I think by this time, 4life, that I never had a doubt in my mind. XD
Ehhhh...depends on whose view you view it from. Hashirama's, Hiruzen's, and Naruto's view seem to be about acceptance of others. Not so much revenge, but punishment when if comes down to it. Revenge is more of a emotional response, but punishment is the difference between right and wrong. If someone does something bad, then they need to be held accountable for it.
Now Tobirama's, Sasuke's, Madara's, Danzou's and such are more of men that believe in the "whatever gets the job done." Madara's view though I am not sure if he is just a man who has a twisted sense of reality and thinks that the only way to achieve true peace is through control or he is a man who just desires selfish desires.
Come to think of it, the way Madara vcs Madara talks, it seems like a case of like Magneto vs Charles Xavier. Both men wanted Mutant freedom, but CHarles wanted it achieved through peace while Magneto believed in scaring the humans in showing them the powers of the gods. "We are the future, not them." Madara seems to the same way. He, like Hashirama, wants peace too, but he believes that the only way to achieve peace is by pure control rather than co-existence.
I dont see Madara as a guy that wants to do whatever it takes to bring peace, in fact he's just looking out for more power and is using peace as a justificative for it.
Hashirama said it clearly when he said that he was once a nice guy but after the death of his brother all changed, i'm not really into this Infinite Tsukyomi and etc..
In short i dont think peace is what he's looking for.
Due to the infinite possibilites having the Juubi's power he can even destroy humanity itself and construct it again with them not having chakra and him being a god and worshipped by those people or even bring back his brother.
Madara's motives are not "whatever gets the job done." he's just another random villain seeking for power with a plan that doesnt make much sense.
Example let's say that Naruto's dream is to be with Sakura then he gets Sakura on this perfect world but what about Lee who also loves Sakura?
And Hinata who loves Naruto? and etc...
He cant put everyone into the same world and give everything what they want, Madara's plan has flaws and that's why it's not something he did thought carefully in the end he's a crappy villain with a ridiculous motive to do what he's doing currently.
About Sasuke, tobirama, Danzou, i dont think if Sasuke can be put aside with those people since we dont know where he stands, but Danzou did bad things like forcibly recruiting orphans and was responsible by the darkness of the village along with Tobirama.
He had his views confronted but Sasuke doesnt have a clear vision of what should be done to clean the village from the darkness since he's also corrupted by it, his indecisivenes and always changing sides and motives seems like the author's flaw rather than "trolling" or having a plan.
I think Kishi put the kage on the table because Sasuke had no arguments to counter what Naruto would say on a possible fight between them.
Sasuke only had his hatred vs Naruto's nakama power.
But Sasuke holds the knowledge about what the previous kages had done and the village dark side to a point that Naruto cant counter something he didnt knew about.
So Kishi made it to be a dramatic fight around Naruto's ignorance of the kages.
I think Magneto and Chavier cant be really applied to Madara vs Hashirama.
Madara and Obito for me delivered the last hit on the story so far, two villains with motivations worse than Pain and the members of the akatsuki and one was defeated with talk no jutsu and another one is going for the same route.
