Shikamaru and Sakura are both the smartest academically wise, and they do seem to respect one another a lot. However, I can't recall anything other than formal interactions between them. Sakura definitely has a playful, and outgoing side but I don't think that Shikamaru really would bring out that out in her, which would be a shame.

When Naruto and Sakura are together, there is a often lot of playfulness and light hearted-ness between the two. Their personalities mesh much better, imo, than Sakura and Shikamaru's.

Heh. But I agree that ShikaTema is the best. But I like the nicely balanced arguments of the strengths and weaknesses of ShikaSaku. I think Shikamaru and Sakura would be more compatible than Ino and Shikamaru though personality wise. Ino being the Alpha dominant type is too much a turn off. Temari is more the assertive type like Sakura, but she knows how to snark back at Shikamaru when he makes those kind of comments. Sakura would just get hacked off and glare at him. Ino doesn't have the snark skills either. Plus both Ino and Sakura like the PDA (public displays of affection) too much. Shikamaru looks to have been influenced by Asuma, although less self-conscious when questioned, he prefers his romantic relationships to be a private thing. Temari seems to be more of the same mindset- likely more open to being public about it than Shikamaru, but still mostly private.

^^ So, just to make to clarify, Shikamaru likes his relationships to be a private thing, right? Something like, not mixing business with pleasure. Which would make sense, since Asuma and Kurenai's relationship with each other was really private. I mean, I had no clue that they were canon together, other than the usual subtleties hints and stuff like that.

So the question would be, would Sakura be the kind of girl to take relationships public and why?

I guess, she was never shy of showing Naruto affection regardless of who was watching even when they weren't together. She hugged him in front of the whole village and told him she loved him not bothering if a few of treir friends were watching and listening.
Narutp seems to be like her in that way so I guess they wouldn't shy away from PDA and everybody knowing they were together and happy.

Exactly- look how far she looked to be heading in chapter 343- had not Sai interupted- (which she showed at minimum annoyance about- she had her hand in a fist directed at Sai while Naruto was shouting about Sai "ruining the mood". Sakura sure didn't disagree. And when Kakashi walked in making a teasing comment about it "sure being lively" Sakura had a look on her face like she had been caught doing something naughty. (which as far as what she looked to be planning was definitely shading that way...)

Hmmmm, all righty then, I guess that means is that when Naruto and Sakura are officially together then it wouldn't have to be private and awkward and that they can naturally be themselves which is basically what a relationship should be based on, being yourself naturally with the one you love. Thank you guys for the reasonings.

Right, back to shikasaku, well, I wonder if there would be some points, where Shikamaru won't find things in the relationship to be troublesome?

Sakura tends to be a bit more intellectual about things but I think honestly shed find Shikamaru boring as hell. Shed respect his intellect and his own determination but motivating him is just not something I can see her signing up for in a relationship.

With Naruto theres more of an emotional balance. Naruto reacts to things oft emotionally and sometimes badly but always direct and honest. But he reacts and so does Sakura who while more reserved can be just as direct and emotional in ehr outbursts as weve seen throughout the series.

Shikamarus laz faire attitude towards pretty much everything would inevtiably drive her insane, where as with naruto she has an outlet for her emotions.

Yeah, I think the most ShikaSaku has going for it is the intellectual level and their loyalty. Beyond that, she has much more in common with Naruto.

Both she and Naruto want acknowledgement, they were very vocal about their interests from the start, Sakura secretly enjoyed Naruto's pranks, they are both slightly perverted (aka sexy no jutsu...), they many times react the same way (especially when complaining about Kakashi), both are unable to accept defeat (as pointed out by Kakashi), and they are both super protective of one another. I could go on, but I think I'll just stop there XD

And I do believe that Sakura is a closet pervert, and on the basis I've read some pretty good fanfics where Sakura plays a good pervert and she seems more fun than regular Sakura.

Yeah, when Naruto's trick worked on Kakashi. Inner Sakura was excited about it while outwardly Sakura was scolding him XD

And I do believe that Sakura is a closet pervert, and on the basis I've read some pretty good fanfics where Sakura plays a good pervert and she seems more fun than regular Sakura.

For yaoi, she wasn't even in the closet about liking it

They make good friends but yeah, romantically they are very different. I could see Naruto choosing the two of them as advisers when he becomes Hokage- then having moments where Sakura and Shikamaru are having a calm and lengthy discussion on the merits of the strengths and weaknesses in various policy decision choices and Naruto falls asleep or sneaks out for ramen because he got bored.

^^ Hehehe, I would love to imagine stuff like that and then Sakura would find out, beat the crap out of Naruto, and drag and get him back and interested into the meeting again and repeat the process again, until whatever is talked about is talked about.

Well take it from karins character

shes assertive --just this shy of bossy-- with the guy she likes and out right bossy with someone she doesnt like--suigetsu--

Shes strong and doesnt back down from anyone--Ibiki, sasuke, madara--she doesnt take any guff and we know Naruto likes that in a gal.

Lastly she has an insight thats unmatched and unlike a certain princess when she says she understands your pain she means it. Plus she shares a similar tragedy in that she lost her village and thus everyone she knew at a young age.

lastly she and naruto can share a common bond in their regards for Sasuke as a common pain.

So weve established a common bond, compatible personality from karin at least. and we know traits that both find attractive.

Unless Karin reveals she is in fact an Uzumaki descendant, or a pure-blooded Uzumaki, I don't see anything for those two. On the other hand, if she is an Uzumaki, the only thing I see is Karin chasing Naruto around which would freak him out as hell. I could see Karin saying they should start reviving the Uzumaki clan, and make babies right now. That would be hilarious.

Nah, sorry still don't see it. catsi, you make valid points but it think they can't 'click' even if she has some similar traits. Karin would be too aggressive, and I think she would find Naruto too mellow. I think she would like someone 'stronger'.
So we can keep discussing NaruKarin but you guys can also tell me your thoughts on ItaSaku. I tend to ship them, too. (oh, and let's imagine he isn't dead, shall we? )

I'll have to admit I have read a few fanfics on this ship. So lets say Itachi didnt kill his whole clan maybe something could happen between Sakura and Itachi.
