Blowing off steam. I'll never understand how guys always comment on sexism while completely disregarding issues that still exist.   I will seriously never understand this.  But I don't want to be bothered with arguing.

Ugh.... I really hate it when we get into the sexism debate in mangas. But I feel like I should put my two cents in.
 
Ok, first off, fanservice. People say fanservice is bad, but if you actually do develop the characters, that should be okay, right? WRONG!! people in nearly all manga/anime circles these days that a character is terrible if she has a lot of fanservice going on for her, as they oh-so-conveniently forget her character development throughout the series. That is one point I hate most in the sexism debate: when people bring up the fanservice but conveniently forget the character developments. Accentuating the Negative much?
 
Second, about the men needing to look stronger than the females, that used to be the case in the past, but now, not so much. Even if the female characters can't fight or not even as strong, they tend to be emotionally stronger than the males. Case in point: Winry comes off as emotionally stronger than Ed a lot of times throughout FMA. I am honestly perfectly fine with this.
 
I understand the demand of needing to show off the girls in fights. If she is capable of fighting in some manner, then you would expect her to pull her own weight in the series too. It's really not about the gender, but rather how each character has to pull their own weight. If you can't do that, then that was the point of having created the character?. Winry is a support character, but she pulls her own weight extremely well so it's key for the author how to make use of each character to their fullest potential. Basically, a good author knows how to make each character shine in their own ways.

I haven't picked up the series since around ch. 50, but about the MIkasa hate, I can only say one thing: the Rabid Yaoi Fangirls. Remember that Eren is most frequently paired up with Levi in Yaoi doujins. Do the math.

 

Phew. Really sorry for this stupid rant. Had to get it off my chest somehow

 

But back on topic: the next chapter is definitely make or break for her character and I really do hope Horikoshi does her justice. Also, Tokoyami vs Momo was pretty interesting from the brief explanation alone. Looks like Momo is your standard spellcaster character, in RPG terms.Slow, but has wide range of attacks. 

 

@Phantom: I actually ship them both too. She's got a bit of snark to balance out Iida's over-seriousness. It definitely would make for a fun interaction between them both.

lord ochako seriously!!! U know she is a girl dont ya!!? And besides i have a hunch that she will loose and final fight should be inturupted by villians. There are enough evedience and proofs cring out loud that the final fight will be in between deku and todoroki.

Ah well If Ochako loses then We may see a sweet and cute moment between her and Izuku at least. But that doesn't mean that I want her to lose. It's just that speaking from my stand point I never once recalled a female winning any tournament in a shonen series. I wish that would change for once really. Or when they do it is undermined later on cause a better male player didn't enter or it doesn't mean anything later on.  I'm just sick of seeing Female characters losing and the writer excuses it that the female is strong when clearly they don't put any effort to make us realize why. It's just a hand wave that they can't or won't write a strong female casuse of a skewered view on women.

The next battle isn't about win or lose. It's about the performance. It's like wrestling. One guy can still lose the match but if that person showed off greatly, he will get cheered as to say his loss meant more than winning. That's what I'm looking forward to it.

Fair point. As long As Ochako puts up a good fight, I'll be satisfied. But I'm just against the inequality presented almost all the time in comics or media in general. Women are supposed to be strong to but the males are the stars of the show so they must be the ones dominating the scene and all that. If that is supposed to be the case why not show that women are capable of equally great things?

Eh, sometimes it's easy to mistake being nice to someone means you're in love with them. For the record I know Ochako hasn't really hinted to liking Izuku just yet besides just small things like calling him Deku affectionately, or forming a team with him even though she has every right to see him as competition at that point, and she even got a little jealous too when Izuku complimented Hatsune. I acknowledge she most likely sees Izuku as a friend, but If a couple were to be formed It's most likely them I can say, cause t It seems Horikoshi is on board for it as well.
