... I know. shamefulcry0js.gif

Just to let everyone know, I'm not gonna be on tomorrow for Good Friday. The maternal is telling me to distance myself from electronics and all that as a sacrifice, which is a bummer since I was looking forward to finishing off my seventh playthrough of Majora's Mask. I find that weird because that's how many times I should have played OoT, yet I've only played it twice... XDD

But anyways. Not only that, I'm fasting from food as well. Jesus suffered, so I will suffer with him. Let's see how I go.

I finally have a legit reason to ignore mommy's "TIME TO EAT DINNER" calls :3

Sorry for being ignorant, but are fasts like this common among Catholics in Australia, or is this more of a family thing? Over here, a lot of us only eat a single pescetarian or vegetarian meal on Good Friday, but the only other real sacrifice we make is generally some personal thing of our choosing. And even then most Catholics I know seem to think of it as being voluntary. I've always been curious how Lenten sacrifice is treated outside of the U.S, but I'm too lazy to Google it. tongue.gif

Oh, and sorry to hear about your sleeping habits. sad.gif When I was in middle/high school, I would take over-the-counter stuff like Benadryl or Nyquil to help me fall asleep, but I wouldn't recommend either of them if you have important plans for the next day. They'll help you fall asleep, but you'll still be groggy when you wake up.

How long is the fast? Is it the same as the Muslim one where you fast from dawn to evening?

What Nina said.

It's fine. tongue.gif

Well it is common for Catholics [and other religions too] in Australia to fast from meat on the whole of Good Friday. So we can basically eat anything but meat on this day. But I decided to be a stubborn yet good kid by fasting from food and drink altogether. I'm alright though, I'm surprisingly able to survive long periods of time without eating... but now I can finally drink milk and try my sister's peanut butter cookies! wow.png

And like what you do over there, we also have a personal sacrifice. But yeah, this one's optional though. We also do the forty-day sacrifice as well before Easter, but again, it is optional. Last time I did it, I chose to give up eating chocolate. I don't know how I survived that but somehow I did, what with all my friends tormenting me with early Easter eggs. argh1.png This year I didn't get to do anything but I managed to deal with the pain of not touching my computer, iPod, Wii, etc. for the whole of Good Friday. This wasn't my choice though; it was an order from the mother dearest. mellow.gif But yay, it's 1am and I can finally come on the boards and Facebook again~! biggrin.gif oh and do some extra research for my cosplay kekekeke

Oh and my mom would tell me to drink warm milk if I couldn't sleep. It actually doesn't work sad.gif and she doesn't want me drugging myself to sleep.

Anyway.

Okay so I was only allowed to go back on the comp after 12am buuuuut I went on an hour earlier because my mom needed to see the official art of the character I'll be cosplaying. She needed to see how the cape was made so she could help me with it. And since I was already on I thought I might as well get back on H&E, and I found this before it got deleted:

And then he ended up getting his ass banned again when he tried making another account to spam and troll even more. kruemelmonsteryn0.gif

Yup. And the mods had the nerve to blame us for our actions when clearly one of the mods closed it because of that guy.

Then again if only people stopped replying to him. I tried bringing up a new topic and... yeah I tried, and failed I guess. mellow.gif

It is definitely that guy. I forgot what his username was, I'm surprised you do.

And oh about your fasting, how about you try what the muslims do, no food/drink during daylight for 30 days. Are you up for it? biggrin.gif

On the contrary, we usually gain weight during Ramadhan. For the simple reason of binge eating. We would be fungry around 4pm to 5pm so when we're shopping for food for breaking our fast, we usually buy a lot so there's no calories lost unfortunately.

Ahh, I see. It looks like you celebrate Lent in basically the same way we do. I'm not sure if the personal sacrifice is supposed to be voluntary or not, but I guess my sacrifices in the past few years have been so lame it's sort of irrelevant for me. I gave up video games last year, but I kept amending it to the point where I was only giving up Nintendo Wii. Which was a silly sacrifice, since I didn't even have any new games for it at the time. tongue.gif

Congrats on your fast yesterday, though. That's pretty admirable. I have to refrain from eating until like 9 pm tonight, but I don't think I could pull off not using any electronics for a whole day.

I've always been impressed at how much discipline so many practicing Muslims have. I had a Saudi friend/coworker in college, and his fasting during Ramadan always put what little I gave up during Lent in perspective. On top of that, that year Ramadan took place during the summer, so he had to wait even longer for sundown. I don't think I could pull that off. sad.gif

It sort of reminds of a Jim Gaffigan joke (paraphrased)

"Hindus: Don't eat beef.
Muslims: Don't eat anything during daylight during Ramadan.
Catholics: Don't eat meat on Friday....unless you forget!...ahh do whatever you want."

Ah well, its easier when you have other muslim friends and family fasting with you. I even have this non-muslim friend who fasted with us just for fun of it. I thought that was admirable.
