It's funny because...even though we find all these things annoying...most of the authors (including myself) usually DO all of these things in the beginning. sweatdrop.gif XP

My personal worst pet peeve is *warning rant* people who say kami for god. YOU ARE NOT SHINTO. shinto is the religon in japan where kami was god, but it has been replaced with buddism. if you use kami you may thin k it makes you sound like you know japanese culture, but you do not. You just look foolish. In modern day japan kami means hair or paper, not god so STOP USING KAMI FOR GOD. just use god like most of the world

well doesn't Kamie also mean spirit? Like Iwakami would mean rock spirit? I've always heard that at least that or divine and such, like kamikaze is divine wind.

Nerdioh, you're mistaken here. Depending on the kanji 'kami' can mean god, hair (although kami no ke is definitely hair) or paper. Has nothing to do w/ any religion and the word 'kami' for god has not gone out of use. For example shinigami is an application of "kami" as god or spirit. (Why it changes to a g is a bit of a story that I can't seem to explain with onomatopoeias and hand signals XD).

Kami-sama does mean God (in the Judeo-Christian sense) and it can also mean..a god. Has nothing to do with Shinto religion and it hasn't gone out of use...not to my knowledge anyways. Besides if it had, Naruto isn't set in modern day Japan.

I guess in fandom people like to have something they can swear by. The think I think of off the top of my head is Harry Potter fandom. "Merlin's beard!" anyone? XD

That's what I had thought. I've seen the Death Note subs enough times to know for a fact Light refers to himself as "Kami" when he talks about being God of the new world and that Mikami calls him "Kami" as well, both without the "sama" attached.

Although things like this are why it's generally best not to use Japanese words and phrases. The vast majority of authors don't know or understand enough about the language to use it properly, which leads to boatloads of misuse while adding nothing to the story. Personally, techniques and some proper nouns (names, locations and the like) are all I will use.

Can someone explain to me why people write Naruto with a huge grudge against Kakashi? I mean, if anyone had the right to be pissed off from neglect, it would have been Sakura.

But I've read stories where a "badass" Naruto gives Kakashi what-for and I'm just confused.

Oh and I find stories with a 7 foot Naruto bursting with muscles scary. Somehow I don't think Naruto will be the tallest kid on the block. Too much ramen. XD

The Kakashi thing is based on his two things relaly. His lazy attitutde ((read neglectful)), and his favoritsim of Sasuke over Naruto ((read his pushing Naruto off on ebisu so he could train Sasuke))

Both are I agree sore points for naruto and I could see where he might harbor some resentment for him in that regards. it must be tough for your rival too not only get your girls attention, but also your senseis favor. Im not certain how bad things would have been for him if Jiraiya hadnt come along and fixed his seal, especially against Neji and Gaara.

Still sometimes Is ee those same writers overdoo Kakashis laziness. For example in Mizukage (a good fic) As naruto is being banished Kakashis whole responce in the fic is to not worry because he thinks they wont really do it.

Eh's wrong of course and of course Naruto gets banished.

Kakashi isnt that Lazy at all. but their seems to be a tendency too emphasize these tendancies (laziness, sasuke favoritism) etc.

As too Naruto being super huge and tall. well I dont mind him topping out at 6 feet but no taller for me. I dont think he'll eat Ramen for the rest of his life. Im pretty certain Jiraiya Shoved all sorts of healthy foods down hsi throat during the training run to help his growth spurt. Also Im pretty confident if he tries to eat ramen all the time, that Sakura well stunt his growth permanently tongue.gif

I don't understand that idea of Kakashi favoring Sasuke over Naruto. He only focused Sasuke once, and he had a good reason for it. And he don't foisted him on a random idiot, he looked for a better teacher than him (He said himself Ebisu was a better teacher. So obviously he thought Ebisu could help Naruto with his training better that him).

The rest of the time, a more competent master was looking after Naruto (Jiraiya) or something else was happening (Chuunin exams, The chase for Sasuke, the rescue of Gaaa, the second Sasuke's hunt). But the first time Kakashi wasn't incapacited and Naruto and him had spare time, he trained him.

Honestly, I think Kakashi was a bad teacher (and he had to deal with teenagers for first time), but I don't see how Naruto would keep a grudge. Sasuke has done worst to him, and Naruto begrudges him nothing.

That treatment reeks of character bashing: the writer hates Kakashi, and he/she is projecting: he/she wants Naruto keeps a grudge because he does. Usually those fics use to include Naruto hating Sakura because she's a useless, weak, fangirlish, mean b*tch, and hating Sasuke because he's such an evil bastard who evidently hates and despises Naruto.

Of course, that kind of fics disregard Naruto sees Team 7 like his precious people, who saved him from the loneliness along Iruka, and he doesn't mind Kakashi's laziness, Sakura's temper or Sasuke's gruffiness. But character bashers don't mind for getting right the characters and their personalities.

One of the only things that truly ticks me off in fanfics these days...
(And I mean REALLY ticks me off...A recent post in “NaruSaku fic warnings” reminded me of this…)

Is that it seems in every pairing fic in at least ONE of those atypical lemony chapters...someone just HAS to get laid. =__=

(Of course there's lots of versions of these...
Like posting the lemon part on another website (that’s the preferred) and leaving a gapping hole in the bedroom scene of the plot, fade-to-blacks/blackouts, suggested themes...just blatant, unashamed lemoning (sometimes WAY beyond the fanfic Mature mark)....etc...)

My Argument against it:
(If you so wish to read it)

I mean, honestly, (not to be a hater) has anyone heard of ABSTINENCE, lately??!?
(Or challenged the highly unrealistic view that fifteen year olds and virgin collage-age kids can have a highly in-depth, experienced, and sensual (almost to the point of being disgusting), “night out”.
Especially when they’re beyond drunk. facepalm.png )

I just don’t see the logic here…
Any knowledgeable person in the field of selling pleasure (or who chooses to live in the sort of lifestyle they present in these fics) could tell you that.

And please…don’t try to defend that theory and say something along the lines of:

“Oh…but Naruto was so madly in love with Sakura!” (A.K.A. had commitment issues and needed a good lay)…

Or…
“Sakura was so disillusioned with Sasuke!”
(otherwise saying, she was weak and shallow enough to give into him)

“…That they got down and dirty with Hinata/Sasuke or some Random-Heck-Person to take their mind off of their horrible (perhaps unknown on Sakura’s part) misery!!” D8
(And of course to get sexual experience for my supposed-to-be T rated fic!!! ;D)

….Because I’m not buying that sort of trash. -__- And it’ll just make Naruto, Sakura, and possibly even your fic look ten times worse.

Anyways…

Yeah, I know these days (and in different societies over the centuries) it’s widely and culturally accepted to sleep with your spouse before you get married…

(And that’s the couple’s choice, not mine. Just to make that clear. I’m not trying or going to judge anyone for that. (So please don’t hate on me for it, cuz that’s not what I intended or the point I’m trying to make.)
And of course, there are always the chosen few that say “no” and wait. ^__^ My parents did.)

…But that doesn’t mean I have to like it. -__- Or see it reoccur in fic after fic after FIC of my favorite pairing. (It’s kind of depressing, and a bit annoying…actually. :X)

I’m not going to list examples, to say which are examples of this, because I personally think that would be rude (and it wouldn’t really help anyone either), and there are so many in this cadigory, that I wouldn’t be able to fit them all.

You just have to look around and you’ll find them.

Why is it that the pairings we like the most are the ones we enjoy getting involved in these kind of fics? Does it offer gratification, pleasure, or something in it for readers/writers? I don’t know what to physiologically make of it…

But, to be frank, I’d like to think that WE’D at least think better of Naruto and Sakura…(We’re supposed to be their fans!)…And not just accept them doing immoral stunts like this as a given in their potential relationship.

Like my mamma-sama used to say after seeing examples of this trash-

“WHAT?!??” rawr.gif
“What in tarnation is THIS stuff supposed to be??!!??” *scans over it and reads aloud*
“‘She sighed in pleasure and whimpered as he…’”
*turns green and closes internet window in disgust before reading any more*
“Honey, I don’t want you on the internet doing this…fanfiction and Naruto stuff if that kind of trash is on there…”
“Goodness, does Naruto just go SLEEPING all over the place??!!?”

“Nooo mother, in the manga and the anime…he doesn’t.” *adds hastily* “Oh, Sakura doesn’t either.” sweatdrop.gif “Or ANYONE for that matter. Kishimoto wouldn’t allow it.”

“Then WHY exactly is all this stuff being written…?”

Good question. -__-

Honestly, people, do we REALLY want to give that impression???

---

That’s my say in the matter.

Of course, I highly doubt that anyone will take this “rant” seriously.

(If you are one of those common people who have been doing it/writing it/reading the stuff up till now, the likely-hood is that you’re not going to change anytime soon. That’s your call.
And, of course, different value systems come with different measures and different rules.
…Mine happens to be traditionally conservative.)

A few will chance to comment and agree with me (Or argue…either way.)…

But the real cultural change I’m going to implement is in MY fics.
(As they say, the only person I can change is ME. fairycloud22.
That’s it.
Just sitting and complaining will never get anyone anywhere fast. It’s especially hypocritical to sit and READ these fics, go complain in some forum or review, and THEN do nothing.)

Haven’t written a lemon yet…and personally…I plan to keep it that way.

(I don’t view writing “experience” anymore than I do “sexual experience” in that you have to “practice” the worst/that stuff to be the best.)

Writing “well-written” or “decent” lemons is called smut-literature, NOT art…in my book, and in the common understanding of well-to-do respectable writers and readers today.

Who knows, maybe it’s those little steps that’ll change the culture (and perhaps, even the fanfic world) as we know it today. ^__^

It’s just a matter of making your move.

I’ve made mine, now it’s just a matter of choosing for yourself.

lemons when used properly i might add, add a level of... commitment i guess, its not the word i want but its the closest one i can think of. alot of times lemons are their for the sake of lemons but some are good in the story like the Training for the Job and add to the story.

my biggest hate in stories is ooc, especially the ones for hinata pairing when you might as well strap a black hair wig and white contact on sakura because thats how they have her act. i also find that most stories that don't have sakura paired up with sasuke or naruto she's and oc with pink hair and green eyes becsuae they dont have her act like sakura, she's either one of three things or a mix of the 3 thing, 1) She evil usually teaming up with orochi or danzo to win sasuke's heart 2)she a complete b*tch or 3) she a total slut.

it ruins the stories and the ones who make it known the stories are ooc may aswell not call their stories naruto stories. the whole im going to make these characters act differently so i can make my pairing work is pathetic and i think if you want to write stay with the original characters it cant be that hard, i understand a little ooc but alot of other pairing stories make it just seem pathetic how much people change for their pairing. and hard to read, i start staying away from other pairing stories now unless i want a good laugh.

Personally I don't feel comfortable writing lemons so I don't write them. But as for them being sexually active and not being married, for some reason I can't see them waiting. Naruto is impulsive and so is Sakura, although she does a better job of covering it up. Then again that isn't canon, just my fanon intepretation of it.

So while I don't write lemons, I've written stuff where it's general knowledge the two are sexually active with each other.

But I sort of have a problem with every other fic being a lemon because for the most part the lemons are boring and derivative. It feels like they've all ripped off the same sex scene from a more popular fanfic. So you have to wonder why people do it if they don't have good ideas? Maybe because it's popular?

To me it depends on the story, like Gardens of Rain, only one lemon which is short, yet sweet, but I do hate most fanfics as all the people get their characteristics changed, it saddens me.

writing fanfiction is like cooking
one should only add lemons if it adds to the story.
that is the difference between a story like Training for the Job and say half the stuff found lately. sleep.gif

I know I only added a lemon to In your eyes because it flowed with the story. A greats tory like Hands of Destiny, or Summer Heat from Soltice Equinox uses the lemon to enhance the story and love between the two characters. It doesnt disply the sex but shows them making love IMHO.

Talk of the birds and the bees. --Click here to view--
My only issue with any M-rated sexual material in fiction is if there's no point to it being in the story. If the story's main purpose is to write a hot smexy scene, then I consider the story a waste of space. If it's randomly thrown into a story for no point what-so-ever except that they thought that their characters should be doing to vertical tango, then it usually throws the story off. Unless there is a purpose or if it flows with the story, then there really isn't a need to have lemons/limes/citrus or whatever sort of fruit you want. Besides, if you truly want to show that a couple is close, you can do it effectively without having to have them have sex.

On a side note, I hate reading lemons that repeatedly use the medical terms for human anatomy in the story, or even those that use too much of the slang terms. In other words, most lemons are sour.

End of line.

I hate bad Japanese in general, but one that's been popping up a lot lately (I've seen it in a couple of fics recently) is Naruto referring to Sasuke as "The teme." This may come as a shock to some, but teme does not mean "bastard", or "jerk", or "a**hole", or "meanie poo-poo-head" or anything like that. It's not even a noun. It means "you". As in the second person singular pronoun. I know, I know, the subtitles say all that other stuff, but that's because teme is a particularly rude way of saying "you" for which there is no English equivalent. The subbers' most important job is to accurately translate the message, not the literal meaning of the words.

Whenever I read "the teme" I cringe. It just looks ridiculous.
