Nami is important to Luffy because they're Nakama. He values all of his crew, remember? Nami is important because she's the navigator, and Luffy doesn't know what the hell he's doing on the sea. The same reason that Chopper is important because he's the doctor, or Sanji is important because he's the chef.

Don't go looking for shipping where there isn't any. It just leads to heartbreak.

That's why I said I wouldn't hold my breath for it..... but it still strikes me as odd. If he REALLY had no intention of doing that, then why did he write things that could imply serious shipping??

He implied nothing. You're viewing things through Shipping Goggles. Not everything has a deeper meaning.

That's true, but like I said before, WHY??? why would he draw something that he knew could imply serious shipping if he didn't intend to at all?? If you believe that there's no implication of that shipping please give me valid reasons. If I were him, I would have drawn the strawhats disappearing one by one playing in his mind. Oda is the type that likes to take his time drawing, so I think that If I were him I would've done that.

It doesn't seriously imply shipping. It doesn't imply anything. It's just a panel that accentuates Luffy's feelings of powerlessness, nothing more. Nami was just the person Oda-sensei chose to show it.

That doesn't feel like a good answer. If that's so, how about Zoro?? he's the vice-captain & the first crew member. Or how about Usopp?? (just throwing this one out here). Is Oda the type of writer to throw in some random stuff to throw off the readers, anyway??

Oda-sensei has stated that there will be no romance between Straw Hats. 597 chapters without a single real hint of it pretty much confirms it. But believe what you want.

Really?? any proof of that?? (interviews, fanbooks, databooks, etc.) I'll take your word for it. But there's a possibility he wanted to test it out. He probably wanted to see if it could go well with the story. Therefore trying it out to see if it's feasible for the story.

^Its actually one of the 2 pilot chapters that where written before the real chapter 1 and isn't in the actual story I believe. Its on page 15 Pilot chapter

well, if he did want romance between the strawhats, not saying there is, nami and luffy do have a bit of evidence. despite not being much of a romantic, he has said that nami was good looking and at the end of the alabasta arc, he did try to sneak a peek at nami in the baths. and when she finally did show her goodies to him, he died of a nose bleed. he had no such reaction to hancock's nude body. but that's just my thoughts.

That's exactly what I thought as well. It's so strange he would get a nosebleed from peeping on Nami but didn't when he saw Hancock's stuff.

EDIT: Ok, I reread Arlong park arc again & Nami also has an adopted relative (mother) who was killed right in front of her eyes. Now if this is ain't a parallel to Luffy then I don't know what is. Also, the part when Luffy gave his hat to Nami when he doesn't anyone else touching can be taken two ways: 1. Luffy accepts Nami as one of his nakama. 2. Luffy doesn't just accept her, he also places great trust in her. Making her the member that Luffy trusts the most. It's not something romantic, I agree but the amount of trust he has in her is similar to the deep trust in NaruSaku.

Only one more week of waiting for the new chapter of One Piece Yay ! I hope the chapter will be more then 20 pages to explain all the changes that have happened in 2 years!

Has it been four weeks yet? Also by four weeks does it mean we don't get Manga for three weeks and continues on the fourth, or no Manga for four weeks and we get Manga on the fifth week?

As for pairing, I think up until Water Seven Oda was hinting towards a possible Nami/Luffy pairing, He's saved her in some form another in nearly all the arcs leading to Water seven, she's worn the hat more times than anyone else apart Luffy and Shanks and that is his most priced possesion, and as far as I know no one else has ever worn the hat she's worn it thrice. Plus she's the Navigator and Luffy would quite literally be lost without her as his sense of direction is the worst from the crew after Zoro

But even since the Water Seven Arc I don't think there's been any hints for any pairing, Unless you count the way Nami screamed Luffy name when she was being wisked away to the Weatheria, and how she was crying for Luffy when she read the newspaper, but that's could also be taken as a nakama caring for her captain. So unless we see some major changes after the timeskip I doubt we'll see any pairing...which is a shame because I really like the idea of Namii and Luffy, maybe even more so than Naruto/Sakura.

And not to mention Ace's death parallels Bellemere's death (Nami and Nojiko's foster mother). I do think Oda is planning for LuNa. He's just not quite sure how to go about it. He drops little hints here and there, but doesn't feel ready for it yet. I think he may be planning something for them in part 2. I've got a feeling that if Oda does decide to add in a bit of romance in part 2, it is likely that he was influenced by Kishi. He may have been observing Kishi all this time, when he was developing N/S. Of course, just as long as he doesn't repeat Kishi's mistake of instigating a pairing war.

I just readed the pilot, and damn, Its just so much better than the actual series, the simple fact that Luffy is more level headed here makes the story more interesting to read.
