The Viz translation (if true... is it a joke?) kinda makes it's out to be kinda worst. Naruto only thinks Obito is awesome cause he once wanted to be Hokage himself?
I honestly don't care either way about this because Kishi loves making things as unrealistic as they come for villains having a change of heart. I'm all for wearing Rose Colored glasses, but sometimes it's just not worth it as some people are just inherently evil. Words won't fix everything...yadda yadda.
Maybe it's because people want this manga (which is a fiction story mind you) to show some realism behind it's acts is why frustration seems high lately. IDK just an assumption. Anyway manga/comic books should be the last place you turn to for a source of realism, aren't this suppose to take you away from your boring life? I hope anyone pissed at Naruto for Obito/Sasuke is pissed at DBZ considering a majority of it's heroes were once evil be it criminals/villains or something state of mind (I can't quite remember the phrase)
The truth is is that noone is born evil or good. It is all in our upbringing. The only thing we are born with is selfishness. It is not until we grow up do we become selfless. I don't even think there is such a thing as being "inherently evil" otherwise who would you consider inherently good?
There is no justification for any of it. Obito wasn't inherently evil, neither was Sasuke, and neither was Madara. They all basically became a product of their environment with each changing due to a traumatic event. What people keep arguing is not "justification," but rather what they deem is "acceptable" and the truth is there is no acceptable reason for being evil. There is no acceptable reason for being a jerk or murderer. There isn't even an acceptable reason for why we are good either. We just have reasons.
Obito's reasons are no more or less "justifiable" than Sasuke's or Madara's. Some may accept ones reasons over another, but that is just an opinion and not necessary a factual reason. A murderer doesn't get let go because "well, he had a horrible childhood so we have to forgive him." This is where some make the mistake with what I said. People confuse my words for justifying when in reality I am am just giving the realist answers.
You also have the views of people who believe that doing evil things for the greater good is justifiable. They don't deny that what they do is wrong, but rather they see it as no other way. This is what Danzo was. He believed he was the man to do the dirty work that not a lot of people would do and it helped save people's lives. Like the Uchiha Massacre where we found out that the Uchiha were staging a rebellion that could have caused a war. I am not saying this excuses him, I am just saying I understand his logic and it is natural to think that way.
Soldiers as well fight daily on the lines killing each other over reaons both stupid and righteous: Religion, land, money, knowledge, and so many other things. Wars started over the dumbest things and many villains in comic books and manga play with these ideas.
Look at what Joker says in the Killing Joke.
Is the Joker right? In some cases he is. He might even be the proof of concept depending on the story. V in V for Vendetta also promoted something similar with how he says that violence can be used for good and used to punish the guilty. Is he right? Well, that depends. Many people look down on vigilantism. The best way I view it is like this: You can put a fence in your yard to seperate into two halves parallel to eachother, but in truth it is still the same yard and it is still the same land. Just because you add something doesn't mean you changed it. Good and Evil is only really defined by the perspective of the person and what they deem is good and evil.
