I still feel that India isn't a good place to release a movie like Last! The calculation sure is right! But that is with respect to the total population. The only chance they have here is in big cities like Bombay, Banglore, Delhi and Calcutta. Even here...they can get 1 screen at the most since others are taken by Hollywood and Bollywood movies. So that 0.1% reduces further. You release it in selected areas, that too you get less screens and upon that...the amount of people watching it is even lesser than 0.1% of the total population. Out of those, the people who are ready to watch the movie paying that insane price for a ticket are very very less. Normal people who don't know Naruto won't even buy the tickets when they hear about the price. They won't recover their expenses over here.
An individual screening in each of those cities or just one premiere altogether? With the exception of Kolkata, all of the referenced cities have an inner-city population equaling at least double the entire population of New Zealand. One premiere in a densely populated megalopolis versus several smaller cities dispersed throughout a country with a bare-bones market. And how many cities in NZ do you expect to hold a premiere? Besides Auckland, maybe one theatre in Christchurch and Wellington each, but I doubt Pierrot is investing much time or resources into NZ.
If "The Last" were to garner a minuscule portion of the market like 0.05% in Kolkata, that's still 2243 viewers providing ¥3.16-3.95 million. Although, I expect Mumbai to be the recipient since it is the most populous city in India. With a population of 18.4 million, a gathering of 0.05% is 9200 people, or ¥12.9-16.2 million. A greater turnout than what will probably be earned in New Zealand.

No I am talking about a premier. There are fans in Delhi, Mumbai and Banglore. 98% of the fans are for the story and the others....well shipping. But why would they spend a hefty price for something like this if they have other movie options available? Bollywood also comes into picture, dude. And the days are greener for them right now. Not to mention there are other great Hollywood movies premiering as well!

Well, I am from Mumbai. I do understand what you want to say. But my point is....why would the people buy a ticket priced at..say Rs.1000 when the movie reviews are not even that great and they have plenty of other options available. They can watch 4 good Hollywood/Bollywood movies with that price. But yeah....if you are comparing NZ and India, India gives them a better income than New Zealand.
I don't think watching a Japanese cartoon film would cost as much as going to an upmarket theatre for the grand premiere of Haider or PK. The availability, subject understanding, and monetary value of those films are much greater compared to "The Last".
Ticket values might be expensive, but as you said, there's enough people with the fervency and desire to see this film to give it a solidly marketable stance in India. And just like with any major city, I would expect the cost of a movie ticket to be quite high. Anyone who is going to watch it probably has the Internet available to give them a synopsis of the subject matter so they can come to their own conclusions on whether they prefer it or not.
