Yes! I considered this, too. It would fall in line with how Sakura feels she's undeserving of Naruto's love ("the fool's in love with someone like me"), and maybe she feels someone like Hinata could make Naruto happy, unlike herself who has "made Naruto suffer the most," (her words). It would be very bittersweet. I wouldn't mind something like that. 
 
(then at the end of the movie, after hinata's found her closure with naruto, he'll run off to sakura and, thinking he likes hinata now, says she's happy for them *cue fake smile* but naruto will hug her (or maybe give her a kiss on the forehead? yes i'm still hoping for this) and tell her that he loves her, and only her; that's the way it's always been and that's how it's going to stay)

And.....and maybe this is that Naruto and Hinata scene which was released a few days ago wherein they were in a romantic place, all alone and both looked unhappy? Maybe....Naruto rejected her and that's why she was unhappy and Naruto because he hurt Hinata? o_O This is very well possible, right? o_O

I didn't really like Shion, because she kept screaming about how Sakura should work on looking more womanly and the whole time I was thinking " B**ch, she's trying to save your @ss, STFU." I don't like it when people are pompous, because of their positions.( especially when their being rude to Sakura.)

Naruto never confessed to Sakura, then she got tired of waiting and married Kakashi, she's now the Hokage wife as she was destined to. Meanwhile Naruto will be trying to rebound with Hinata but she'll eventually dump his ass for Torine...

 

Then Gaara will come and console Naruto with tender h***sexual love. Also notice that Gaara's hair is red like Kushina, meaning that GaaraNaru is the real KushiMina.

Is it too far-fetched though? I mean they haven't shown enough of Sakura, they seem to be hiding her even though she's supposedly a main character in the movie.

I don't so much about the americans and Japanesse. But i think characters who is shy, kind, insecure and has big breast is quite popular in USA and Japan, especielly with boys.
Because they are often described as they will always support you, will never go against you and will stand behind you. Something like antifeminisn.
You can often see characters as Hinata in hentai and Shojo mangas. I think this kind of character's has a name, like Sakura who belongs to the catagory Tsunadere. So it's not just because Hinata loves Naruto that makes her popular, it's mostly because she is the kind of anime character who is often popular.

 

This is what I tell my half brother and his little NH fanboy club of friends who love to pick "fights" with me. Hinata is what they want in woman, plain and simple. I'm not saying that all NH fans that are guys are like this but the ones I've come across are. They also have a burning hatred for Sakura too, like if she actually did something towards them, it's laughable at times. I really haven't interacted with too many  female Hinata fans, or even NH fans. Which ones I have seen support NH  because it's cute, which is fine, but there's a big difference between shipping a pairing for fun compared to shipping it because its more that apparent that it will be canon.

That's my problem as well   I might not feel interested depending on how the manga ends...

Great theory, very plausible. It would not only serve in helping hinata move on but also resolve naruto and sakuras issues/worries.
