Taking a look at all 3 pairings:

 

SasuSaku

SasuSaku's entire argument rests on Sasuke harbouring deeper feelings for Sakura then he's showing in the manga. The argument is, over time, Sakura's love and devotion to him will eventually warm his heart, and he would fall in love with her. Such hints were at the beginning stages of Part 1 and has developed overtime. This is further supported by Sasuke apparently taking her confessions to heart.

 

Why I think the argument has no standing is because of Tobirama and manga evidence. When Tobirama revealed that an Uchiha's love for someone greatly exceeds that of a normal person, which can cause them to awaken a new power. Taking that into consideration, why didn't this apparent love:

• Manifest when Sakura was attacked by Gaara? If his love and care for her is so deep, why did he tell Naruto to take her and run? The argument against it being that it was still in part 1 and that wasn't planned makes no sense when shortly after that arc we found out that to awaken a new power the Uchiha's had to kill someone close to them? Saying that he spared Sakura because he couldn't bare the though of killing her is also silly because when it comes to dealing with either Sakura or Naruto, killing Sakura will be a much easier time.
• Why is it that this love and care for Sakura didn't manifest and stop Sasuke from killing her against Madara and then leaving her to die in molten volcano. Then also explain why Sasuke did not even pay attention to her once Naruto grabbed her?
• Why has Sasuke, for the most part, not thought of her as an individual, but rather as part of a team along with Kakashi and Naruto?
• If Kishimoto intended for Sasuke to eventually love Sakura, why didn't he expand on the bond with her as much as he's done with someone like Karin, who Kishimoto has shown to be closer to her than he is to Sakura? Sasuke has demonstrated a need for Karin and genuine concern for her safety more than he has for Sakura. He has also been shown to tolerate her more than Sakura (as as demonstrated in 693 with the violent genjutsu).
• If Sasuke loved her from the start/early into the manga (at around the Forest of Death arc), then when he was fighting againt the Sound ninjas, he would have said something about then making a big mistake hurting her. Instead, he was more interested in testing out his new power and go on a rampage.

When you factor in all these, then you come to the conclusion that Sasuke has no signs of romantic feelings for her as well as no desire to strengthen his bond with Sakura. You can't say we can't take Sasuke's word at face value when he himself has shown no actual, indisputable signs of harboring romantic feelings for Sakura. This isn't a complex series, so what you see is what you get, and if we see no signs of Sasuke loving Sakura romantically, then it's reasonable to assume that it won't happen.

 

On Sakura's end, Kishimoto has portrayed her feelings towards him as completely arbitrary, shallow (early on) and negative. We never get an actual reason for why Sakura loves Sasuke romantically. Just about every pairing in the manga there is a genunine reason for why one character loves the other. Kushina started to love Minato after he saved her and complimented her hair. Hinata loves Naruto because he never gives up and inspires her, so that admiration eventually turned into love. Naruto loves Sakura after finding out she seeks the same thing as him, acknowledgement. Even Karin has a reason for loving Sasuke when he saved her in the Forest of Death and smiled at her.

 

Sasuke did absolutely nothing for Sakura for her to start loving him. He is the cool-natured, talented and handsome person in their group, but that was all she had to go on and never actually tried to get to know and understand him on a personal level. This is worsened by the fact that she completely blew it in chapter 3 by berating Naruto and making a mention of him having no parents. The simple act of loving Sasuke has caused Sakura's character to regress and look pathetic. She intentionally hid her true nature in front of him in order to impress him and went as far as to change her appearance for him, which proved to be troublesome in the Forest of Death. Whenever Sasuke is involved, Sakura is reduced to being a useless character, and it took Sasuke rejecting her and leaving for her to flourish into the character she is today (before 693 of course).

 

In terms of pairing, it just doesn't work. Sasuke doesn't want her, he never did. Sakura can't have any influence on his decisions nor can she being in danger spark a reaction from him. Sakura was never herself around him and couldn't stand up to him. Sasuke took off for 3 years and not once did he ever think of her. Kishimoto's message is very clear; neither character can influence the other in terms of decisions made nor has he made any attempt to develop the bond between them, so it's safe to assume SasuSaku was never meant to be and this latest act (which is going too far even for "good" Sasuke) might just be the thing she needs to realise a few things.

 

NaruHina

I have to admit, this is the more tolerable rival ships out there, but I still have to say it won't work out. Hinata's entire character has been centred around Naruto. He was her inspiration and she admired him from afar. But rather than act on this and attempt to fill his loneliness, instead she watched him from afar while he suffered. Personally, I don't use that argument much because there are deeper problems with the ship.

 

Kishimoto has made it a point to parallel relationships of people of the past to those in the present. This sort of tactic gives us insight into how characters are and how they might end up. He's used this with pairings especially, by paralleling characters like Obito, Rin and Kakashi to Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke. The set up was the same, Obito/Naruto the clumsy idiot, Rin/Sakura the medic and has a crush on the best member, and Kakashi/Sasuke, the lone wolf who excels in combat and doesn't have much of a bond with the other two. The idiot and lonewolf have a rivalry, where the idiot want's to win the heart of the medic who likes the lone wolf.

 

The entire set up is a direct parallel to Team 7. The idiot (Naruto/Obito) wants to be acknowledged, become the hokage and win the hearts of the love of their lives (Sakura/Rin). The medic wants to win the heart of the lone wolf (Kakashi/Sasuke) who is not interested in that sort of relationship. In a manga where the previous generation is meant to surpass the last, that there already puts NaruHina into the dangerzone because neither Obito nor Jiraiya (whose team is directly parallels Team 7 to some extent) managed to win the hearts of the girls they loved, yet never stopped loving them anyways. When you remember that particular theme, then it's also reasonable to assume that Naruto will achieve all goals he set out (become hokage, gain acknowledgement, save a fried and win the heart of the girl he loves). Hinata doesn't factor into this because she was never anything Naruto had to fight for. She was not a goal.

 

You cannot tell me he has given up and moved to Hinata because there has been no indication that he made such an action. Tsunade loved Dan but that didn't stop Jiraiya from loving her. Loving Sakura is just one aspect of Naruto's character and winning her heart is a goal he has set out to achieve. His feelings have been made perfectly clear from chapter 3 and for the most part has no wavered.

 

The conditions needed for Naruto to move would have to be for her to reject him in part 1 or for Sasuke to love her as she (selfishly) loves him. Now that he's rejected, he can then begin the process of moving on, so in part 2, Kishimoto will gradually build the relationship with him and another girl (Hinata) which will lead to a moment where he will place the girl he's meant to be beside him at his darkest hour.

 

Naruto has never been rejected by Sakura because he has not confessed to her, with his reasons for not confessing being made perfectly clear from the start. Naruto loves Sakura and that aspect as been consistent throughout the manga.

 

From a narrative perspective, Hinata's relationship with Naruto has not progressed beyond that of friendship. The entire ship, like SasuSaku has been carried through two parts by the girls, but because the girls like the guys, their feelings are given priority so the guys will eventually fall for them, despite there being no manga evidence to support the shift.

 

Another parallel that works against them is MinaKushi. This character was also created to give insight into who Naruto might end up with. Kushina's mannerisms, past and opinion of the guy at the beginning for the most part, mirrors Sakura. There is an aspect of both girls they hate, they both have a hot-headed temper and they both had low opinions of the blonde guys. The guys compliment aspects those characters hate and both save them from certain doom. There is also Kushina's words that he should find a girl just like her, who we've seen is Sakura.

 

I'm going to be honest, despite what translations you follow, they all mean the same damn thing. "Don't fall for the first girl that comes your way" "Don't pick the first girl that comes your way" and "Try not to pick the weird one" all mean the same damn thing within the context of the story. First girl that comes your way means the first girl to show affection towards you, but instead for YOU to find a girl JUST LIKE YOUR MOTHER. Sakura's temperament and past is the same as Kushina's, and there is no doubt she loves, cares for and supports Naruto's dreams. This shouldn't get anyone scared/worried, nor should rival ships hail this as a victory for their crappy ship. This is classic NaruHina spin/NaruSaku fear and paranoia taking over, where people abandon all reason and observation and then twist the manga to suit their pairing agenda. If Hinata was meant to parallel Kushina, then tell me why Minato was put in the same scene with Sakura and Naruto, where he right there though Kushina and Sakura were alike? If Kishimoto planned for this parallel what was the point of using Sakura? kittening lol.

 

Trying to analyse the situation in a way that enables you to make excuses about why this and that really happened is useless because this is a story where Kishimoto controls the situation, what the characters see and what they say and react. So if Kishi intended that scene to play out like that, with Minato MEETING Sakura, who was established to BE the MAIN CHARACTER'S LOVE INTEREST ON CHAPTER 3, making excuses like "he didn't meet Hinata so he assumed that Sakura was his love interest" or any other garbage along those lines makes you look foolish and desperate.

 

Kishimoto's intent was for Sakura and Naruto's relationship to develop and eventually lead to the new MinaKushi. Hinata is not Kushina 2.0. THat;s not her character. She is a supporting character with little relevance. Why didn't Kishimoto put her next to Naruto on his deathbed? Why did Sakura hug him tenderly in front of everyone instead of Hinata?

 

And why is it that Hinata's deepest desire is to be with Naruto, but that desire is paired with everyone's else in the IT. None of those desires will come to pass, we all know that, so if Kishimoto's intent is to do NaruHina, why spoil it and why place it alongside other dreams that have no chance in hell of happening?

 

So why create Hinata? If Naruto ends up with Sakura what is the point of her character?

 

It's for fanservice and pairing tension to keep that (small) crowd interested. Characters like her appear in stories all the time, and very rarely do I see them get the main character when he already has a love interest.

 

Shamen King had a character just like Hinata and someone like Sakura. The main character chose the Sakura of the cast in the end, leaving the Hinata single. Just because the character was made to love the main character doesn't mean the author has any obligation to pair that character off with him.

 

NaruSaku

NaruSaku as a pairing is Naruto loving Sakura and making sure she is happy, even if its at the cost of his own happiness. Before it started out as a simple crush, but later developed into true love. What many people fail to see with NaruSaku is the actual lengths Naruto would go to make sure Sakura is safe and happy. This was fully demonstrated against Garaa, where Naruto displayed powers we had never seen before, all for the sake of protecting Sakura. There is also the promise of a lifetime, the point where Naruto, despite being unhappy with it deep down, will bring Sasuke back to Sakura if it meant she was happy, and while Naruto had his own reasons for pursuing him, the promise of a lifetime further shows us just how far Naruto is willing to go to make sure Sakura smiles again, even if it means he'd be heartbroken.

 

People like to downplay Naruto's love for her as comic relief and to make their terrible ship look better. NaruSaku is all about selfless love, and sacrificing your own happiness if it meant the other would be happy. This is demonstrated in the Land of Iron where Sakura, if it meant she was unhappy, was willing to ouright kill Sasuke if it meant Naruto did not suffer anymore. The fake confession might not have been the right way to go about things, but you'd have to be a complete fool to not realise everything there was done for the sake of Naruto. Yeah, I admit that this ship has glaring flaws, such as Sakura still being hung up on Sasuke and 693 (in the eyes of some), it's late in the manga and Sakura has just poured her heart out to Sasuke, knowing Naruto's feelings towards her and Naruto being right there seeing it all, but it's really simple where Kishimoto is going with his. Why does Naruto still hang onto Sakura and not give up on her? It's because when you love someone you will put their happiness before yours if it meant they would smile again.

 

 

it's that simple. That's what NaruSaku represents; selfless love. SasuSaku does not represent that, neither does NaruHina (but I suspect that is what Hinata will do once she's out of the IT). When Kishimoto did the parallel with Kushina and placed Sakura beside Naruto's side at his darkest hour (with Karin alongside Sasuke, who he shares a stronger bond with) he made it clear what the endgame pairings were likely to be. CPR or not, but the anime/mangas I've seen where the love interest performed were huge moments for those ships, where the boy/girl (usually the girl) states that was her "first kiss". That and the thoughts on her mind when when performing the CPR further strengthens the ship. Kishimoto could have easily placed Naruto with Hinata and Sakura with Sasuke,, but he chose Naruto and Sakura and Sasuke and Kushina. :)

 

SasuSaku as been selfish from day 1. Sakura's confession mainly revolved around her own loneliness and how they would be happy. She made no attempt to tell Sasuke why SHE liked HIM. It's been referred to as selfish and even Sasuke, the biggest Anti-SasuSaku guy out there, was puzzled why she even likes him at this point. Kakashi's "no reason to love" only applies in the initial stages of attraction, so if you're still holding onto Sasuke for all these years, you need to give us an actual reason why. While the raw and Viz translation clear up what Kakashi was saying and Sasuke's misunderstanding, I want to see what Sakura does when she wakes up.

 

The genjutsu could mean many things. It could mean Sasuke symbolically killing the love she held onto for seemingly no reason, so she can finally move on. Whatever it means, the only way forward for her character is to move on, because we have no reason why she loves him nor does she have any reason to, as he never gave her a reason to. He even said this and also said he doesn't have a reason to love.

 

We have never been given any reason to question Sasuke's word. When he says something he usually means it till something happens which changes his way of thinking. When he said he would destroy Konoha, he meant it till he found out what Itachi fought for and why, so he didn't want to crush him. When he said he wanted to kill Naruto, he very nearly came close to it till Naruto stopped him. Now he says he wants to kill the Gokage's and Naruto because they represent the system that destroyed his life, and right now he really wants to kill him.

 

When developing a ship, there is always a consistent pattern the author follows while throwing scraps towards other ships that pick up steam to keep them guessing and interested. Whenever a NaruHina scene happaned, it was followed shortly after by a NaruSaku moment. The handholding moment was purely for chakra transfer and Naruto saying she was by his side the entire time was him referring to the moment Neji just died and he thought he was alone at that very moment, not knowing Hinata was there still supporting him. That right there I think was a good conclusion to NaruHina, as Hinata can finally stand next to him as his equal and support him in battle.

 

The girlfriend moment was for comic relief but still gave us brief insight into Naruto's feelings at that point in the story. We see right there he's still attracted to Sakura to some degree and the moment was also set up to also possibly hint at what the endgame might be. This was after the hand-holding moment as well. :)

 

Trying to dispute Naruto's love and relegate it to just a simple crush, but then sitting there and justifying why Sakura still loves Sasuke just further shows how bias people can be in the face of manga evidence. Find me ONE chapter which proves that Naruto is not in love with Sakura anymore. I'll concede once you find that one manga page where there is no dispute that Naruto is not in love with Sakura anymore.

 

Also, explain to me why it's wrong for Sakura to fall in love with Naruto, but it's perfectly fine for you to force Naruto and Sasuke to love girls they've been written to only care for on a platonic level. With manga clear manga evidence, find me the chapters and pages where Sasuke and Naruto showed genuine romantic love for Sakura/Hinata. What makes Sakura loving romantically genuine when he took off for 3 years without giving her a thought, nearly killed her twice and disregarded her when he was on his heel-face turn? Lastly, why is it that only Naruto's love has only been on a "crush" level while both girl's crushes developed into full on love despite not having screentime written where they got to know the boys on a personal level?

 

SasuSaku has always been about Sakura and her own insecurities (as shown by her hiding her true self around him and always feeling bad at stuff he says). She thought by pursuing and being acknowledged by the best ninja in class, she'll finally get her wish and it'd boost her confidence, but Sasuke has been a persistent negative character in her life. Her moving on romantically from Sasuke would be the perfect conclusion to her character, and all the moments (and confusion from things people like Sai and Obito said to her) will ultimately lead up to some revelation. The novel where the Kakashi of the story told her to think of what makes her most happy would be the best thing to happen to NaruSaku in a while, and it's very possible it'll happen within these weeks.

 

That is of course, assuming Kishimoto stays on that path.

 

So what chances does NS have of happening in the next 4 weeks? Well if what I said is all valid then it has a very good chance of having Sakura confirming the nature of her feelings for Naruto, with the rest being resolved in The Last. I personally don't think they give a crap much about shipping in the movies, as shippers make up a very small portion of that userbase. People care more about the action, not some crappy romantic subplot.

 

With the information and parallels provided, NaruSaku looks like the endgame pairing.

Youtube is the worst place type essays about pairings. Best places would be forums or tumblr. 

 

Essays might seem like a waste of time some people, but sometimes other people need them. Essays about their OTP done by well-educated people might give them more hope or faith in their ship.
