You know I was having a conversation with Ria about Naruto and the whole sexism aspect to the series over the past weekend. That's when she asked me an interesting question.  

 

Well in Part 1 you don't feel that way, I feel like you can really see it in Part 2, I mean Kurnei is a perfect example and also Kushina too. Do you feel like Part 2 is where Kishi showed sexism to the female characters? or do you feel like it's been there since the beginning?    

Your cousin, a reasonable NH fan. How does she feel towards that couple now btw?

Well, I personally never realized this before, but a post opened my eyes to the unfair distribution of male and female team members. It's always one girl per team, no more, but sometimes not one at all.

It's not really sexist, but remember the flashback with Ino and Sakura doing this flower arranging? Never understood what the whole deal about that was, but wiki said this:

"Girls must attend kunoichi classes, where they are taught about other cultures and how skills such as flower arranging will help them to blend in during an infiltration mission." So girls are being taught to become spies?

Nice! So that means Jiraiya is ok, because he overshadowed. Never once I ever read how Madara or Orochimaru was pictured bad, that must be mean that men's are totally ok too be evil. That's some of this "woman's can't be pictured like that" is just too ridiculous.

No! You are getting me wrong mate. What I am trying to say is that....characters like Jiraiya were already made so good that aspects like Jiraiya's perverse nature was taken as a comic relief. Have you ever seen Jiraiya portrayed as Jiraiya being a pervert during a fight or on an important mission? That is when we see a completely different Jiraiya! He doesn't even care about his life then. And he was portrayed in such a way that his 'good' masked the 'wrong'

Orochimaru and Madara were meant to be portrayed as evil. In the 'evil' department they had sufficient development. What's the point of pointing out that they are evil when they are meant to evil. Their characters are designed that way! Its not okay to be evil. Definitely not. But a story does not consists of good only. Series like Naruto have evil people and anti heros. So you cannot criticize Madara or Orochimaru for being bad. They are meant to be bad. Now...if all of a sudden Orochimaru is filled with emotions and starts caring and loving Tsunade, won't you criticize his character then? You sure would, right? If Madara suddenly becomes so good and all warm and all like Naruto...you'd criticize him right? That is when they'd be criticized.

Portrayal of woman is just...so wrong on so many scales that other errors are really masked! Sakura is a glaring example!

I've had my own little fights with NHtards and Narutofanboys today. Youtube has become an inhospitable place for the anime community if you ask me.

Trust me, the fans(of anything anime, music, etc.) on YT are just horrible in general, probably top five in terms of the worst thing on the internet

And about other - so you saying there was no such women as Karin-type? Because she from the first time was portraited as someone who is totally crazy over Sasuke. And I can see that kind of women. One thing - Karin that had her ways and reasons for Sasuke, other way - Sakura and her contradicted moves that went totally against all development she had.

Yeah no offense but Naruto Sasuke and Sakura are THEE most stereotypical characters I've ever seen in a story.
Naruto: perverted loser who's also the nice guy of the group and is a kittening idiot.
Sasuke: handsome popular jerk who's a total A-hole to everyone and plays the bad boy. Hated by the hero.
Sakura: selfish naive girl who's liked by the hero but ignores him for the bad boy who hates her. shallow and often plays damsel in distress.
They never really develop. Even at the end they sorta fall back to these same 1 dimensional characters.

 

I think this is pretty accurate and proof that Kishi either was getting carried by a great editor in Part 1, or really regressed as a creative writer.

Nah, I could care less about his view of love, day is day, and night is night. Some things just exist the way they are. If that's love, I can't even think of what Naruto, Jiraiya, Minato and Obito had in their character's core.

All of Sasuke's admirers are called out for liking such a cruel rotten guy only for his looks..forgetting the fact that it was usually something that triggered that devotion like Sasuke saving Karin from the bear and "Sasuke" complimenting Sakura's forehead. I don't even like Sasuke but there is a double standard where his fangirls get bashed while Naruto's fangirls get praised to hell and back like how Hinata sucks Nardo's kitten. The Sakura-hating Naruto fanboys must be that starved for attention. XD Naruto only has one fangirl by the way (Hinata) which explains why they treat her like such a goddess lol.

Uh huh! Double standards are everywhere! They hate Sakura for being a damsel in distress everytime but forget that Hinata is no different. Atleast Sakura can stand her own....Hinata cannot even do that!
