I can't wait for this!!!! I've been a Star Wars fan for nearly all my life, ever since my dad introduced them to me when I was around 5 or 6 years old. I remember going to the theatre with my brother and dad to see Episode III when it came out ten years ago.

 

I am excited to see how JJ goes with the film, I liked what he did with Star Trek, the new ones at least, so I have high hopes for the film. I don't really like how Disney and JJ decided to pretty much cut out all the books and EU-canon that has come out since Episode VI was released but I think that was more of a money decision since it would allow them to create their own 'canon' and they wouldn't have to pay the authors who came up the EU universe ideas like the Solo children, Mara Jade and Ben, the Vong, the New Jedi Order, Thrawn Trilogy etc.

 

I do like how JJ has come out and said that he will not use as many digital effects as Lucas did in the prequel trilogy, going back to actual sets and costumes and set to give the film a sense of realism.

I'm almost the complete opposite. I'm really worried about the movies because I think JJ butchered Star Trek. I'm also concerned because some of the possible plot summaries I've seen appear to be cheap reductions of the EU they supposedly cast out when Disney took over.

I am going to review this movie so I am going to put spoilers for those who haven't seen it. Don't read the spoilers for those who haven't seen it and if you have, tell me what your reaction was.

Okay..... This movie was great!!! I mean it, it was intense, emotional and when there needed to be funny parts, it was really funny. I liked the female character Rey. She was tough badass heroine unlike some Heroine we know and hate.... Anyway, I liked the twist that the villain Kylo Ren was Han and Leia's son. I cried when he killed his father, then I cheered when Rei used the force to defeat Ben. I also loved the ending where she met Luke at the planet and she was handing him lightsaber and I liked that there was no dilaouge. It was great to see C-3PO and R2-D2 again.

I heard the chemistry is great. So, it lives up to the hype. Complete opposite reactions from episode 1 world premiere.

Saw it last night! It was awesome!!! (Even rocked Princess Leia hair all day!) Movie is great, you don't have to be a big fan of the first movie to enjoy it. Really fast paced, action packed, and definitely follows the hero's journey storytelling thing in a really satisfying way.

 

Get tickets! Go see it! I'm going to go again over the holidays - next time in 3D.

Loved it. I still need to digest it, but loved it. Definitely not without its problems, but the new cast is great.

Ok just saw it in 3D. God I hate 3D so much. But that was the only one available in English, the 2D one was dubbed in my language. And I hate dubbed movies more than I hate 3D.

I'm going to briefly talk about it. If you haven't seen it yet. Go see it now, I mean right now. It's good it's not perfect of course but it's good.

It's light years beyond the pre-sequels meaning The Phantom Menace, Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith. And in way it completely made you forget about them. Is it better than the first ones? Honestly I can't say right now.

 

Now for the spoiler part:

Spoilers be warned. Hey in case you haven't read what I said I'll say it again. Spoilers Be Warned.

First of all Luke. There's a good reason we never saw him in the trailers. And that reason is because he's just in the last minute of the movie. But even with such a short seen, it made it memorable simply because it reminded us of Old Ben Kenobi.

The only thing that was missing from that scene was him saying "I've waited a long time for you, my daughter." or the classical Star Wars "Rey, I am you're father." Yes you heard that right, daughter. It's not confirmed yet, but come on it's obvious that Rey is Luke Skywalker's daughter. Why did he abandoned her? I can't say (that is of course if it really is his daughter).

 

Loved Kylo Ren's introduction. The way he stopped that blaster shot was jaw dropping. It showed just how powerful his command of the force is. Loved the "new" Han Solo. Meaning Rey.

Speaking of Rey. Liked her character because she wasn't just a pretty face. She actually stepped up and did some ass-kicking.

Now I said she's the new Han Solo. Well that's because he dies by the hand of his own son, Ben. Also know as Kylo Ren. Yep. His son. He was trained by Luke, but turned to Dark Side. Or at least the order of Ren.

 

And this is where it kind of pissed me off. The Order of Ren is a copy (or at least it seems like one for the moment) of the Order of Revan. The Order of Revan was created by LucasArts working together with Bioware. This is what I was referring to in my post from "The Last movie" thread when I talked about how LucasArts re-wrote what Bioware and Obsidian did. And this is what kind of pissed me because it's copying someone's work and saying it's yours.

But let's wait until the next one to see if this is really true or not. It could be that I'm just over thinking it. But still his mask is almost the same, the order is named similar.

 

Enough of that. I do have to say J.J. did a great job. No CGI non-sense like Lucas did in the previous ones. Of course some CGI had to be used. But when it wasn't need, it wasn't there. Real people being there, real places. Not one small green screen room and later on add everything else.

Abrams did a fantastic job.

I love EVERY movie, yes even the prequels; and this one wasn't an exception. However, I do have a complain. Don't read it if you haven't seen the movie.

My only gripe, is not with the death of Han, but the way in which it was handled afterwards. We see Leia feel affected, like Obi-Wan when Alderaan was blown up, then she just gives Rey a hug and suddenly, we're all over it. No ceremony, no mourning, no grief. How does a man like Han Solo die with no ceremony or remembrance from the Resistance/Rebels?? This is ludicrous.This just seems like a rushed story element. Even Rey and Finn had heard of Han, despite the 30 year gap. His name is legendary and all we get is Leia's brief heartache, with no tears, and hug with Rey. Heck, other than Chewy's yell, reacting to the actual moment, he too seems cool to just let Rey hop in the Pilot's seat of the Falcon and fly off.Just disappointed

Ok, so, I really can't be the only one that was completely jarred to see that the plot of the movie is pretty much a carbon copy of episode IV? Are people really ok with such a level of unoriginality that they ignore this? This is barely a sequel. More like a remake. And what's with Rey using the force at will? Wasn't it established in the series that the force can only be used by those who go through arduous training for years? Luke didn't started a badass, he busted his ass training with Yoda, Anakin trained in the jedi order for years before reaching his prime. And now Rey comes through and she can kick ass like it's no one business? This is starting to go to the boundaries of mary sueness. I mean, yeah, great special effects, great action sequences and great atmosphere. But the borrowed storyline really turned my nose. Out of the new characters, Poe is the only character that picked my interest. Guy is charisma personifed.

Yes it is in a way. It is a copy of the first one. But I do understand them. Disney paid 4 billion dollars for LucasArts, so they couldn't really afford to screw it up and not make their money back and then some. Thus it lead to them taking the safe route.

yes it is 4life finn and rey are perfect i could just imagine kishi seeing them like narusaku and maybe regret putting nh together lol that failure of a writer will have to live with the mistakes he made but anyway i actually met one of the actors of the film last month greg grunberg my goal is to meet john and daisy and tell them how great there characters are and since john is a naruto fan if i meet him ill tell him *rey reminds me of sakura minus the pointless obsession with the popular guy*
