Let's see how detached they feel when it impacts the turnout for their next film at the theatre. You've read the information from 2chan that Ramen has posted, yes? A number of people have become weary to Pierrot's marketing tactics. They won't be so easily persuaded to support a plot and characters that they've grown to detest as a result of this film.

I suppose that's a viable way to look at it, I'm just wondering seeing how these people still are seeing the movie in fairly decent bunches. Normally when a movie gets a poor review by a majority, it starts dropping in sales. If it magically makes less then RTN, then they have a real problem. If it makes about the same or more they probably aren't gonna worry much...

 

I mean it may seem odd, but Pokemon consistently has been dropping in movie sales and yet they still come out with a new one every year in the summer season.

Pokemon still has the video game franchise to earn them revenue. Why they continue to make films and the anime though? I don't know. It's similar to the Sonic franchise that's been garnering mostly negative to mediocre ratings for the past decade. No matter how badly their product performs, they just continue to churn it out for whatever reason.

Don't forget, this film's production value is much higher compared to RtN's. Even if it eventually outpaces the previous movie, if it doesn't earn more than the total budget and expenses that were sacrificed to create it, there won't be a profit for the studio. Although I doubt finances will be much of a concern to them. The Last has apparently earned more than RtN already at the box office, and it's still being prepped for international release in four different countries.
