I wouldn't really consider Sakura's confession a "failfession". I really don't see what else Kishi could have done to convey it in a more convincing manner. To me the majority of the backlash was just business as usual. A large part of the fandom hates Sakura and so they will use any excuse to bash her.
I'm not saying that Sakura's actions were 100% right. She could have handled the situation better. She tried to put Naruto well being before herself and she was even willing to throw away her and Naruto's friendship. To be honest I see it as one of her best moments in the entire series.
Yes I actually didn't understand why the fandom was so angry at Sakura for her confession. It was bound to happen. Her mistake was in comparing Naruto to Sasuke and using her confession as a double whammy to stop the former from chasing the latter. But Sakura was only doing everything in her power to stop Naruto's Sasuke-obsession to keep Naruto safe because well...she loves him. People miss the point of that.
Yeah it was clumsy and badly timed but I don't believe Sakura was lying. Naruto just didn't believe her and for understandable reasons.
