Why is Sakura's smile heartbreaking? Dw i'm not emotionally void but just curious as to what people mean by it
I guess it's just the way Kishi draws,,, I looks as if she's smiling through pain.

that's it pretty much. that smile is pain and heartbreak.
Sakura knows, she knows now that she cant just trust to the two of them, she will have to make a choice.
And that choice one way or another is going to break her heart.

So loosing her "love" for sasuke will hurt her as much as hurting Naruto.... Sad

Well, I wouldn't think that way. I said she's smiling through pain because Team 7 just can't have those happy days forever because Sasuke is clearly on the other side. Well, his own side. Is it possible that there's more than that? Possibly, but for now, we know she lied and that's not good.

Here's the thing. Sakura continues to drag out her feelings for sasuke for no reason and is damaging her own character with it. I hate this idea that Sakura has to "choose" between them because Sasuke is not much of a choice and because we relate him as an alternative to Naruto it degrades Naruto to Sasuke's level.
It shouldn't be a choice at all
Posted 22 June 2013 - 05:51 PM
I don't know but I didn't see it that way. If she brings up about choice, then I'll understand. Right now, it's a lie that she trusts him. It can go deeper, but for now, just understand that she lied. I don't know what's next but like I said in debate thread, if this is Kishi way to end SS, do it now. It's the right time. Here's the thing. Sakura continues to drag out her feelings for sasuke for no reason and is damaging her own character with it. To me it seems that she isn't in a choice mode. If it comes to something she will help Naruto, but her feelings for Sasuke are still an issue. So maybe the moment when she stops loving Sasuke won't be the moment she will decide to go for Naruto. If we go by the themes her feelings for Sasuke dieing will only leave a hole in her heart. And that hole must be filled.

I think if Sakura moves on here, she won't go to Naruto immediately. I don't want to be like "Sasuke-Kun, I don't love you anymore. I love Naruto now." That sounds odd. I want her to drop it and enter a new phase: realization. Slowly builds up NS to the complete form. Again, it won't be like she chose him because she couldn't get Sasuke. If she flashbacks to part 1, that would indicate that she always love him, she just never realized it till now. In FMA, Winry remembers the young days of Ed and his character, all the way to recent. That way, it's not like Sakura loves Naruto because of one moment. But that's just me.To me it seems that she isn't in a choice mode. If it comes to something she will help Naruto, but her feelings for Sasuke are still an issue. So maybe the moment when she stops loving Sasuke won't be the moment she will decide to go for Naruto. This just makes Naruto second place prize (Or a hole filler) Degrades NS ...

That's what I thought too, with all due respect. This just makes Naruto second place prize (Or a hole filler) Degrades NS ...

I don't think that her choice degrades NS in any way. She's about to realize what real love means, and will chose it. Her crush on Sasuke is a negative love, which has been stated hundreds of times before. We haven't seen any signs of her showing that she loves him for a while, she didn't object to Minato's GF comment, she's still worries about Naruto the most, etc.
Sai made it clear: her words might be true, it's the smile that's fake. Of course she's glad that Sasuke is back, because that's what she wanted: team 7 reunion. She trusts him as long as Naruto does, IMO. It's clear with her expressions of doubt + this smile that she thinks that Sasuke is hiding something.

You're right in that it's not that OOC. What grates me is that a rather seminal moment in Sasuke's development and it's aftermath are relegated to joke status. What he did was a big deal and especially cold, but she appears to brush it off as no big deal when it is. Or at least should be. If he wanted to portray that devotion in a negative light. Fine. If he wanted righteous outrage from her. Fine. I'm just not fine with it being brushed off and treated as a joke, as if it's no big deal that he left her to die. And at no point is it shown to be a bad thing. I suppose he gets away with it because Karin is a minor character.
Imagine Sakura doing this crap. In fact, her infatuation is consistently portrayed as a bad thing, but at least he didn't he didn't try to kill her when she need him most and then leave her for dead in the middle of nowhere. Naruto already catches hell for this, but at least his devotion isn't turned into comedy fodder immediately after have slobber all over him.
I get what you're saying. And it is difficult to understand sometimes why Kishimoto chooses to do it. But like I said before, I think he's trying to show how utterly lacking Orochimaru and his followers -- including Sasuke -- are in terms of having a normal or functioning moral compass. He's got to distinguish their comparatively defective natures somehow, right?
Reader reaction to dismissal or even jokes about Sasuke's murderous brutality won't ever be the same as the reaction of characters within the story. In a world where children are frequently orphaned, have demons deliberately sealed inside them (by their parents, no less), and are groomed to be soldiers and assassins willing to take life whenever it is necessary, in my opinion it's not outrageous that the more obviously unethical characters would joke about murder attempts or maintain an ability to be attracted to or in love with someone who tried to kill them.
I mean, when Naruto saved Sakura from Sasuke's second attempt on her life, he didn't display a realistic degree of outrage either. That too was a big deal, a cold action against someone Sasuke once claimed as a friend and teammate, plus she's the girl Naruto loves. And while Naruto didn't joke about it he essentially brushed it off too, his only response being that Sakura is a part of Team 7 the same as he and Sasuke.
And even after Sasuke laughs maniacally and vows to cleanse the Uchiha by killing every last person in Konoha, Naruto goes on to say that he's really glad he met Sasuke, that he's still Sasuke's friend, and he hasn't given up on him. Naruto didn't joke the way the morally defective characters like Karin and Suigetsu did, but I view Naruto's response as just as dismissive and accepting of Sasuke's brutality.
I assume it's just meant to be part of the situational morality of the story, and why, as a rule, it doesn't bother me. It's the same reason why I don't expect Naruto to give Hinata some grand moment of open acknowledgement and gratitude for her feelings for him. If he can ignore Sasuke nearly killing the girl he loves, he can ignore giving unnecessary dramatic closure to a secondary character's romantic interest.
I think the mistake was going for the super gory, super serious injury. You can suffer significant injury without it looking like on the surface, you can suffer significant damage on the surface that looks worse than it is.
I agree. It's difficult to understand why Kishimoto made Tsunade's injury so graphic if all he was going to do was have Karin and Suigetsu -- of all characters -- show up, drag her lower half in place, and magically heal her in two or three panels. And then she's ready to rock and roll again, apparently none the worse for the experience.
It would be easier to believe if there had been more set up as to Karin's healing power. Maybe I missed it and it was perfectly explained. But even if she's an Uzumaki with a lot of vitality and longevity, it's pretty amazing that Karin had enough chakra (and of sufficient power) to so quickly and completely restore the world's greatest healer from the brink of death.
He's totally doomed.
Well, Gaara survived a second brush with death -- by riding on the coattails of Tsunade's lucky break -- so there's still hope that Kakashi will somehow survive as well.

Make a choice?
What choice does she have?
Do people really consider her siding with Sasuke?, it's doenst make sense, people really overthink about her smile, she was just lying whne in the end she was just hiding from the others that she doesnt trust Sasuke and it's more obvious to think she could be sad because they will fight against each other, she doesnt have any choices to make like Naruto or Sasuke.
It's like James also said, people do overthink about scenes that are clear and obvious, just like when Naruto said that Sakura was his girlfriend.

I dont think she will side with Sasuke, her smile is the only indicator there is conflict in team 7....ironically from sakura the one that always sided with sasuke, My guess is she's cautious but it's hurting her, she knows this wont last, so lets leave it at that I guess,
Most likely if Sasuke does try something Sakura will make the first move against him, either to confront him or prevent him from hurting someone

Yeah, like some would say that she is telling the truth but she fake her smile because she doesn't like Sasuke at all. That's a bit far though I would be shocked if that was true. Still, it's just that she lied, so let's go with this at the very least.
Yeah because it doesnt lead to any decision or choice, she just doesnt trust him, there's no pain or heartbreak because there's no confrontation, they will keep that until Sasuke his true colors and stuff, it's like inborn caution.
She looked at Sasuek on 634 and she wasnt sad she was like calm and confident like before when he first arrived, she knows that he has a plan and she doesnt know and she will keep her inborn caution, in the moment she's more worried about Naruto than her feelings or whatever because if she would be sad would be certainly the fact that Naruto and Sasuke will fight to death like she was worried before the war arc.

I just doesnt feel that being cautious is hurting her, she give a fake smile but mostly to hide from the others her distrust on Sasuke she did that before and the reasons are the same not let others to bother with that, she did that with Sai, Lee and many other people and this didnt hurt her, like i said what did hurt her was the thought of Naruto and Sasuke fighting to death and a possible Naruto's death.
She can heal fatal wounds and have a jutsu to do that maybe could give her a moment where she can save Naruto but wont damsel in distress and die.
But would be also a problem because Naruto told her to not get involved on his fight with Sasuke.
What hurts her is the Naruto x Sasuke conflict not her untrustyfull feelings for Sasuke, she even cried on the first fight and tried to get in the middle to prevent and would have died if wanst Kakashi.

You could say she was hurt by her own words because it could be the fact that her words are something that she would like to say but it's not going to happen. Maybe ever, but we'll see. It's like how Tsunade believed that Jiraiya will come home safe because she bet that he will die, but you can tell her face that she's very worried that he may die after all. So in this case, she lied because she knows herself that Sasuke is not to be trusted at all, so she's ready. I can't debate why she lied to Sasuke but maybe we'll get more in the next chapter.Yeah because it doesnt lead to any decision or choice, she just doesnt trust him, there's no pain or heartbreak because there's no confrontation, they will keep that until Sasuke his true colors and stuff, it's like inborn caution.
