On a sidenote I like the attitude of this chapter and hopefully whole fic...
It isn't usual to see in fanfics (not even talking about the manga) where the athmosphere is more like from a history lesson... (didn't get it like I would like to say it but anyway...)

I disagree I really dont like the newest chapter. its honestly completely and totaly out of character for the characters and the naruto verse itself. the actions which I wont describe here are totaly out of character for a shonen storyline. Naruto is a completely ooc chickenkitten, and Shino is a fing robot.

Im very dissapointed with the chapter and the author in this and while I may check in ont he story periodically to see if he corrects the egregious mistake in this chapter Im not optomistic.

I see your point catsi, but for me it really is refreshing. It just sometimes tires me to read in manga and ff battles are portrayed much more basic samurai fashion.

honestly he could have handled that chapter completely differently and achieved the same effect. the way he did it ended up making Anko look like a homicidal murderer and shino look like a sociopathic robot. Not to mention that Naruto was wholy out of character and Sakura would more than likely quit at that point rather then continue with such a carrerr choice. plus he was totaly wrong about Ninja and orders they dont act that way in the naruto verse especially in konoha.

I don't think this fic has been mentioned, but A Voice in the Wind has been updated with Chapter 3. It's by tricksie. It's an AU that doesn't have much Naruto in it yet, but is interesting.

Yeah 100% with Catsi on this one, this update made me feel sick, went against the entire foundation Naruto was built on, Naruto is meant to be the child of Prophesy, who unites the ninja nations, five chapters in and he's being made into a cold blooded killer, who's being taught to be a Danzo's Root Ninja instead of one of the Third Hokages'. How exactly is he meant to change the world if he is nothing more than a textbook killer. (I personally beleive ifcanon Naruto faced the same choice he'd quit.)

I'll probably like Catsi check in every so often to see if it imporves. but as it is it's not a fic i'd recommend to anyone who is looking for something different yet keeps everyone is still in-charactor.

So... here's the thing, Katsuro is in fact Naruto. I've put in some markers for his identity that correspond to the manga. In the first chapter, I had a scene of him plucking a leaf off the tree, then tearing the leaf in two before he heads to ambush her. Chapter two was more about setting the stage, bringing in Itachi to the picture, and letting Sakura (and the reader) get a clearer picture of where she is. Chapter 3 ends down, but in it Katsuro identifies something in her that he has in himself, just like in the beginning of the manga, and he chooses her over his group. Sakura also has to be separated from her group in order to turn to him for a bond. So they'll bond more in the chapters to come.

It's not so much of a secret, but I don't want to bang anyone over the head with it. I think I might put a little page up at deviant with some of my notes for each chapter. I've been trying to build in clues and character nuances, layering it so that 15 chapters from now a little funny thing a character does will be revealed as having a more sinister or more positive spin. I was going to wait till later to put something up, but a few people have asked so I might put something up sooner.

Also, I'm trying to post every week, shooting for Friday. Basically it's a slow burn Naru/Saku love story.

I believe its because of that character portrait that he envisions and gives the Naruto from his stories along with the story plot it's what draws the readers and addicts them to his stories, you should all know that all of his stories have LOTS and LOTS of reviews over 800+ in every single story and just like I have mentioned before he is one of the best fan fiction authors out there. There are dozens of his stories where Naruto is OC and becomes stronger and smarter than in canon manga, here's an example of some of his stories (besides that all of them are Naru/Hina stories).

-The paths we choose: complete OC Naruto in this story he becomes evil and the leader of the hidden sound village I won't say no more.

-The true Monster crossover with Rosario Vampire: I won't spoil the story but don't expect a happy ending (at least to the people of Konoha)

That story kind of.... I don't know it's just starting to suck. For me it started with chap. 3, when instead of Kakashi he chose Anko as Naruto's sensei. I'm rather pissed at the amount of reviews, because my story only has 31 hits and no reviews. I just don't feel like continuing it and challenge anyone to do a better job.

I dunno, while I do agree that it was sickening, this IS a fanfiction. The prophecy might not even be a part of this fic. The way I see it, Anko was preparing them for the harsh reality that Ninja are assassins. Though really, Shino, still a teenager and not even flinching? It's a bit unreal really....

That explains why Sakura acts like a complete Naruto fangirl- calling him Naruto kun, etc... That's one of my annoyances about Sakura's characterization in some narusaku fanfics- the only thing worse is all the bashing fics where she's a shrew, using Naruto for sex, and is still a rabid Sasuke fangirl.

Once the writer had Sakura acting like a complete Naruto fangirl he lost my interest. Becoming friends, then Naruto's girlfriend in the Academy would have drawn out the personality we see in Sakura in part 2 much earlier, not enlarged her fangirling persona- just transferred to Naruto.

This is where that whole "To each their own" saying comes in. I'm reading Flashing Dagger as well, and I'm enjoying it greatly. I think you just need to like dark tones and not care much about OOC moments. Fanfiction that follows canon blindly is somewhat boring, after all.

Christ, I HATE and LOATHE that kind of fics. IMO, the people writes that kind of stories claims liking Naruto, but they don't really do, because then they wouldn't change his basic personality traits. If they liked Naruto, they wouldn't make him OOC.

The amusing part is those authors usually hate Konoha for mistreating him, when they are utterly disrespecting him.

That is because I don't care how many reviews one story got: if I think it is unreadable garbage, it is unreadable garbage.

And here you are summarizing another of my pet peeves: Sakura-haters writers usually depict Sakura like an evil, overviolent harlot, and when they are trying being more sympathetic, they turn her into an obsessed fangirl.

Not to me. If something greatly departs of the canon, often I can't enjoy it. There are some exceptions (Slayers: Trilogy, Pokemon Master...) but they are fewer. I can occasionally enjoy a dark fic, but usually I don't read it again. And I absolutely can't stand OOC-ness.

its not the following of canon thats at issue with the story.

its the utter and complete dismemberment of the characters and the basic tenants of the story that are.

I have no problem with a small change like making Anko narutos sensei, or giving him a nasty cool jutsu, or making Sakura his girlfriend early as all of these can be taken in context of the story.

what i have an issue with is when the characters are utter and complete caricatures of themselves, Naruto is his usual loud self right up until anko threatens his ninja career then he slaughters a helpless animal like it was nothing.

thats just plain BS. Naruto is the same character who told off Ibiki the nasty scary torturer that it didnt matter if he was a genin for life, hed still be hokage. Hes the same guy who fresh out of the academy called one of the 7 swordsmen of the mist an eyebrowless freak and charged him, and who took on a jonin one on one when his teamates hid. he would have told Anko where she could stuff her kunai and her orders and protected the bunnies without a hesitation.

And thats just Naruto's character being screwed up. Not to even mention Anko, Shino and Sakura's.

the entire scene renders the speech from the sandaime in earlier chapters compeltely moot.

and it also completely destroys the themes and tone of the Naruto world. the themes and tone of Naruto is about friendship and bonds. its about being strong by protecting your preciuous people. its about breaking the chains of hate and cold bloodedness that drive the warfare of the shinobi world.

the very thing that Anko quite literally shoved in their faces. I wasnt sickened by the death, I expected much the same argument. But i was sickend to the point of utter revulsion for the better part of the day by how easilly naruto and company caved to her orders it was physically sickening to me and that is trully saying something.

I have no problem letting people read this fiction on their own and making up their own minds. But I will not reccomend it to anyone because of its glaringly bad characterizations, and blatant bastardization of the Naruto world in which the author is clearly basing it in.

Im hopeful the author well rewrite that chapter or at least that scene to a more appropriate one befitting the characters and the rich world they live in. but untill he does this story remains to me as a warning of what not to do in Naruto fan fiction.
