Sasuke was not in a sane state at that time. A better example for that argument would be that he is apparently "good" now and still doesn't seem to give a flying kitten. We can assume that "he hides his feelings" and say that we don't know how he feels yet, but where the manga back up?

He didn't joke right before that, right? Whenever Naruto thinks of this, it's right after she demonstrates her power, not after he makes a joke. He's just acknowledging that..well it's dangerous to be his usual goofy self aorund Sakura. The best thing is...he doesn't stop. :')
Besides why would you consider a joke ? A joke is something you blurt out, the uhms and ehms says how he was thinking carefully what to answer.
Even if it was a joke, that sure would be awkward lol. Because Minato still thinks it's not, and then Naruto will have to admit that he wasn't serious before Minato dies again, most likely on the battlefield.
Minato is about to pass away, they're waving goodbye with tears and flashbacks;
"btw, dad..it was just a joke! I forgot to tell you, my true love is Hinata-chan!"
That's some crappy writing. I can't believe some people rather want this than NS. Apparently it's that bad..

I mean Naruto always smiles warmly and appreciates Sakura's massive power all the time . It has nothing to do with making jokes at all . He just admires how strong she is , and the fact that she probably don't even know it herself . And why would he even joke about something like that to his dead father that he may never see again .? That makes no sense whatsoever to me , he even gave them his blessings and all . Naruto's face looked dead ass serious too , he didn't have a goofy grin or a funny face on his face like he did back in Chapters 1 and 4 when he made pranks and jokes . They need to stop downplaying Naruto's feelings of love for Sasuke's feelings that isn't there . and how can it even bind with Jairaya's words Naruto hasn't gotten dumped by Sakura nor has she rejected him so far in part 2 . As far as I remember she has been accepting his dates lately as of when he came back from the time skip . I mean why would he lie to his dad , lie on Sakura and most of all lie to himself when he doesn't like people who lie to themselves and especially IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR .

^Good point, sushi , the panel you just show was included on Vj's next rant ''logically explaining '' that Naruto is submissive and Sakura is a crazy chick ......
The thing is , how it binds with Jiraya's words?

'apparently he did when he was going to do the Sexy Jutsu in front of Sakura with Konohamaru when he first came back . ' is what is like to be used that he joked but whats not understood was that she beat him up for it immediately , so that was just Naruto appreciating and admiring hos strong she was as he always does . He did it during the Chuunin Exams also , no joke was there . Naruto was being honest with himself I don't see why he would lie about that when he clearly doesn't like people to lie to themselves .

Add the fact he is meant to surpass Jiraiya and Obito on this matter.
Unless he's implying that they failed because they were not lucky enough to have a Hinata stalking them instead of working hard and never giving up.
The fact is that Jiraiya give up on Tsunade and Obito died.

The fact is , Naruto knows about Hinata's feelings and friendzoned her already indirectly . Exactly , Naruto is supposed to surpass the old generation whats so hard to understand about that .? If he failed at being with Sakura like Obito with Rin and Jairaya with Tsunade , then it would be the old generation all over again and this would go against Naruto's nindo in every way possible .

LOL @ those panels (from the previous page). That's why I think even a yaoi couple is more likely than SS, I mean, al least it makes sense to say Sasuke is thinking about Naruto even after trying to kill him.

One thing I found interesting about how other fandoms interpret this panel is, even if you consider Naruto's speech as a joke, which is not, you mandatorily have to assume his choice of words was a tremendous coincidence.
He could've said anything related to any of Sakura's traits to poke fun out of the situation (considering a scenario where the first impression Naruto wants to give his father is by poking fun at the person who... is trying to... heal... him...... ??), like for example her forehead being large or her super "man" strength. I am certain it would have triggered the same reaction on her.
He could also have said anything related to Hinata.
He could also have not said anything at all.
But no, he chose to say his girlfriend is Sakura with a serious expression.
Is it really us the brainless zombies who like to see things that are not really there?
I rather believe on the Genjutsu theory. They want to live on their own Infinite Tsukuyomi world than to face the real events.

Bolded: There you go , that why its a joke .............
Many and when i say many still believe NS is dead 469-470 her Failsession , What does Sai know ,what does Minato know ? Sakura loves Sasuke even ''jizzed'' back at 632 when Sasuke saved her , Naruto doesn't love Sakura he loves Hinata now , Karin who was that ? Oh must be a fodder..
Naruto's love is a joke/comic relief/failed crush , b-but when its about Sakura and Hinata its true love , dafuq?
Those ships are sunk to the bottom of the bloody sea/ocean and some ship/believe in those pairings . Its flooded with double standards..

Not only his nindo, but the way Kishi set up his story. Of course "winning" Sakura is not a personal goal of his, it's all Kishi's goal.
It sounds wrong when I hear that Naruto will "win" her heart, because she is not a prize to be won. But....this is fiction after all. Jiraiya's last panel leaves me thinking it has to do with Kishi's direction, not what Naruto wants. Yes, Naruto will surpass the previous generations(his parallels) in every way they mentioned; Save the world, his best friend, and get the girl. If not, Jiraiya would not have listed not getting with Tsunade as one of his dying regrets, Kishi purposely set it up for Naruto's future.

If Naruto had been reminded of Hinata in 631, given her one single thought or even just looked at her direction; it would show us that he had started seeing her in a romantic light. It was the perfect opportunity. Girlfriend=Hinata doesn't ring a bell to Naruto.

Hoping for him to not do the same thing Hashirama did, like killing himself or letting Sasuke be kage.

This is the most complicated goal. Because fans have their own version of what it means to save Sasuke.
In my opinion it is enough make him see the light(lol), he doesn't need to survive.
But if one of these goals were to fail, this one would be the most likely. Naruto has a lot to learn from it. You can't save everybody. A message that has also been set up for him.

yeah he wants her happiness , and the way Kishi set it up Naruto is the source of her happiness .

The problem is Naruto's words on their first reunion were '' I can't become hokage if i can't save one friend'' if he is to kill Sasuke how's he gonna accept the title ?
But you are both right though i think the same way , although i've been here and there (anti NS tag) reading that '' if Naruto kills Sasuke ,he and Sakura won't end up together''.
I've though about this too , what do you guys think?
