This is why there are so many fics that have Sakura swooning over Sasuke, hating Naruto, and Naruto being an incompetent buffoon. They haven't acted this way since they first appeared, but because of the process I described above, we're still getting fics set in the time period of the first six chapters of the manga.

That totally eliminates the point of character development. Which is just about the most important part of Naruto. Competent authors should realise that the point of Sakura being weak and Naruto being an idiot is to emphasise on the growth they have gone through (can't say that about Sasuke). Oh well, thanks for enlightening me. I now understand the reasons behind the phenomenon known as "Pointless Sakura bashing", shallow though they might be.

You can use a rehashed idea in an original way.

For example, Naruto running away/being banished from Konoha could be written well if used the proper methods.

You should sit down and write nothing but different scenarios where the end result would be the banishment of Naruto. I'm doing the same thing at the moment, and I have come up with a couple of good ideas (or at least I think they could work), but they won't work without a lot of work on building relationships and characters (I've still to let him graduate damnit..). I have a document where I write different scenarios for every big event in my main story (not my crack story, even if it's more original), and I hope that will make my story just a little bit better than it would be if I just wrote whatever I could think about and posted it. I have played with ancient profecies, betrayal, Naruto killing/hurting someone, sacrilege and just plain old kitten... I have loads of different scenarios to choose from when the time comes to use them.

Actually this is an easy way to go about this. Tsunade hasn't fought in over twenty years, so you can easily make it where a renegade ninja, like Danzou's subordinate, attacks Tsunade and subdue's her while Jiraiya is away.

They would also capture the council members to, because I really don't think they hate Naruto and the Sandaime wouldn't have kept them around if they were, nor would Koharu and Homuru allow Jiraiya to take Naruto with him if they were.

So yeah, attacking a weakened Konoha with a timeworn Hokage would've been the best time. I could also see them put a seal on Naruto's ability to mold chakra that they use on nuke-nins and what not to prevent them from using chakra, and then banish Naruto or whatever.

Something similar to this idea could work with a little polish to it.

Sorry, but I don't buy that. They wouldn't have allowed Tsunade to become Hokage if she wasn't up to the task, and we know from canon that she's still up to scratch. I wouldn't find a scenario like that plausible.
