It's amazing to watch a bunch of children, the entire generation of relevant characters, enter into a profession that appears to have completely lost its place. Kishimoto has them become ninja because...well, what else are they going to do that's worth reading about?
Some stories end in ways where sequels make sense. There are plot thread or potential plot threads. Some don't. That they entire generation enters into a profession that has no clear role or purpose, do so in an era of peace, and do so despite the open complaint about young people doing this in the last arc is a great sign this story is not set up for a sequel.
Unless, Kishimoto is going to trash the world that Naruto built, what else is there except slice of life stuff?
They are ninja because Kishimoto has nothing else he can do for them that anyone will give a crap about. Because it end with the world saved and completely changed for the better there aren't a lot of places to go.

Yes, it is.
Not anymore mate.
Which I've told you - time and time again - is dangerous! There will never be consensus, son, among those you have helped to ascend. They will all differ in their views of what it means to be free. The peace you so desperately seek does not exist.
These men are united now by a common cause. But when this battle is finished they will fall to fighting amongst themselves about how best to ensure control. In time it will lead to war. You will see.

In this new world order, the only reasons for maintaining the antiquated martial system of shinobi indoctrination would have to do with their historical and cultural significance to the village. Sure, you might still have the typical D and C rank missions that need completing to help the economy, but the days of assassinating high level political/military leaders or being confronted by anything more dangerous than some vagabonds/highwayman/thieves out on the road are long gone.

A ninja manga doesn't always mean action manga. There's a slice of life ninja manga.
Could've fooled me, I thought it was a poor excuse of soap opera
In naruto case, it's a soap opera manga.

the thing is, that its illogical for them being ninjas in first place
Even the Salad points it out in first gaiden chapter

naruto has multiple generes
part 1 is shounen
part 2 is shounen until chapter 699, then it changed the genere to horror
Naruto - the last is shoujo
And naruto Gaiden even created a whole new genere, ist called the "Jerry Springer" genere. Pretty impressive, huh?

Dunno, Rtn level? So how involved is Kishi with this movie? If it's mostly SP's work, then we might see more NH then in Gaiden

How involved did Kishi confess to being with this new movie? I doubt he wants to be writing Naruto continually for the rest of his life. Judging by the substandard quality of writing and art over the past few years, his dedication and interest was already deteriorating considerably since around 2012. It wouldn't surprise me if the recent spin-off was extorted out of him through contractual obligations or by a heavy sum of money being offered for an extension to the original series. Once it ends, his involvement will likely be kept to a minimum as he begins to push away from the worn and torn series to focus on new projects while Pierrot or some other company gets the creative rights to Naruto.
