Up: 9/10

Another good Disney/Pixar movie. The highlights are Dug and Kevin (why did that boy named the bird a boy's name?), they cracked me up.

2012 (2009): 0/10
A humongous kitten bomb about the biggest piece of fiction in Earth's history, if you like this movie you are a tool but if you believe in this myth in the words of Reginal:

Warning: If you are offended by the F word do not read. --Click here to view--

Disney's A Christmas Carol (2009): 9/10
I wasn't expecting much out of this movie but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is, especially in 3D. Although....some characters look really weird in Performance Capture like Gary Oldman's Bob Cratchit he looks like a freaking Hobbit.

Twatlight Twilight New Moon (2009): 0/10
Twilight sucks, end of story. Don't agree with me? I don't care.

Star Trek-10/10- A thought this was a great movie, although I was down that Shatner wasn't in it but I really like the new cast and work done by J.J. Abrams.

Precious - 9/10

First off this movie is down right DEPRESSING. I felt like I was in a funeral session with just how morbid the theater felt and the constant noise of sniffles, gasps, and tears. It holds no bars with just how jarring and shocking it is with covering numerous subjects such as: obesity, illiteracy, rape, incest, teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, child abuse, and life in an improvised 'family'. The only bright spots are the occasional class room humor, and when Precious escapes into one of her fantasies (ablite it is when she is getting raped by her father...) which are glamorous yet hold a morbid sense of humor. Other than that though it is very very dark.

I came in with high expectations after seeing the near universal critical acclaim it had received along with the general hype for a small time movie and in the end was left completely amazed by how right it was. The acting in this movie was purely fantastic. Who would have thought a comedian such as Mo'Nique could play such a vile and disdainful person who elicites cruelty and resentment towards her daughter? Her tone, movement, and facial features were all done so perfectly as she articulated such an unusual character for what she is typically portrayed as and easily deserves an Oscar nomination for this performance. The setting was done great to simulate the gritty and bleak representation of people who live in poverty and fit in well with the theme of the movie that it quite easily entrances the viewer and gives them a first hand guide at such a world that many would never have dreamed of experiencing.

Watching Precious endure such tragic and heart wrenching hardships, yet continuing to carry on and live for herself as well as her son (who she cares for even though he is the result of her father's rape) without breaking down like many others would in her situation really gets the viewer to sympathize for her and hope she can find eventual security in the terms of someone coming along to help her (such as the social worker, nurse, and her teacher). But it is HER who is the one who that realizes that only she can fix her own problems. This is the main focal point of the movie as Precious tries to defeat her own self doubt that she is a useless and pathetic human being that her mother constantly berates into her head, and trying to fight and carry on with her life no matter how much bad development and constant back tracking life brings her. Her resolve is strong and firm and she does her best to succeed no matter how daunting the future looks. The audience is held on a tight lease as they are lead to believe that she finally finds a way to become happy only to see a few minutes later it was all in vain and Precious moves two steps back. It's not an easy view but I'd use the phrase "hardcore is beautiful" when describing how Precious faces her problems head on without looking back and towards the future.

The movie pretty much allows the viewer to step into the shoes of Precious without having to actually deal with the suffering she has to succumb to. You are put in place of an obese black teenager who is hated by her mother, illiterate, sexually abused by her father, and living what should really be all a nightmare. You are mostly graced with her stagnant nonchalant expression as she deals with all the troubles in her life, but deep down within her you can see a glimpses of a woman who wants to do so much more with her life, but the opportunities are forbid. The movie's theme is self-determination vs. the ugly side of humanity; the way we treat each other and the respect for another person's life is taken for granted. We can take a lesson from this movie and the bravery that Precious showed in her predicament with the motivation to find happiness despite the tumultuous hardships she faced. Even if the overall tone is doleful the small numbered acts of accomplishment and progress in Precious help the audience achieve glimpses and comfort that not all is lost. If you are strong enough no matter how terrible the situation is, as a human being you can overcome if you have the right desire and motivation.

Did I cry during the movie? As much as my lady friend sitting next to me would like to attest that I did, I was as firm as a rock. But in fairness I did feel as if both my eyes were doused in pepper spray with how badly they stung.

Bank Job: 8/10

In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Story: 8.5/10

At first, I thought this movie would bore me to death because it was over a 2 hour movie. But it was very exciting, yet some of the parts was so predictable. And the ending was just a lackluster (did he went back as a life of the farmer while protecting the kingdom?)

Bangkok Dangerous: 9/10

This was actually an updated remake of the 1999 version. Nicolas Cage was awesome in the movie as the badass, don't take a s*** assassin. It was very heartwarming though when he started to open up to other people around him.

I see that reviews for this are all over the map and I can understand why. It's a movie that delivers exactly what it promises - awesome special effects and massive destruction, unfettered by plot, character development, logic or the laws of physics. Since I went into the movie expecting that, it was an enjoyable flick - sometimes unintentionally so. However, I have difficulty rating it as being a good movie so I'm splitting the difference.

A very common movie people need to see and watch about the dangers of the Internet. There are crazy people out there and people need to be very careful when posting their information. You see why FBI agents are around in the web tracking down these bad guys.

Have two reviews and let's start with the one I just saw in theatres:

Disney's The Princess and the Frog: 10/10

After years of just not so great movies, last animated move was Home on the Range, and the joint forces of Pixar ruling the 3D movies like Cars and The Incredibles becoming hits, I'm glad Disney decided to go back to making animated movies, but with something that finally shock the crowd: meet Princess Tiana! Now before we get to the movie, let's go back to the day when Disney was still experimenting ethnicity and stereotypes breakthrough in their movies. Yeah, we can see that this another Princess movie, but Tiana isn't an ordinary princess... hell she isn't one until the end. She's African-American, living in our country in the good ol' USA in New Orleans, Louisana in around the 1920's with a headstrong, outspoken personality and dreams of opening a restaurant and a princess wasn't a dream she had in mind. But I'm getting off the topic a bit, I was supposed to talk about the past Disney films...

Back then, we had alot of Disney movies, many were hits, some not so, those included had featured heroines with royality and/or based on historical/fairy tale reference. During the late 80s early 90s we had Princesses that are not so ordinary, Ariel from The Little Mermaid with not only a voice of an angel but also a redhead mermaid; Belle from Beauty and the Beast, headstrong, yet has a passion for reading and she's French; Jasmine from Aladdin a very spunky girl and one of the first ethnic Princesses catering towards the Middle East (and also my favorite heroine from Disney). And then we had heroines that are not Princesses, Pocahontas, she's Native American; Megara, from Hercules, who's Greek; Mulan, for the Chinese. Not once since then (and do not point out the girl -forgot her name- from Atlantis, I think she doesn't count) we had an African-American/Black theme in Disney at all, and no The Lion King doesn't count either. While it does have alot of African culture and we did had female characters that became royalty (Sarabi, Nala, Kiara), it was fantasy film based on animals.

And now the time had come when we were introduced to Tiana in the previews last year. As of now, she's becoming a hit wonder to little girls everywhere right before the movie even came out, especially in the African-American communities. The PatF merchandise is flying off the shelves as we speak. But anyway back to the movie...

Now but there's another addition to the movie, let's talk about Prince Naveen, a prince with a different personality than any other in the past. Oh he's got something of an accent, (the actor is Brazilian!! omfg.gif ) Somehow, Disney added some more flavor into the gumbo, if you getting what I'm saying! wink.gif The movie isn't a real fairy tale like we had seen with Cinderella and Snow White. Hard work and dedication to your dreams (and its original "keeping your promise" moral which I almost forgot to add) is actually the main theme of the story and Tiana showed it how it is done in the movie, not to mention playing hard to get with Naveen. wink.gif Speaking of adding flavor, Disney had kept up the traditions of New Orleans (Mardi Gras, Jazz music, gumbo, voodoo, and Cajun Accents) to the notch that you won't see any stereotypes.

A couple of great sidekicks: Louis the Aligator will crack you up & Ray the Firefly will warm your heart with his good self but it won't last long before the end... The villian, Dr. Facilier, while creepy, is a very complex villian and he does conjour scary shadows... Mama Odie will make you laugh as well (But she reminded me as Grandmother Willow from Pocohantas)

Whew, that's alot I had to say, but even though she followed the same route Belle went in BatB (ordinary girl later married a Prince and become royalty), Tiana is a princess that brought Disney animation with great comeback. Welcome to our hearts, Tiana! (let's just hope you'll stay popular without any sequels...)

Now for the other one:

Nothing Like the Holidays: 6/10

This one, wasn't that enjoyable like the other Christmas movies such as This Christmas. But I know Puerto Rican families always stick together like glue, especially during Holidays. And always party, too.

It was a great movie, with some funny antics, and also with drama. The beginning was a bit slow, but overall, excellent movie!
"I heart donuts" says: Doughnuts can be radio-active, just look at Homer Simpson. He eats donuts even though he works in a Nuclear Power Plant.
"Homer" says: So??? I'm still alive...
"I heart donuts" says: But you're a cartoon
"Homer" says: Your point is...
"I heart donuts" says: -.-

The storytelling is great and the visuals are breathtaking but the hokey acting and sometimes awful dialogue hurt this movie. Also it's not necessary to see it in 3-D (even though that's how I saw it) cuz the 3-D is just....there.

Avatar the movie- 7/10 Good movie, visually stunning. Plot isn't original though.

The best way to sum up this movie. --Click here to view--
Dances with Wolves meets Ferngully meets Starship Troopers. lol

Blood : The Last Vampire- 8/10 (live action) Really well done and visually decent. The demons looked a little goofy, but the awesome blood splatter was always nice. Also brings in an interesting plot point for Saya.
