I didn't realize how subjugated women were made in Naruto before the ending came out. Now that I reflect back on it, I realize how incredibly sexist all this writing was. Even the teams! There's always one girl and no more in each team. That might of course have had something to do with the fact that less girls were allowed to become ninjas than boys, but still.
EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot that this is a shounen manga; the number of girls must never exceed that of boys.
And if it wasn't for RtN and those fillers, I would have thought that Kushina simply became a housewife after years of being active as a ninja.
Tsunade didn't have to kittening step down b/c Mr. Scumbag told her to do so. Bet she was a better Hokage in those three to four years than Naruto will ever be in his lifetime.
We did have some interesting women in Naruto though. Of course there is Konan, who decided on her own to stand by her last friend. Yugito Nii... wish she hadn't been killed of so early on in the show. Kiba's mother who apparently "scared" away her husband, imao.

Hmmm good point.
EDIT: I remember when I saw that death I was like "Okay that was a shocking death, but it really came out of nowhere. There wasn't a build up to the death like Asuma, Jiraiya, Pain, and Obito's."
Yup, Neji's death surely unpredictable. But then again, for NH's sake, everything is...unpredictable

True, but the fights were different for the most part, so maybe the anime took the idea from the author, and he's just going in a different direction.
i hope you're right, but seeing mein and budou's fight play out the same way the anime did made my heart drop. that's one of the things i did not want the manga to follow. and i'm just mentally exhausted from my kitten fit i just had while reading the raws. i just don't know anymore. ![]()

It should have been, since the way she confessed was more desperation than actual love plus all the hints that were going to Naruto in this arc, then the genjustu but you know Kishi, women can't move on or they're terrible
I know it was desperation but it was just so pathetic.
There are a lot of Sakura bashers out there and I used to fiercely defend her every chance I got. But 693 crushed me. No normal woman would put up with that kind of crap, and before 693 you could make one hell of a compelling argument that she was over Sasuke but more importantly that she wasn't going to take his crap anymore.
Even concerning her combat strength she had just punched a Shinobi Goddess and proved her usefulness.
But 693 ruined that and even now it still makes me cringe. Regardless of her feelings for him, where is her self-respect and pride? Where was her fiery take no prisoners attitude? Even Kushina used to dish out merciless beatings to the guys who made fun of her hair. Sakura beat the crap out of Sai for calling her ugly.
Why does Sasuke get a free pass? A lot of ppl even on this forum didn't care as much bc NS was still possible. But forget NH, SS never should have happened.
Like I said any mention of Sas-gay, SS, or 693 makes me:

A-kittening-men, that's one point, 693 was something that almost kills her, but with NS is could be forgoten as her last cry-out... But then... ![]()

I knew that manga was sexist but the impact of 693 and Naruto's ending is increasing the impact of sexism in manga for me period.
It's almost like every series is the exact same thing. Male Protagonist who eats a lot of food and is slightly perverted takes on stock villain who plans world domination in some sort of way. At his side is the brooding male lancer whose morals are not as clean as the All-loving protagonist, the female who takes down regular baddies but is completely useless against "Real" threats and either falls for the protagonist or the lancer, and the mentor who is extremely powerful but tends to lose fights to show how awesome the villain is.
Meanwhile thrown in between is a ton of female fanservice involving bikinis and hot springs. the hero never gives up under any circumstances, and a lot of crazy hair.

One Piece never was there. And female protagonist... eh... with that one, male characters would be not intresting or half-dead.

I always feel like Mikasa and Armin switched roles or rather, what many others would have done and if that's the case, then cool.
Anyway, I got Sakura's part done in my LAP. Not easy. Now, Naruto. Oh boy, luckily I'm not including The Last...yet.
