We throw that statement a lot when it comes to the movie, don't we?
And why do we keep at it? Because it's totally true.
Exactly! I keep asking myself this... ever since I saw your post and the others here. How can this be this anything but awkward? I tried to view this outside the pairings... and the same question still pops into my head.
How could he explain to the new-comers to the story that Naruto is in fact with other girl, not the one he was in this movie. Because the normal and logical question would be: then why not have her with him?
If not in the normal universe from the movie, why not in the AU where they fight together and everything? How can Kishi explain the fact that in cannon, Naruto is with the girl that barely appears and from which he runs away or in real is quite not interested at all.
How?
I've tried to literally try to excuse him on every side, but it's just...impossible.
