Ah, that's another thing I've wanted to ask you! You're from Japan right? I've heard that One Piece has dominated Naruto in terms of popularity from within Japan (Naruto has a larger market outside Japan), I was just wondering what the consensus is in Japan when the two are compared with each other? If you've ever come across that, of course.

I'll try to quote it when I come across it. I used to see some Naruto fans making mock OP threads and OP fans doing vice versa but now I don't see them. The fandoms itself used to have some rivalry with each other but then Naruto's manga quality became really bad and extended that I think not many defended Naruto manga anymore.

No lies, but this interview was so inspiring that it's no wonder his work has been at the top for decades. This is how you hit homerun with Shounen crowd. This is why the sales is the highest. This is why it was place top 10 when being ranked top manga in whatever year. This is why.

Thank goodness. I was dreading Hinata's name to come up on that list. Ironically, it actually does, but it's the name of another character from another anime.

It's a shame that such a lovable character has to have "Hinata" as his last name. I cringe everytime I hear the players call out his last name (Japanese people often call each other by their last names which really sucks in this case, lol).

 

I went over this list just to make sure Hinata wasn't on it

Thanks! I've seen the war myself on US forums, so I wouldn't be surprised that there was a fandom war in Japan. Anything will do regarding the comparisons. I wonder if the sales of OP will benefit due to the terrible ending of Naruto.

One Piece might look a generic, "childish" shonen manga, but it's really not that case. And yes, it's best to see it with your own eyes.

I saw the first episode, and I absolutely did not like Onedera (or whatever her freakin name is).

I generally dislike female moe characters with a few exceptions.

You won't be disappointed! I know you said you have some reservations with the art, but I honestly love it lol. Part of the appeal of the art is that it seems to me like Oda really works hard at creating his own world, and the art reflects that. A lot of people look strange and different, and it creates this adventurous feel to it, to me it help bring me to his world and immerse me in it.

Plus, even if you don't necessarily favor the art, the story more than makes up for it. As you've seen in the interview, Oda does things his way, and the story reflects that as it maintains the same style of writing for the duration of the entire series. He really delivers story wise.

Also, if you're interested, I found where you can watch TG uncensored. It only has the first 6 episodes, but I suppose that's a start.

Oh, btw guys, for that character poll I've posted, I think this only includes anime characters who were in animes from last year. So basically, Hinata was not qualified to be on that list (I still doubt she would have been on that list though if the rules had changed a bit).

I love One Piece. I was all over it and still love it today. If you recall, I always brag about making an impact in the fights in this series. Because I was basing off from One Piece. The villain will show you why they're the biggest piece of kitten ever, the backstory will give you a reason to care heavily, and all in all ends in a really satisfying way. I always remember the weight of everything back in Alabasta Arc. It feels like everything was just a climax and when the endpoint reached, it's like a new day has arrived.

There's a lot of stuff that I can talk about days. The flashback is the best part and a lot of them are really emotional and put you in their world to makes you happy to be part of it...or even mad. I noticed that one character keep getting a revisited arc in anime world, though I know exactly why and really, it was the first that I cried so much. It was the best put together of hated people, lovable people, and corrupted life that everyone just has to live.

Dammit, now I love One Piece even more...

As for Junko leaving the Naruto franchise, it may be simply a matter of them replacing her for an older male voice actor. Like how Aang, Katara, Toph and Zuko were treated in LoK. Their roles in the series were minimal, but when they had to speak it was always with a deeper, older voiced actor.

 

Sure her contract might be up, and certainly she might be expressing her opinion by refusing to continue voicing Naruto. But it could be that she knows an older male actor will be voice Naruto from now on, so she feels free to be a little more relaxed in letting her opinions show.

 

Because I would think that if she knew she were continuing on, she would be quietly supportive of the series, even though she felt differently. At any rate, she wouldn't want to seen as a VA who let's her personal feelings get in the way. That's terribly unprofessional.

 

I think either she is being replaced by an older male VA, or she knows her role — Naruto's role — is being drastically reduced in the new era. And basically, it is. Naruto's story is over. We know he's a dead-beat dad, so he won't be prevalent in Bolt's life until the very end of the series. So it's conceivable that Naruto will only be voiced a fraction of the time.

^^ One thing Kishi mentioned in regards to the mini series is that he couldn't wait to depict Naruto as a father. Pretty sure he'll have a significant role in that spin-off.

Ah. Well, I don't remember seeing those posts then. Even though Junko voiced him at the end of the movie, honestly at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they swapped her out for the series. Precedent and continuity means nothing to them. 

 

It could also be that the Junko is takng this opportunity to renegotiate her contract. Anyway, I doubt we'll ever know for sure. She'll either be doing Naruto again, or she won't. Like I said, nothing would surprise me now.

I do think a lot of people have started to appreciate Oda a lot more. It always surprised me why Naruto is SO popular in US compared to OP. But then again, OP is about pirates and people are used to pirates. Whereas, Naruto is about ninjas, the concept is so new it must have attracted a lot of attention.
