Volume 17 Cover came out: 

 

 

 

Don't really know if I'd place it in my favorites, but I will say I do think its great. 

 

 

 

One of the vibes I'm getting at just by seeing the cover is Somebody is going to die.

Agreed, It's the calm before the storm cover. 

 

 

I hate making predictions about character deaths, but I get the strange feeling that either Sasha, Connie, or Armin might die.

 

 

I can't imagine what the final cover will look like.  

 

 

Fun fact: This is pretty obvious, but the new arc that started with Chapter 71 (latest) is not only the beginning of Volume 18 it's also titled The Return to Shinganshina Arc.

The live-action movie is currently airing in Japan, but it is faaar from being what people refer to as "a faithful adaptation." I'm pretty sure that by now, you've heard of the major changes introduced to the movie, with the most noticeable one being Levi's absence. Here are two links: One's a review, and the other one providing an explanation to some of the fundamental changes observed in the movie.

Honestly, in order to enjoy this loosely-on-the manga-based adaptation, there's no other way than to "watch it with open mind", like the reviewer said. But even so, a ton of fans-including myself- can't help but feel betrayed with this character regression of Mikasa from the overly protective but strongminded fighter to a traumatized love interest and something else that, uh, the reviewer was carefully trying to explain (basically, she's the victim of this movie, both plotwise and adaptive-wise). Oh well, at least Levi was sparred. Dude might have turned into a full-fledged, ballistic clean freak otherwise.

People should just see this movie as taking place in a different universe tbh, it's not an adaptation so I was already expecting changes in the characters

Not too sure what to expect of the movie (b/c I was never really excited for it in the first place), but I'm interested to see what the reviewer meant with the look of titans.

I don't mind Mikasa and Eren being lovers (in fact I do personally ship them together although its not a huge ship for me). I don't even mind Mikasa losing it at times because of her fear of losing Eren that's very much a part of their relationship. Mikasa though isn't weak, her abilities being so much better then average is also a huge part of her story. That isn't to say the Eren couldn't save Mikasa sometime (since of course he does save her when they are kids theme wise it could work it told right) but it has to be told correctly in order for that to happen.

 

In fact it can be argued the Mikasa and Eren and Eren are gender swapped versions of the Knight and Princess trope. The only main difference of course is that Mikasa didn't fall in love with Eren simply because of his beauty, but instead because he taught her how to live in this world, and gives her something to live for.

 

Levi not being there just doesn't make any sense though. I'm not sure why you wouldn't include him in the story. It's true he isn't the protagonist, but he is a huge part of the lore.

 

Still I'd be interested in watching a dub or sub of the movie one day. In order to judge it on my own.

Well, she isn't weak in the movie, she is still strong and super soldier when it comes ot fight Titans, it's just that she is doing for a different reason...one that I had the displeasure of being spoiled to

Kinda losing interest in AoT at this point. Really just want to see what happens with Eren at the end, and see him and Mikasa go live far away together.

There's been to much focus on historia lately, and she's really a mediocre character. Hopefully we'll see her less and I'll be happier.

I think the focus on Historia is done considering how the last arc was about her and her struggles that side is finally resolved.

Regarding Historia's character I think she's s good character yeah she's got her faults, but at least she's better than Hinata.

Interesting raws, yeah I believe so, if it's not the last arc then it's really close to it. All those call backs to the first arc and those flashbacks makes it look like they're seting up ground for it

I think they are kinda similar actually, with many differences ofc. One of them is that Isayama acknowledges Historia's flaws and lets her develop from them, Kishi ignores Hinata and mocks her for the flaws that he never lets her grow from. :<
