So, I was watching an old poster of Naruto (it's somewhere in the first five chapters), where Naruto is shown on a toad, Sasuke on a snake and Sakura on a slug (though I'm majorly disappointed that till now Sakura has still not got a summoning contract with the slug )

So, drawing hypothesis from this:
As we know, the snake is more powerful than the frog, the slug is more powerful than the snake, and the frog is more powerful than the slug, (like the "paper, rock, scissors" sort of situation.)

If we are to take this fact in an emotional angle and draw parallels, this becomes very interesting.
a. Snake more powerful than frog - Sasuke still has a powerful hold over Naruto's feelings. Naruto cannot seem to let him go, despite everyone and all the 'bad' things that Sasuke had done.
b. Slug more powerful than snake - Sakura has opened her eyes concerning Sasuke, and is going in the direction of releasing herself from his hold, even as go far as setting out to kill him.
c. Frog more powerful than slug - now, this is what we want, for Naruto to sweep Sakura's off her feet. That's another of the numerous reasons why NS will happen.

Just a crazy theory of mine

Also, from the Japanese story it's based off of, Jiraiya and Tsunade banded together to defeat Orochimaru. They use their frog magic and snake magic to overcome the snake magic! So your observations of the manga are very much supported by the old tale behind it!

I tend to wonder if it had been Sakura who jumped in to take on Pain instead of Hinata, would we still disagree with the actions? Assuming Naruto still yelled for her to get out. Yes, Hinata confessing was selfish on her part, she admitted it and it's true, but I don't really think her actions themselves were entirely negative. Sure she didn't stand a chance, but it's not like we condemn Sakura for jumping towards Kyuubi-fied Naruto earlier either.

And yes, Sakura was doing things for the right reasons, but I don't really agree it was entirely selfless either. She had just been dealt a huge amount of guilt by Sai, and even though she shouldn't have felt entirely at fault, it seems obvious that it was that guilt that caused some of her actions. If that was the case and she was acting, in some small way, out of guilt, it can't be said it was entirely selfless.

I still feel, at this point, Kishi intends Naruto to have made the only selfless love act in the story. I mean, the hero is just supposed to look better, usually, so it shouldn't be that surprising. Course by the end he should be getting an equally selfless love act from Sakura <3

I don't think Sakura was thinking of feelings of love when she said 'I love you' at the start. I think she was thinking about what her plan was and to sound convincing and to not lose focus on why she was there. It's weird that we don't even hear the start of the conversation, but instead Kishi sends us in as Sakura is repeating the line. Strange right? And then we get that long drawn out page of Naruto's expression changing from happy to disbelief... The part where she was truly showing her feelings was later, when she is talking about what he means to her. That I believe was truthful. I just don't know if she realizes how truthful those feelings are, and how important they are. I think she is still too caught up in her angst over Sasuke that she just can't really see them yet.

Is this really the confession we desire to see as the end all to the relationship problems? Is this how we want NS to start, by surrounding some truth with some lies? For me, that is not acceptable, and that's why this botched confession means very little to me. As much as NS fans like to complain about NH, at least Hinata was being 100% truthful when she confessed. I would like the true NS confession to be the same. 100% truthful, 100% ready.

Miss Soupy, your posts have so far been the best I've seen recently. I applaud you.

All of those above is exactly the problem I have for NS.

Japanese culture, as far as I know, has a very vast range of culture, am I right? Like in ancient greek mythology for example, cats were worshiped / seen as bad luck, depending on the culture I suppose, and people were buried wrapped in special material to preserve their spirits, (i.e: mummies.) (Or something like that, I learned this like 4 years ago. My memory is all blurry.)

Anyway. I know the Japanese culture (from movies I've seen/books I've read/Games i've played.) has similar ancient things like this involving animals, right? Snakes/Frogs/Slugs etc,. all types. That's why this post:

If she didn't have feelings for Naruto then wouldn't the confession be a mistake? She said she has caused the most pain to Naruto. If her feelings are false then wouldn't she'll be hurting Naruto more? That would make Sakura an ultra-b!tch hypocrite. Therefore unless she is an ultra-b!tch hypocrite, it is confirmed that Sakura really loves Naruto romantically.

I don't think it would make her a hypocrite really. It depends on what she considers her worst mistakes when it comes to Naruto. You interpret her worst mistake as not loving him when he loved her? Well, I actually thought what she considered her worst mistake to be burdening Naruto. I think there was a lot of weight put on the part where Sai says that Sasuke hurts Naruto, but that she also hurts him. I think that came as such a horrible thought to her, because the one thing Sakura has consistently wanted when it comes to her teammates, is that she would not burden them. "I don't want to look at their backs.", "We'll get back Sasuke-kun, together", "I'll bring back Sasuke-kun for you!". See, she doesn't want to be a burden more than anything else. Thus, her biggest mistake when it comes to Naruto is still relying on him. He was beat up for not only Sasuke, but for her sake as well. So when it came to tell Naruto what the rookies voted, she knew that Naruto would act out against it. For her, it would be a mistake to just let Naruto handle it, because that is what he would want to do if he was told. So she lied to him so that he would hopefully not be involved at all. Then she could carry that burden without Naruto knowing and she would have stopped making 'mistakes'.

I'm saying, given the alternative (putting Naruto in danger), she would rather him hate her than see him hurt/killed by Sasuke or be further burdened because of her. Sai explained it just like that.

Well I think there is SOME truth to her confession but that doesn't necessarily meant he really accepted it, nor that it is the only confession that will pop up, right miss soupy? yeah It's true Sakura's confession might have been a lie to an extent but that's why there would be reason for another one to clear everything up. If that confession wasn't at the the right time then all Kishimoto has to do is make a more appropriate one for the perfect moment. remember we're not basing our ENTIRE argument on just the confession, there's plenty of hints her feelings for Naruto are genuine, it was only that it was the first time she said that to Naruto. Truth or not it was still a pleasant surprise, despite the sour conclusion, for me at least.

i kinda agree with miss soupy.

i never thought the mistake was not loving naruto. it just doesnt make any sense. it sounds worse and forced if she wants to change that cause of what sai said.

she didnt want to be a burdern so lifting the POAL from naruto was what she was aiming to do. and it backfired nonetheless. but she still had the plan to kill sasuke to continue the plan if naruto didnt believe her.

im not happy with the confession, and would love to see naruto confessing next. cause we know sakura loves them, but which one is she In love with by the end?

oh and to add to the confession. i think at one point sakura was getting into the moment of what she was saying, especially the parts about naruto, which could have been truth. but i still want a better confession XD AND NOT BY SAKURA >:U NARUTO BETTER STEP UP.

Y'know what. I don't really care if the confession was partly true, fully true, or if Sakura meant god knows what by her mistakes, as long as NS happens, i'm fine and dandy. And by the manga, it seems like it's going in the direction of NS.
