Yeah, I agree...I don't understand the hate unless something like Naruto is pulled or you are a reason to hate but not one where obviously something is going on with the character because most likely we will learn about themUrie is annoying, but he doesn't deserve the amount of hatred he receives after this chapter in my opinion. It was more there to highlight how much he suffers from his superiority complex. Loosing a parent can affect anyone in a different way. Jup! That's what I love TG for, too. Whenever you think you'd hate someone, Ishida somehow makes us feel bad for the characters. When I saw that chapter about Suzuya's past... Uhuhuh, we do not speak of it. And even Nutcracker for a short tiny moment. Before we know it, Ishida will make us feel bad for Torso/Saeki XD

Losing a parent can be bad, but that in no way excuses him for acting the way he acts. He's a prick. He blames everyone for his fathers death, and he lashes out at everyone. Not only that, but he has an entitled attitude and believes that he is much better than he actually is. All what you say is true, and in the end, it is on the reader whether or not one can empathize beyond that.
He's a tragic victim of his superiority complex. His selfishness causes him to alienate from everyone and to build a wall around himself. He's literally suffering from his need to get recognized. To me, he's a pretty interesting and complex character whose character development is something I'm looking forward to see alongside the other squad members. Knowing Ishida, he'll redeem him somehow (unless readers refuse to give him a chance b/c that's a whole other story).

I've noticed he can be a very selfish character...
You don't say- lol, jk. Maybe he was just not fit to be a CCG investigator in the first place. He might physically fit enough, but mentally, I don't know... He had a complete breakdown before the Anteiku Raid Arc; Akira was a lot more composed (and Suzuya didn't give a kitten, lol). But at the same time, everyone knew how dangerous that raid would be, and coupled with his inexperience, so yeah...
