Hinata and NH will always be obnoxiously popular. If you want to roll your eyes, go look for fanworks where Naruto is with Hinata and bashing Sakura is a stated goal that they even acknowledge they're doing on purpose. There are thousands.
But if you wanna read NS where bashing Hinata is an explicit goal? Good luck even finding one.
There's no firm facts that supports NH/Hinata's popularity. It's a myth. Not everyone goes to YouTube and the internet.
Sales figures? Clearly no, as a matter of fact, it's the other way around: with NH, sales are declining.
Character poll? Well, no. She's barely in top 10 Boruto character popuparity last year. Sakura was at #1, Sasuke #2, Naruto #6. Sakura has always been above her popularity, most of the time.
This is "argumentum ad populum" fallacy. A fallacious argument that concludes that a proposition must be true because many or most people believe it, often concisely encapsulated as: "If many believe so, it is so".
Fact says otherwise, and it hit where the producers hurt the most: irreversible declining sales.
It is not a surprise at all when Hinata is cast aside after the whole fiasco. She's irrelevant then, she's irrelevant now, and she won't be relevant in the future, so long as sales involved.

"I'm sorry I didn't believe. But I'd given up believing in so much, until I met you. From the first day I saw you, you were everything I ever wanted to believe in. You can do this, Diana. I know you can...But I have to go."
"What? What are you saying?"
"It's okay, this is what I came here to do. I can save today, but you... you can save the world."
