I don't know....Aang seems a bit more subdued, but still seems faithful to the series though....

And he says that this would only be the *first* Airbender movie of a possible three! wow.png

I'm sure there's comedic moments, the trailer just needed to look all 'dramatic' tongue.gif

And it worked! The action so far looks pretty kicka$$ to me wow.png

There's instances in the trailer where it looks like some of it'll take place in the Northern Water Tribe where Katara learns waterbending near the end of Book of Water.
Not the least of which the appearance of Princess Yue....
So it's most likely they'll make the 2nd movie Book of Earth, etc....

Just looked up the cast list.... Looks like Yen Sid from the recent Iron Man movie's been reincarnated as Iroh! XD

It looks too serious and is lacking any of the humor.

To be honest, I don't think most of the humor in the cartoon would work well in a live-action medium. Sokka might still be a goof-ball to some extent, but if they went full-on like they did in the cartoon, I think it would just look ridiculous and a step closer to DragonBall Evolution.

You can't deny, though, the series had some pretty powerful drama too, and this movie seems like it will capture it very well.

I do wonder one thing:

WHEN WILL WE SEE A GOOD SHOT OF APPA AND MOMO!?

Agreed with Kodachi, the brief shot of Appa in the Super Bowl TV spot wasn't enough....and where's Momo?? Maybe still working on the CGI Model?

Both those trailers were awesome! I can't believe anyone saw Appa in the corner of that shot, I would have never found it! omfg.gif
I'm sure there are humerous parts but the movie is mostly drama so they are showing that in the trailers.
That little clip of Katara talking to Aang reminded me of the emo-Katara in the play from season three 111189.gif

LOL, hell no. Not even close. If Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars couldn't do it...then, yeah, no.

Yeah, James Cameron's Avatar broke 2.24 billion in gross revenue and is still raking in money. We'll honestly be lucky if all three movies breaks that. And just a comparison all 6 star wars movies had a gross revenue of 4.3 billion. Just to give some perspective.

NO. PHUCKIN. WAY.

I doubt all 3 movies will make up to that, if of course 3 movies are made.

Well, we have to consider: Avatar is just a movie that came out with no real fanbase connected to each other other than "OH MAH GAWD GO SEE THIS", and we also have to consider and average in people re-seeing the movie over and over again (I've seen it happen). Will The Last Airbender's established fanbase from the main show attract some form of challenge? I think it might, if M. Night pulls off a good movie.

Cameron has a kind of effect. When people here James Cameron, it becomes a MUST SEE.

The Last Airbender depends on it being a REALLY good movie, and the fanbase getting more people out to watch it.

Plus the fact that many fans are skeptical if someone with Night's reputation can pull it off, and many are still upset over the casting choices (I myself am still a bit miffed on that issue). It will really depend on the look of the movie, how well Night can condense Season 1 into a 2 hour movie without making it look convoluted, and how well critics will receive it, especially with the casting. I'm sure that reviewers who are not familiar with the series will look at this, notice the asian elements, and ask "What's up with all the white people?", and knock off a couple of points for that, therefore turning off a more mainstream audience, even if the fan base for the most part forgives the studio.

Even if it's not the PC thing to say, I've very irritated with the casting choice. Especially Katara and Sokka. Two of my favorite characters.

I agree considering how the characters were developed they are being very racist if you ask me

Katara & Sokka should be either native american, black, or dark hispanic
Aang should be asian
Zuko well... it really wouldn't matter to much I guess

Productions are racist and the many people will see that rather or not they are avatar fans.

I agree to an extent. Plus I'm a little disappointed with Zuko's scar, I think it should be more visible and outstanding.

It's even more pathetic when Paramount PUBLICLY stated that they prefered the protagonists to be white and for the Fire Nation to be made up of various dark-skinned people. I really have to ask the executives what are they thinking? I don't think it's intentionally racist, but I do have to wonder if they understood the themes the show was centered around. Hollywood can just sometimes be so slow and stupid when it comes to these things. So many action movies have Kung Fu, Will Smith is one of the highest grossing actors, sports is dominated by black people (including golf and the WINTER olympics now!), Harold and Kumar have so many fans...hell, we have a BLACK PRESIDENT (yes, I know not all of us voted for him, but Will Smith himself said that if Obama's election was turned into a movie script, no studio in Hollywood would have even considered making it). On top of that, M. Night Shamylan himself is a person of color, and whatever you may think of his movies, studios keep giving him projects for a reason: They seem to be making money! So, Hollywood, when are you going to get it, that the people who watch your movies do not care what the color of the actor's skin is? The only people who WOULD make a fuss about that will never watch your films for various other reasons anyway.

On top of that, for how hard they're trying to make the Fire Nation look dark, the actor who is going to play Avatar Roku is white. Okay...does this mean Dev Patel is going to have to bleach his skin for the third movie?

And for me, it's not so much getting the right ethinicites for the characters as it is to making me buy these actors as playing those characters. For example: I think Dev Patel is better suited for playing Sokka! I still can't see him as the Zuko I know; I keep seeing the poor little Indian boy in Slumdog Millionaire (which to my knowledge also did well) getting his ass whooped! Aang, on the other hand, I will let slide, because they got Noah to LOOK LIKE HIM. Simple as that! The same reason why I'm excited about the Prince of Persia movie; I can buy that dude as the Prince of Persia I played. Heck, Shauna here is more qualified to play Katara than that girl!

I know I'm making it sound like I'm going to hate this movie, but I do think it will be a lot of fun. I just think that for even the most forgiving Avatar fans, the obvious racial bias is going to prevent us from giving this movie a perfect score.
