I couldn't hate her, either, and disliked seeing hate comments.
I wasn't a Sakura fan during part one, but I could appreciate how relatable she was. Feeling weak, helpless, like the world is passing you by and you're not good enough? Man, who doesn't feel like that at some point? And then she went and turned it around, not only overcame her weakness, but made it a strength.
 
At one point Hinata had a similar appeal. That disappeared when in part two the only thing we saw from Hinata was how she felt about Naruto.

I thought sakura whole goal was to be able to be equal with team 7 and move on from sasuke.

People sakura was playing naruto and the confession destroyed everything. Now kish makes sakura really look bad.

Sakura should've be able to punch sasuke and move on.

No disagreement. Sakura's obsession with Sasuke holds her back, it doesn't lift her up. On the other hand, her interactions with Naruto build her up and make her a better person. (Whether she gets with him romantically or not.)

 

Sakura is a favorite character of mine, and 699/700 stomps over everything I loved about her. I prefer to reject Kishi's reality and submit my own when it comes to those final chapters.

When Sakura confessed to Naruto. He got mad at what she said about sasuke not about the actual confession, And yes she was lying about Sasuke and her reason for why she made the choice to confess to Naruto at that exact point and time. The reason she did confess to Naruto was to protect him and she did mean a-lot of the things she said to Naruto about why she loves him in the confession.
