Yeah I noticed that. It seems like the stretched Naruto and shrunk Hinata. I swear, even the height difference reinforces the passive, girl-in-distress thing. Blech.

Something to take into consideration, not only from Junko's interview, is that "love" doesn't translate over that accurately from Japanese unless you put it in the proper context... Koi and ai are both translated as "love" but are different concepts, and much of the "I love you" we see in anime (suki) would be more accurately translated as "I like like you."  (I think the closest English gets to that is "smitten".) 

 

Ramen can correct me on this, but....;the love that Hinata has always expressed is closer to koi I think.  The selfish blind love.  Whereas the deeper and more general love ai is what Naruto and Sakura have shown each other over the series.  Always giving, always generous, always putting others before themselves.  

 

Quite tragic that English with its million words lacks the nuanced vocabulary for that emotion.

I read Hegel during my first year of university but seriously don't remember. That time I read a lot of philosophy books so I don't know who is who and I stopped because somehow I got seriously depressed and lost the will to do anything else.

At first I didn't really wanted her to die because she didn't deserve it since she was irrelevant to the story but after seeing so much crap I really wish that she would have died.

 

Neji wasn't my favorite but he was at least useful to the story and he certainly didn't deserve to die for his selfsh cousin and her crappy one sided love story bleuhh

You know what I really hate about that Toneri character sketch is that they are using Naruto and Hinata behind it.

 

When has she ever been in a character sketch? It's always been Sakura with Naruto. (I know, it's cuz she's in the movie, but still.)

My thoughts exactly. Neji was a much more powerful character. And in the end could have been so much like Naruto, causing change within his family clan system rather than the whole of Konoha.

 

Hinata is just a forgetable side character. She's never risen to the challenge, has no desire to change the way her family structure is, no desire to do anything related to her clan or Konoha or anyone else outside of Naruto-kun. She's a cul-de-sac of a character — she's going nowhere. 

 

It does seem like Neji died as a segue to raise Hinata's importance level in the story. Which sucks. Because, yeah, they killed the wrong Hyuuga.

But in all honesty, do these people know how to promote? They can tease a wedding dress or a wedding ring and it'll be much more hyped than the random stuff they're putting out.

OMGOSH I was more mad about her not even giving a crap about her cousin's death then the 'NH moment' ( thanks to Naruto being really OOC mind you)

If this was the Game of Thrones, Hinata would've taken Neji's place and decide to change her clan in his stead. A character's death would have brought another one to rise. Too bad, this is Kishimoto who thinks woman are only capable of being housewives.

I absolutely HATED that part. Even before this mess happened and I couldn't stand Hinata. That one act, focusing on Naruto-kun just after the death of her cousin, made her a permanent plot device in my book.
