seems the DVD releases will have to be enough.
To all you worrying about steampunk, calm down! The Avatar team crafted a wonderful world with the first series, why do you think they would screw it up? If you honestly think 'The Legend of Korra' will fail solely based on that fact that one city will be created around steampunk, you seriously lack critical thinking processes.

I'll third it and drink to the fact that I didn't pay a cent to see it

And I don't particularly care for Meng, but I enjoyed her adoration for Aang - if it had to be someone to do so. It made sense. Also I had other unrelated preferences that Aang stay asexual in the show and then hopes that he'd go holler at that chick at his Fire Nation school, get a date, sing the Avatar rendition of A Whole New World to her atop Appa and then get married and have babies with her. I'd dig that.
Old lady Toph has to be a must. Just one flashback, please, Bryke. One. Or one with Jun and legal!Toph in a barfight. oh god be still my heart~
DEM ARMS AND SHOULDERS AND CHILD BARIN' HIPS
tomboys get all the men (and ladies). maybe she'll just be a pimp. that way we won't have to deal with the undeveloped romance in a 12-episode arc jfc.
