Pokemon also has a highly regarded manga series of it's own, so yeah I understand how it wasn't the greatest of references. As for Sonic, Sega's biggest problem is they diverge too far from what made Sonic's games likiable, his speed and platforming. It's fine to try an get innovative, but it has to be able to incorporate both of those features. With how well Sonic Colors and Generations were received, I just can't believe they didn't try to work off what made those games great. There biggest selling point as of recent is just Sonic's name and their ungodly ability to never fail at soundtracks.

I know Sonic Colours received positive reviews. It's nothing too spectacular, but it seems to be considered a good game in fans'eyes overall. Oddly enough, Sonic Generations seems to be a play at the old classics but it gained only mixed to average reivews from what I'm reading. Strange...

But if what you say is true, they managed to earn some of their old respect back by going back to their roots and appealing to what defined Sonic in the first place. Pierrot and Kishi's approach is to distance Naruto as much as possible from who he was, which is a completely opposite method.
 

I suppose that's a good way of looking at it. I don't specifically know what it's box office sales are though...all I remember was it managed to top RTN's first week revenue.

Not a good sign. Although we can't forget that a lot of its revenue stems from nonrefundable ticket sales and fradulent advertising.

Just 2 things:

1. No matter what NH fans say Kishimoto has basically confirmed that NH isn't based off true love, or mutal feelings, or even real development. It based off pity and guilt. I know the interview was fake, but if Naruto does become this abusive husband to Hinata I would laugh so hard and wonder whether or not the NH would try to cover that one up too. (I don't like domestiv abuse, but the irony of them hating on Sakura for all the so called abuse she gave Naruto, but saying that Naruto doing it to their precious Hinata is okay tickles my curiosity) I do wonder how far would they let Naruto as a character get away with against Hinata and if NH would still close their eyes and plug their ears to the truth

2. Many people like Obito, many people hate Obito, but personally speaking....do you think it is sad that Obito was actually a better man that Naruto? Okay, think about this just for a moment. Yeah, he did some horrible things and I am not saying he didn't, but Obito has never once denied his own feelings, denied that his love for Rin was real, and even did things for the sake of her and continue to feel the exact same way. Yeah, he "forgot" himself from his pain, but here Naruto forgot himself for a pity and guilt relationship. What is worse? Obito wouldn't even give up either until Rin was happy even when she was dead, he stilled believed in her even if he stopped beliving in himself.

It is ironic how Obito, who many say is a scumbag for all the murders he did, is actually less of a scumbag than Naruto because he didn't abandon his true feelings or lived a life of a lie. He just lost his way in the darkness.

They should have had more faith in their fans. It's likely that the movie would have gained a profit even without the lack of refunds. If not through their Japanese fandom then by the cumulative gains from international releases and DVD sales.

If Hinata's kittenboy does abuse her I'm sure the NH fans would hate him. They'll send hate letters to SP demanding a new replacement to be Hinata's kittenboy and Voila! You have a new canon movie where Hinata's love interest no. 3 beats the kitten out of Hinata's kittenboy aka final villain aka The worst scumbag and then Hinata's love interest no. 3 and Hinata live happily ever after.

There's still a lot of ambiguity regarding what the spin-off will be about. In a post-war world where the nations have forged long-term military and political alliances with each other, you would assume that the reasons for conflict would be almost completely eradicated. There's not even much incentive to continue the shinobi traditions aside from just wanting to preserve them for cultural and historical reasons. No villains or enemies means no combat. An uninspiring cast of characters that no one cares for is being introduced to reboot the story.

Is there anyone on 2chan that is actually looking forward to the spin-off manga?

Even the manga is heartbreaking. Why? T.T I want to whine and cry and ask the mangaka to reverse the ending. I want a happy ending.

Which means this is either going to be the most boring series of all time....or the cheesiest, cheapest excuse to create conflict.

Like the creationg of Toneri, you create villains just to push something forward. Not really a means to strengthen th story or the characters. A "plot hole" so to speak where something just comes out of nowhere to make cheap drama.

Not every ending is happy. I liked it as how it is.
