It was a confession with an ulterior motive. There isn't really a good one word adjective for that. People say it was fake because a confession should not be about something other than the confession. Also because while Sakura clearly loved Naruto she might not have actually thought that she did. It may have been her view as well that she was lying to him. I don't know. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter.

Yeah, considering all the development, the lie was her being done with Sasuke, not she not loving Naruto.

That is what Naruto and Sakura were arguing about. He didn't start questioning the confession until she said she was over Sasuke so Naruto the promised you made to her years ago is nullified so he doesn't have to chase after him anymore.

"Sakura's aspiration"
"Sakura's desire"
"Sakura's gamble"
"Sakura's proposition"
"Sakura's intent"
"Sakura's intendment"
"Sakura's proposal" (Although, this one would probably have people think marriage seeing as how simple minded people can be)

There are plenty...PLENTY of one word adjectives to describe to what the scene supposedly is, but this goes down to what the scene was supposed to be.

If the entire scene was meant to be a ruse for some ulterior motive to con Naruto into something then any of the words above would have sufficed, but if it was something else and it changed later down the road...then nothing makes sense anymore. The story has changed events so much that every chapter before 699 is pointless. Even all those supposed "good Hinata scenes" have become moot because "Naruto didn't know what he was doing" and "Let's make a movie of events that Kishimoto never thought of and change the dynamic entirely." (Since when did it snow in Konoha?)

I am pointing out that at the time they called it "Sakura's confession" which means that Sakura was telling a fact....well, if it was all a lie...if the whole thing was a lie...then it is NOT a confession. That is NOT what a confession is. Otherwise, I could say Hinata's confession is a lie with ulterior motives which I am pretty sure anyone here can make that claim that Hinata herself didn;t love Naruto, but had ulterior motives herself.

This is why retcons are so damaging to this series. If you change an entire concept....then you are blowing holes in the story that at the time made sense, but now have no prupose being there and this is not just in pairings either...this could be huge story plots holes like..."Wasn't the Byakugan just a Sharingan mutation?"

Why call it "Sakura's confession" when there is NOTHING she is confessing too? If it is all a lie and it is all pointless...then "confession" is completely the wrong word here, but we are looking at this from a "hindsight" point of view.  The time of the chapter release is different viewpoint altogether.

That is what Naruto and Sakura were arguing about. He didn't start questioning the confession until she said she was over Sasuke so Naruto the promised you made to her years ago is nullified so he don't have to chase after him anymore.

And this is the EXACT detail people keep missing. Naruto did not not believe in the confession itself, but the part about "I don't care about Sasuke anymore." That is when kitten got fishy and as well, naruto himself was too stupid and Sasuke-sexual to even ask the question. "Do you really love or are you just saying that to get me to stop?" If Naruto is so stupid in love, then why did he not question this? And every single time people say "He didn't believe her confession." No, he believed, he was even shocked, but....

This is why this scene is SOOOOOOOO bad. It is not even Sakura's fault either....Naruto is SO Sasuke-sexual that he is like the the equivalent to a Hinata fanboy. Say anything bad about Sasuke and Naruto throws a huge temper tantrum, but everyone wants to look at Sakura being the bad guy instead of Naruto also playing his part of "I only have eyes for Sasuke....I want that huge Uchiha D."

So is confession.

Hmm..."Sakura's moot proposal" Probably sounds accurate.

I was always in the minority that said either 1. Sasuke had to die. Or 2. Sasuke had to lose something very important for him to stay alive.

I still feel like the best outcome for this story would have been Sasuke in the end giving up his life after realizing how much he had ruined the people who actually cared about him, and how selfish he was being. If I had my way Sasuke would have died sacrificing himself to beat the Rabbit Goddess.

The other possibility, if he was to live, was that he'd have to lose something that connected him to his sins. Many people back in the day used to theorize that Sasuke would end up losing his eyes, and his power, and therefor go from being one of the strongest (if evil) people alive to relatively weak and harmless. Some predicted that he would end up becoming an advisor to Naruto when he took over the village, as a guide and constant remind about what is lost when someone becomes obsessed with revenge.

What does that have to do with what you were saying?

The confession and attempt to kill Sasuke in the first place, was for many of us a step along the way to his end.

1. Sakura ultimately rejecting her shallow girlhood fantasies about getting with the "hot guy" after it is shown that said hot guy was killing the people she cared about.

2. Sakura coming to terms emotionally with her actual feelings and what matter to her. This brought her to her act with Naruto.

3. Her attempt to kill Sasuke was genuine, not out of hatred completely but also because she needed to protect what she really loved. Not just Naruto but her village and friend as well. A rejection of childish ways.

4. After failing (as the story would have dictated), Naruto and Sakura would have to address each other's feelings more, and develop their relationship further. Even if it's now Naruto who refuses to see what Sasuke is doing and instead it is Sakura trying to open his mind to the darkness that exist in Sasuke, instead of making excuses for it or crying at the mere mention of it.

5. This relationship would develop with Sakura becoming closer to Naruto over time, and even really being someone who protects HIM. Lady GT had a couple of fake panels that really showed what this could of been at times, protecting Naruto from himself.

Now since I brought the legendary Lady GT in this, I should say she wasn't a follower of my "Sasuke should die in the end" idea.

More or less for the confession to matter it had to be a part of a growing and expanding character arc, that effected multiple characters. For whatever reason, or excuse if you prefer, that's not what happened. And instead it's now known as the fake confession. Maybe it is in canon. Who knows now? I haven't paid attention since the final chapters became canon.

I used to be okay with the "Sasuke should die in the end" idea until I realized that death is just way too easy for characters. You die you get instant redemption. Now, this would be okay under the right circumstances (I still think Obito's story is a legit. A few tweeks could have made it perfect), but too many times and it loses its impact. Sasuke should have either sacrificed an eye and not an arm or perhaps had new eye implants that were not his. Perhaps given another Uchiha's eyes that were weaker.

Agreed, or making him blind given Sasuke's obvious arrogance about his Sharingan and such, shown even as far bad as when he faced Lee and assumed he could use the Sharingan to match his speed when he assumed Lee used Ninjutsu or Genjutsu before it was revealed by Lee to be Taijutsu.

Was that actually from the manga or fake panels?

Yeah, I wanted Sasuke to die at first, but what should have happened was he becomes a rogue ninja part of Orochimaru's group and they be the main bad guys of the sequel series. Sarada would be Karin and Sasuke's daughter (Uchiha and Uzumaki) made to infiltrate Konoha, but then you could still have her attachment to Naruto happen because she's an Uzumaki and then have Sakura and Naruto's son (who could still be Boruto) go rogue and join Sasuke.

It wouldn't of been instant redemption though, that's the thing. It would of been Sasuke falling further down the path of revenge, a star burning out because it burnt to hot.

Him being blind would also have been good, especially if he was a basic prisoner who helped Naruto when Naruto became Hokage because Sasuke finally understood that Naruto was the only family he really had in the end. Making up for his sins, by having to become what he hated. A man who could only give out advice and couldn't act out his desires to do as he pleases, the hell with the consequences.

A savage beast attacking an opponent because they desire power isn't redemption. It'd be closer to Doomsday attacking Superman simply because Superman is a worthy challenge to his desire of battle.

Seeing how Kishimoto contradicted himself in a really disgusting way post ending. I see no reason why my head cannon is any less worth then his statements. At least I read the manga in a real way. Unlike how they accessed us of reading the manga in a wrong way and everything was a red hearing.

So I think Sakura did lie but she also told the truth. She did lie when she said she doesn't care about Sasuke anymore. But based on all the scenes prior to this one. She did tell the truth of loving Naruto. Just remember even as early as the bridge arc and Yamato's words.

As I said in another post on this forum Kishimoto had this stupid self in forced rules. Otherwise the whole shipping would have ended during this scene.

That was what the scene was suppose to convey. She was confessing to him to get him to stop chasing after Sasuke and to hide that they are all plotting to kill Sasuke...or at least give up on him. She does have strong genuine feelings for him; which why she is willing to plot to kill Sasuke. However, she still has unresolved feelings that prevented her from moving on and getting with Naruto. Of course those should have been resolved, but Kishi wanted to wait till the end; which by that point, the parings had changed.

ergo why I left the series. the Messages portrayed and how the ending threw EVERYTHING out the window and destroyed every good memory I of it made me just not care anymore.
