A little bump:

Dead or Alive 5: 8/10

I'm a Fighter! --Click here to view--
Its been over half a decade since the latest DOA released for the consoles and the wait was long because of its long, bumpy road after the 4th installment. First off, if you didn't catch the news years ago, the series creator, Tomonobu Itagaki, was going back and forth with statements whether he's making the next game or not. Then in 2008, he sued and left Tecmo with several other colleagues which had brought scary news that new DOA production would not make the green light and the series will be in rock bottom. However, Tecmo had said that DOA and Ninja Gaiden will be continued which brought relief for fans. After success with Dimensions for the Nintendo 3DS, the 5th game soon went into production... and boy, they went all out!

As soon the game is on, there is a huge difference, graphics-wise. Since past Dead or Alive 2, the characters were still in that anime-look and when looking at the ladies like Kasumi, Tina and Ayane, the looks make them have very unrealistic proportions in all areas. (Look at DOAX2...) Plus, many people dislike the appearances of the characters, especially the ladies, because they actually looked like dolls. Now, the characters look very realistic, which some like Kokoro is an actual Japanese girl trained as a geisha, not a big-eyed doll in a kimono outfit. Also, if you have the options on, characters can now sweat when battling and get dirtied, similar to Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Now I can get to the story. So two years had passed since DOA4. Helena had rebuild and reestablished her father's company for a better future. This timeskip also aged all the characters, which means Kasumi, Ayane, Kokoro and Eliot are in legal age. (Cue the hentai! heheelq7.png ) Anyways, as the 5th Tournament announced, Victor Donovan, the main antagonist of the series, has created his own organization named MIST and continues the research of Project Alpha. Kasumi is on a quest to find and destroy her clone, Alpha-152 once and for all.

Now, the summary looks good. Play the Story Mode... expect PLOTHOLES and a PLOT TWIST. Keep that in mind.

Since this is a fighting game, there are going to be new fighters joining in. We have a TaeKwonDo fighter from Canada named Rig, who has no "memory" of his past and works at an oil rig, which is near the tournament grounds. And we have Mila, a Spanish MMA fighter who is making her dream to become champion a reality.

Joining them are guest fighters, from, guess who? Virtua Fighter. Akira Yuki, Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan were added into the DOA universe to challenge the DOA ladies and men, for Sega teaming up with Tecmo for help publishing the European version. As you may know, DOA did first started in the Arcades using Sega's Model 2 engine. While it look very similar to Virtua Fighter 2 at the time with the standard graphics, gameplay and ring-outs, the only differences were the Danger Zones surrounding the edges of the arenas and the concept of the hold button. Will this make way for a potential DOA vs. VF crossover? I'm very hopeful that it should. The VF characters felt almost the same as the originals with some minor changes, using their VF5: Final Showdown moveset. However, they had little involvement in the Story Mode, with Pai having no appearance what so ever.

Gameplay: DOA4 was heavily criticized about a year after its release because not only for the AI, but for the gameplay being broken due to the counter system (by frames). Now the counter system is fixed, still using the four-point system and most characters now have expert holds. New to the game are the Power Blows, which is an animated sequence of the fighters attacking their opponents to ending by blow them away towards the Danger Zone. This happens when your gauge begins to flash red after losing 50% of your health. Then we have Critical Burst, an attack(s) that can actually stun your opponent during a Critical Stun to continue a combo or go right into a Power Blow when health gauge is red. This replaces the Bounce combo system from 4.

From playing it so far, the game felt more stricter with the holds, while the moves can do only 5-9 hit combos until you use the Critical Stun move(s) to continue the combo to 10+ hits. I prefer the bounce system back to give that extra ummph! when doing the combos. However, while the AI is better and beatable than the mess in 4, they can do those Critical Stuns and Power Blow combos in 5 seconds when their gauges are red. Take some notes on that when playing that because they will get sneaky.

While DOA is not only known for the ladies (and boobs) but also for the beautiful and stunning multi-tier stages. However, some stages will get too destructive if you look closely while fighting. In certain stages, you can toss your opponent to an event called a Cliffhanger. As your opponent hang on to dear life not to fall, you can strike him/her to an amazing air combo or throw them down to the ground with a press of a specific button. Although your opponent has an opportunity to guard.

Looks great and all, but here's one problem: there aren't enough stages that has Cliffhangers. It was the hyped part of the game, yet the other stages are basically regular stages with more Danger Zones with realistic touches and involving in dangerous situations and environment (example: the Hot Zone stage is like fighting in the middle of a gun/tank battle in the Iraqi War). And some are out right down scary and silly (fighting on top of construction building to cause havoc down below on the street and fighting on a rooftop near a subway track to cause train crashes).

Gone are the character themes (most of them appeared only exclusively in Story Mode and majority of them came from DOA3 and 4). Some of the music are lacking. (Can't speak for online, but my experience is the same). There are tons of DLC content, involving costumes from past games, and some borrowed each other's outfits (looking at you, Mila for taking Tina's!)

Other than that, welcome back ladies! (And the gents!) You all proving you are fighters!

Assassin's Creed III (Xbox 360): 6/10
HUGE disappointment. The game is a glitchy, not fun, convoluted mess that has a horrendous Ending that makes the Pre-Extended Cut Ending of Mass Effect 3 look like the Ending of Citizen Kane.

Dead Or Alive 5 (XBox 360): 8/10
The most polished game in the Franchise, in more ways than one.

Dishonored (PS3): 9/10
One of the best Non-Shooter First Person games I've played since the original Bioshock.

WWE '13 (XBox 360): 10/10
Some minor issues aside I haven't played a better Wrestling game in a long time.

Reading through the reviews made me realized I haven't given my review for ACIII.

Assassin's Creed III (PS3 version) was a worthy addition to the AC franchise. Sitting comfortably at a 4/5, I enjoyed how they portrayed the Revolutionary War. They pulled no punches, showing the issues that aren't normally taught or expanded on in American History classes in middle and High School. In other words, the Revolutionary War was portrayed in shades of grey, not the black and white 'fight for liberty for ALL Colonists.'

I especially enjoyed the characterization of the Templars, they strayed away from the power-hungry, insane, and corrupt Renaissance-era Templars, bringing them back to the characteristics of the Middle Age Templars, people who actually think what they're doing is for the good of the people, except for two Templars. In contrast, it also examines the Fall of the Assassin Order that probably led to the weakened Order we see in Desmond's time. They have become a reactionary force, gone was Ezio's philosophy of countering the Templars by strengthening the people to think for themselves. While it's true that Connor's actions inspire others, he's very concentrated on vengeance, much like the younger Ezio, and he doesn't really seem to grow from that.

That brings me to the next issue, Connor himself. While I think Connor is a very badass Assassin, his characterization rubs me the wrong way. He's actually similar to Anakin. He carries the air of "It's not my fault!" and "I'm correct, you're wrong!" For example, he continuously argues with Achilles, at one point telling him why Achilles should be proud when Connor's been doing everything, Achilles counters by asking him to return the blades and the years of training, etc. Connor responds by challenging him into a fight and generally acting like a spoiled brat. While Connor is, at heart, a very compassionate and kind man, the contrast between his compassionate side and his arrogance side is a bit jarring. Still, he does get better throughout the story, mostly reining in that arrogance. Actually, his whole character arc corresponds with Altair's in ACI, very well.

Actually, thinking about it, the entire game is pretty much ACI in Rev. War. and prettier.

Which is fine.

I actually didn't mind the ending. They said this was the end of Desmond's story, and it definitely ends. Although, I believe there's a possibility of Desmond returning in some way.

Anyway, to the gameplay. I quite miss the "Puppeteer" control scheme from earlier games, but once I got used to the new system, it's really quite a breeze. The combat is almost as smooth as Arkham City. Connor flows from enemy to enemy in a fight. However, it's really annoying to get away from guards. It's simply not enough that you kill every guard, but once reaching maximum Notoriety, the game simply sends you Elite guards endlessly and they don't pop up in your map, making hiding harder. I kinda miss the target toggle on and off.

The graphics are gorgeous, but with a new graphics engine, there must come new glitches. Notably, the carts sometimes just turn sideways, like some kind of Eldritch nightmare. There was also a terrible glitch with mission objectives not popping up in the map. Which meant you had to search the entire cities to find recruiting missions and to expand your homestead, but thankfully, they patched that recently. Otherwise, some minor glitches like guns floating in mid-air and some stretching, but nothing I experienced in my first playthrough. It was weird, really, my brother played it after me in his own account and it looked like he got ALL the glitches, like the aforementioned map glitch.

My biggest annoyance with the game was the damn Full sync. optionals. I must really suck at the game but some of the optionals require extreme luck, and it really pissed me off trying to do some of them.

Biggest Pro in the game though were the awesome ship battles. Honestly, I want a Pirate game based on how they did it. C'mon Ubisoft!

Anyway, that's my ACIII review. 4/5

Pros:
Gorgeous Graphics, smooth gameplay, engaging plot, SHIP BATTLES!

Cons:
Glitches, somewhat weak character, those damn full sync optionals.

Hitman: Absolution (XBox 360): 10/10
Going into this year I had absolutely NO anticipation for this game I hated most of the Hitman games. But after I saw the E3 Stage Demo I was salavating wanting to get my hands on this game ASAP. And the moment I finally sat down and played it I was hooked from beginning to end. And I'm not done with the game yet still got Contracts and other stuff to do.

Screw just about every other game I played from 2012, this is the true Game Of The Year. It's well written, engaging, has great characters and one of the most emotional endings in a Video Game I've ever played. Thank you Telltale you have crafted a Masterpiece.

Halo 4- 9/10

Great game, beautiful graphics, awesome FP multiplayer matches. All around one of the best Halo games. Reach is still my favorite. My major gripe with the game is there servers for multiplayer. If I could go one day without something on the servers messing up, I would give it a perfect 10.

Asura's wrath 7/10

Must buy true ending OTL

The last game I beat was also Asura's Wrath and I think I'd give it an 8.
It's not a game I'd recommend to everyone and at times I'm even loathe to call it a game, the best thing to describe it is an interactive anime, if you're happy to be watching just as much if not more than you are playing than you would have no problem with the lack of control but for those that play games for game play then stay away or at least try and rent first.

As for the game play itself its very simplistic and there is not a whole lot of options but I found it enjoyable, the game does switch game play styles regularly so it adds a bit more meat and variety.
I found the story a little lacking at times and some of the plot threads weren't properly explained or weren't fleshed out but it was still enjoyable, most of the side characters are pretty one note but they are one note for story purposes so its understandable but where the game truly shines is spectacle, it has to easily be one of the most over the top adventures I've ever experienced, the game is divided into episodes like an anime so I found myself anticipating the next episode like a good show.

On the topic of the ending, it makes the experience, it feels incomplete without it and the final episode is such a great moment and reaches unheard of levels of ridiculousness and it really wraps the story up perfectly.

Ex-psych75 buy the True Ending dlc it is incredible.

Not really unheard of when you watch so many Super Robot anime....

The end was pretty much Gurren Lagann, only with giant, robotic Buddhist/Hindu Gods.

ZombiU WiiU: 7.5/10

ZombiU is ambitious in its approach and in some areas, it succeeds, where in others it fails. You play as a survivor in England, a zombie breakout gripping the London at the moment. You are lead into a safehouse by a man calling himself the prepper, and he is your guide. The safehouse is for the most part, devoid of any Zombies, it has a storage container to keep supplies in, and it is one of the only places you can save your progress. Later on, you find smaller safehouses amonst the levels to save your progress in. If you die in this game, you start from your last save at the safehouse as a new survivor. It keeps track of how many survivors you've played as, half the fun is seeing how far you can get without losing a survivor and comparing them to other player's bests.

Basically, this game is about horror through difficulty. To melee you have to first ready your cricket bat by holding the left bumper and then tapping the right bumper as you taking a long swing at a zombies head. A couple of of well timed strikes will eventually put them down. Guns and ammo are scarce. This game actually encourages you to play stealthily and avoid conflict. A refreshing change in a way, from the other games in the genre where you go in guns blazing.

The Good: Interactivity with other players. You will come across the zombified remains of another player, and have the opportunity to kill them and collect whatever supplies they had on them. In a game like this, where you run through supplies quickly, looting another survivors corpse and finding a couple of health packs and some ammo can mean the difference in completing a difficult level.

One level in particular "The Nursery" is the peak of the games experience and one of the first times in a while that I played a survival horror game and practically jumped at some of the things within the building.

The bad: The difficulty of the melee makes it incredibly annoying to employ, especially when you are dealing with a horde. The combat in general feels clunky. This may be intentional, as making the game harder to play, illicits genuine frustration and creates tension as you struggle to keep yourself alive. However, it kills the mood for me, as I felt I was battling the games controls and not the zombies. And since this is a game that makes you have to claw your way back from the safehouse, it forced me to abandon my play through on more than one occasion. Finally, there are multiple game killing glitches in this games. And they have yet to patch it. The game has been released since november, but these problems still exist. I was a victim of one of these glitches and had to replay the whole game. Luckily I improved drastically and was able to beat the game over two days.

I like ZombiU, although I'm not championing it the way some of its fans have. It has issues. However, I'd welcome a sequel, and would recommend it to other WiiU owners who want to play something else than the latest Mario spinoff.

Bioshock Infinite: 9.5/10
Solid shooting mechanics, great graphics, beautiful art design, and most importantly a fantastic story with great characters.

The ending itself messed with my head when I first got to it, and it left the game on a depressing note. But upon realizing the true implications of what happens at the conclusion, you come to see just how brilliant it all really is, even though the ending still remains bittersweet.

Overall, the game is quite simply a masterpiece. shamefulcry0js.gif

Bioshock Infinite (PC, 2013): 10/10
This surpasses the original Bioshock in my opinion in just about every way, shape and form. An AMAZING game that cannot be missed with a great ending.

Tomb Raider
(XBox 360, 2013): 9/10
Not quite perfect, would've loved to have been able to explore the Island more and it felt a bit short to me....but otherwise an excellent origin story.

XCom: Enemy Unknown (PC, 2012): 10/10
I'm usually not into RTS games but the XCom games were always an exception and this is a great successor to those games can't wait for a Sequel.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon 10/10: I usually don't rate that many games perfect, but after playing Blood Dragon it got my seal of approval especially since it's an FPS which are usually pretty generic, but this one is different all the way, and it's thanks to its 80s like nature that it scores so high from me. I loved every minute of the game and they were able to pull off a perfect 80s vibe with this one. Make another one Ubisoft, but do it with respect to the original game.

Borderlands 2 (Yeah yeah I know late to the party) (PC, 2012): 10/10
I have an extreme dislike for most First Person Shooters but the moment I first played this I was hooked.

DmC: Devil May Cry (XBox 360, 2013): 7/10
Great Graphics and easy to pick up and play Gameplay but the HORRIBLE Music and Voice Acting including the absolute WORST depiction of Dante to date seriously detracts from what is otherwise a pretty fun game. Also it's short (7 Hours!).

Injustice: Gods Among Us (XBox 360, 2013): 9/10
Netherrealm does it again, a great Story Mode, a nice assortment of Characters and a polished Fighting Engine makes this one of the lead contenders for Best Fighting Game this year.

Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 (XBox 360, 2013): 7/10
Would get a higher score were it not just Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 with slightly better Graphics. Also this game has inexcusable slow down during some Boss Battles in Story Mode not to mention starting off Story Mode with what I think is Naruto's Worst Arc.

Poker Night 2 (PC, 2013): 7/10
The lines spoken by the cast of Characters are funny but sadly like the first Poker Night it doesn't take long before they start to repeat. Also this game is teeth grindingly hard (Everytime I think I've got the better hand the last card gives my opponent a victory out of kittening nowehere) and though the guy who plays Ash didn't do a bad job he's not Bruce Campbell.

Well, 2 new games I've gotten recently:

Tomb Raider: 5/5. Probably one of the best games I've played in a long time. The origin story for Lara Croft is heart-wrenching, an excellent tale of survival as Lara Croft goes from a nerdy, fresh out of college student, to a hardened woman driven by the need to survive....

It's interesting and sad to see how her experience in Yamatai really broke her during the game.

The gameplay is pretty solid, but the QTEs had a tendency to throw me off-guard since they seem to appear in inappropriate times, but I'm probably just rusty on them. The enemies are also very agile and intelligent, at the end, you'll be forced to use all the strategies you've learned throughout the game. Appropriately challenging, I usually felt like a badass after every enemy encounter.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance: 4/5

AWESOME. Oh man, this game is probably one of the coolest games I've ever played. If you want a game that runs on pure COOL, I suggest this one. Just the fact that you're slicing enemies to bits while heavy metal music plays in the background sold me.

Despite that, the enemies were pretty challenging and varied, you'll also have to fight smart against the tougher ones, so it's no simple hack and slash. Some of the bosses are also pretty difficult to beat, especially this one boss.... Grrrr.

It really saddened me to see Raiden being forced to return to the battlefield after what happened in MGS4. Also, this game seriously made me even more bitter about humanity... man, the atrocities you'll come across.... It's as if they took the 'Murika! meme and took it to the extreme, (heh, memes....).

I also learned a LOT about Socio-economics, History, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Politics, and a lot more via the Codec conversations.

Pretty much the only things wrong is that the Parrying system's a bit dodgy at times and the game was fairly short-ish. Took me 2 days to finish it.

It only took month's after I bought it (mainly because of a lack of interest at times and how busy I've been)

Paper Mario: Sticker Star (Nintendo 3DS) 8.9/10
The mechanics of the game itself are a bit of a let down seeing as the only way to complete a battle is by using Stickers you buy/collect along the way, but each is only a one time use. The battles outside of boss battles are basically optional too, as the only way to gain extra HP is by finding a Heart placed randomly in a level, which gives you 5 extra health. You start off at 20 HP and can get to 100 HP. Now I bet your wondering why I gave it a pretty high score? Well the answers quite simple, while the game play is annoying at times, the battles are still fun, the bosses were pretty unique and the music is FANTASTIC.

If your a fan of the series, I'd say give it a try and for those new to it, it's a pretty good buy in my opinion
