Was this done at the request of or in celebration of? If the request of then this was done with Naomi Osaka asking for her with Naruto and Sakura; with her likely being beside Sakura saying she was her favorite character or something. If it was just a random gift then he picked Naruto and Sakura and replaced Sasuke with her. The why is a multiple of possible reason.

 

Wait. I heard of this chick apparently she isn't well liked In Japan. She's some mixed raced Half-Black and Japanese girl that lived in the states since she was three until moving back to Japan at some point. The reason she is dislike is she is one of those activist players; the ones that whine more about social issues then playing and being good at the sport. Apparently, and especially since she was raised in the States she focuses a lot on her black identity, identifying as black more then Japanese, and talking about black oppression; in a country that doesn't really have that much of an African population to being with. Until recently due to covid made Asian oppression finally an in thing with liberals.

 

Oh they think it is about Sasuke because its dated with Sasuke Birthday...A quick check. The Olympic games started on July 23rd, Sasuke's Birthday. It could and is likely just about celebrating the start of the Olympics. Also, if it was a gift about SS, why replace Sasuke instead of Naruto?

 

I will say this. It does says a lot that he drew them like they were before the ending instead of doing the Last or Boruto versions of them.

 

Is there a way for Kishi to redeem himself?

Not at the moment because he is not doing anything worthy of contemplation for redeeming him. What one gift to an Olympic athlete that maybe NS and maybe a slight against the end pairing is all it takes for you to consider forgiving him?

Let me explain Naomi's "situation".

 

Of course she isn't well liked, particularly from Japan, because she's mixed: Black/Haitian American (paternal) and Japanese (maternal). I read about her background in the recent Sports Illustrated magazine (the one with the latest issue had their first ever transgender woman gracing the front cover out of 3, along with Megan thee Stallion and Naomi Osaka on the other 2) : she has an older sister who is also mixed; she learned/experienced some Creole from her father's family but didn't speak Japanese from her mother's side until she became older. In the tennis world, she's the next generation's Serena Williams. Most countries, such as Japan, aren't "keen" with mixed raced people because they are not pure blood. (And you see why we're still experience racism all over the world, not to mention people still freaking out over interracial relationships  ) . What was interesting that she didn't represent America during the Olympics but chose Japan. Throughout the event, there were a bunch of American athletes represented their countries' teams, through their maternal side. Best known examples: in Track and Field, one of the Italians help Italy won their gold medals and they never won a Track and Field event since 1980, and he's Black-American and Italian. 

 

Another thing about Naomi that she revealed recently: her mental health. She talked about the topic and people were talking about her like a storm negatively but ever since then, that pushed athletes such as Simone Biles to stop performing her Gymnastics events for a bit because she was worrying about her own mental health. However, that helped push her teammates to win medals like Sunisa Lee winning all 3 medals during the competition. 

 

And I don't know why people, including SS fans, are pissed off because Sasuke wasn't on it. The drawing was probably a commission or a gift from Masashi to Naomi and her PR team. It doesn't need to be dived into details on why Sasuke's appearance wasn't drawn.

Also, might as well dive in and analyze the whys. Since, their hasn't been anything else to talk about recently, and this is at least something we can all poke at for a few days.

 

Anyways. From what Firstevil said and what I found from a quick look on twitter is that people are saying this celebrates SS because it was dated with Sasuke's birthday. I say it is more likely just dated due to that being the start date of the Olympics.

 

I haven't really seen many complaining about Sasuke wasn't on it; other then me pointing it out. Then again haven't really bother to do more then glance.

 

Other then talking about Sasuke birthday meaning this is SS. The only thing people I have seen talk about is Naomi apparently posted something about Sakura "could never" and people question whether she was dissing her or being sarcastic.

 

Also if this is for PR for who? Kishimoto gets to draw a picture for a tennis player who is disliked for talking more about how not Japanese she is (until very recently), how she is an oppressed black women (while working as an athlete in Japan for years), than she focuses on playing and representing Japan or being Japanese. And if this was Naomi showing how in touch she is with Japan?  Now if she did commissions it and it was her favorite anime nothing wrong there, but still. She picked a series that hasn't been popular for nearly a decade now. If this was PR for either side I don't think it was that successful since out of all the stuff talked about during the Olympics this is something that was never mentioned by anyone and I didn't hear about until today.

Oh, and Moongirl, I just read a boruto movie overview and now Im even more convinced. Naruto is even worse a dad than I thought, I thought he was just neglectful like Sas. But hes worse, hes downright abusive and spends all his time in his office to purposely avoid his family. There are good SNS moments, mild anti nh/ss, but Naruto barely smiles and looks depressed most of the time. Its like a dystopian whatif verse.

The boruto manga actually has some happy family moments, but its not written by Kishi, until now.

Yeah, pretty much. Anything that isn't written by Kishimoto makes NH look like the happiest and most perfect family. (Though these are the same people who tried to turn Hinata's personality into Sakura/Kushina. Yeah, BS. Studio Pierrot and his editors and some of his assistants love Hinata. But he obviously doesn't.)
But when Kishimoto gets his hands on it, he makes it way more honest and truthful. Naruto isn't happy. He chose the wrong girl in the end. It cost him his happiness, distanced his bond with Team 7 and his hokage inauguration day. All he has is a pushover wife who can't raise children and cares more about him than their kids and two snotty, ugly children that are huge brats. He really doesn't like his family.

Good try, Kishimoto. But no. Also lmfao at everyone thinking this is SS because it was revealed on Sasuke's birthday. How delusional can you get? Sasuke isn't even in the fukin picture. And considering how badly Kishimoto has treated SS, I really don't think he had SS in mind at all. You know. Considering he more than likely hates the ship.
 

Is there a way for Kishi to redeem himself?

I've said it before and I'll say it again; The ONLY way I would see him redeeming himself is to spill the truth, confess he fuked up, disown the ending and burrito and then do something about it. Make a new canon ending. (Didn't the Shaman King author do something like that?)

Maybe he would actually regain at least some of the fans he lost and possibly regain the respect he once had.   But the truth is that some people will never trust him again after this and never respect him as they once did. Even if he did so.
But he might actually have a chance again if he did.
 

We all know, however, that the rabid shipping fans, the rabid hinatards in Studio Pierrot and his editors all have him by the nads. So it'll probably never happen. That would require him to have a backbone. Which we know he didn't have for the ending. Plus the longer he waits, the less impact it'll have. As I mentioned before, we're almost on 10 years of this BS ending. 10 years is a bit late to beg for forgiveness. Would be way better than nothing though. It would at least show he might have grown as a person or maybe *gasp* grew something of a backbone.

I've seen some people hope that the end of burrito is just Hinata waking up from infinite tsukuyomi. As hilarious as that would be, I def would not hold my breath. It would certainly out her to be even more of a horrible person than we thought since her 'dream' would include Sakura being put into an abusive relationship and a horrible situation as a debt ridden single mother(Who may not actually be the actual mother of her child and is just raising the child of her 'loved one' and another woman?) who apparently no longer has any contact with her ""closer than family friend, Naruto"". Yet cheerfully supports and ships Naruto and Hinata.

Not to mention her unhappy family. Maybe even she knows Naruto wouldn't be happy with her.

Unlike the West, Japan is pretty dang conservative and hate the kind of social justice you see on the internet. Despite Japan loving to use twitter, they often avoid Westerners for a ton of reasons. Partly because of the SJW situation and because Westerners have zero respect for their work. Turns out Japanese folk really hate it when people use their art or repost their art without their permission. Or share pages of the doujinshi they make online. Ect ect. They deem it extremely disrespectful and a general distrust of Westerners have formed because of it. They also really frown upon what a lot of Westerners tend to do; pirate anime/manga/video games instead of buying it and supporting the studios/creators.
As long as you don't check off any of those boxes, then they'll often give you a chance/be cool with you. As a fanartist myself, I do understand their feelings on the matter.

 

Anyways, it does make me wonder what the circumstances are behind Kishimoto drawing a picture for her. Maybe she's a huge Naruto fan and her favorite characters are Naruto and Sakura? I think there has been a piece of fan art for years of Sakura and Kushina doing that with Naruto and Minato on the ground. Here its just showing how awesome she and Sakura are that they are totally friends or something with Naruto going, "hey I'm here too," in the background. It not really romantic, and really the only reason this could be controversial is the fact that since the ending Naruto and Sakura haven't been allowed to be near each other. For fear the people will realize that they have better chemistry with each other than the people they are married to. 

 

In the West, SJW have been able to largely do what ever they want do to western guilt of their own cultures, indifference/ignorance off the general population, and corporations going along for easy PR. Beside the stuff you said they are having problems in Japan due to lack of understand of the culture, their arrogance due to being successful in the west, and the fact the Japanese can look at what they have done in the west.

Because thats not his legacy. And idk if he is apathetic to boruto or dislikes it, but if he had any interest he wouldve written it himself. And when he does, he goes hard on SNS because thats the only thing that survived the retcon. And the anti nh/ss vibes are obvious when he writes it. I myself have found allyship with SNS fans. Most of them are anti-ending and care that the ninja system, Amegakure and corrupt clans like Hyuuga was never changed. In fact, in Boruto - Ame is a wasteland filled with criminals, but Naruto promised Nagato to bring it peace. : (

I always thought of Naruto as Hinata's idol, not her big crush. She wasn't distraught when Sakura made moves on him, unlike Naruto's pained expression when Sakura hugged Sasuke. Anyway I'm gonna say Boruto and Naruto are like different universes because of how much established canon was changed in order to continue the series. And Boruto is not selling well, lol.

No. Nothing will change what happened. Nothing can erase what was done and said. Nothing.

That being said there is a way for him and the studio to attempt to repair the bridge.

A do over. I've said this before, but the best way is to reattempt a do over of the ending. Not the best way from a story point of view because long before the ending the story had major issues, but going back that far would be a nightmare. So the best way is towards the ending.

The way I would do it is through 2 movies. A restart of the Madara fight. Right after Madara accomplishes his Infinite Tsukuyomi, instead of having Black Zetsu stab him and bringing the retcon Kaguya.

Have a proper fight Team 7 vs Madara. One where Sakura and Kakashi actually are important. Not a "OMG I'm about to show you my new power, oops I'm useless" none of that crap.

Team 7 is able to defeat Madara, save everyone from the dream world, but Sasuke still wants his revenge. It ends with him retreating for the moment to regain his strength for the battle with Naruto.

 

Then the second movie is one dedicated to a buildup towards the fight and obviously the fight itself with great animation. Saw the animation that was done for the anime, and didn't like it.

In the buildup you can have Sakura and Naruto finally have a proper conversation. Just having all the cards shown, not hiding anymore, not trying to save the other by lying or telling half truths or not telling the truth at all.

 

Will that be enough to redeem Kishi? No, like I said. But at least it's something in the right direction.

I'm sure one day Naruto will get some sort of a reboot. It's inevitable. The truth is these companies don't care about the fans. They care about profits. Sooner or later they will do something to reuse the Naruto name. And when they do, going in the same direction as they are now, will not give them the profit they want. So they will have to change it. Unless they're complete idiots.

Question is not when will they? But will we care?

 

Remember this isn't like Dragon Ball where Toriyama gave a mediocre ending to the manga and left.

This is a trash ending and worse they insulted the fanbase. You all know about the idiotic things that were said in the interviews, remember them?
