I don't think you can come out of insanity, though. Especially for Sasukes state of mind: Watching his parents become killed, finding out everything he first thought about Itachi was a lie, and then, well, he's gone through a lot of trauma experiences to sum it up. We all know that. On top of all that, too, there's so much hate in his heart. 
I really don't think he can come out of it so easily, or at all, even. I sort of like to think of him as P4 from Ginga Densetsu Weed. P4 was a "test experiment" and basically the humans turned him into a monster. Jerome tried to become friends with P4, but P4 still took the path of wanting to kill Jerome and his friends in the end, leading to P4's unfortunate death. P4 had so much hate in his heart, and for that, he became the monster that he was because he indured such a cruel life. Am I making sense? 
I kind of think that Sasuke and Naruto will have the same effect. With p4's fight with Jerome and his pack, it was an emotional one indeed. There was a lot of memories where Jerome and P4 had talked, and the bond they shared, but it still lead to his death.

There was also the one between (GDW) Teru's father, and Thunder and Lecture. Terus father was evil to his son, and he made the chance to turn it all around and give his life for his son at the end. There could also be something similar for Sasuke in the end, sort of as a 'forgive me' way, with Sasuke saving Naruto. In the end Terus father was ''redeemed" before his sons (Teru) eyes, (as Sasuke might be.) from the cruel he had done to his son, and his son forgave him, but he still died in the end from the injuries

In common sense would be a good idea, but after Shikamaru Sasuke Kishi's favorite character.
and he already express openly that Naruto will save Sasuke.
Honestly his death would be the best message he can to send to readers for
someone that ditched and betrayed his loved ones to walk in the path of revenge
there will never be no happiness for someone that shoes revanche instead of forginnes.
but sadly the story is about the bond, friendships and forgiveness.
