We can disregard the eye gazing, but from a reader's standpoint, the totality of the evidence still seems to suggest that the author wants Ichihime to happen. Unlike in Naruto, we aren't told Ichigo is in love with anyone. We aren't told Rukia is in love with anyone.
Really, Ii there a single moment in all 686 chapters where we're told Rukia is in love with Ichgio? Even one? I can think of multiple times where that is explicitly stated for Orihime and one time where it's explicitly stated for Renji (albeit somewhat vague with the whole "getting us back together" comment). 
 
So it's:
 
Ichigo x Rukia: Gazing at each other eyes a few times, some camaraderie before Hueco Mundo arc when Rukia gets demoted in terms of relevance.
 
Ichigo x Orihime: Gazing at each others eyes a few times, camaraderie throughout the entire series, multiple confirmations of love from Orihime, and an explicit confession from Orihime.
 
Renji x Rukia: Gazing at each other eyes, camaraderie from Hueco Mundo arc to final story arc, explicit relationship ("getting us back together" comment).
 
Ishida x Orihime: Pure headcanon
 
That's how I see things. And I again. I don't think it's well written. I don't think anything post-soul society is well written. That being said, there were solid clues to let us know it was gonna happen. Nothing like the Naruto ending.
 
If this series were to have stopped at Soul Society, I'd see where you were coming from. But we get some things in Hueco Mundo and the 1000 war arc that more or less seal the deal.

Rukia and Ichigo didn't need it spelled out, it's implied. There were many things after the SS arc that implied it. Starting off with, but not limited to, the fact that Rukia was consistently the only one that "made his rain go away". There was nothing that Orihime could do about that, it was always Rukia.

Also, just because Orihime loved Ichigo means that he's obligated to love her back? There was nothing from him, nor from Rukia in regards to Renji, that even suggested that they had feelings for their partners. Renji's comment had nothing to do with romance, it was all about how he felt a debt to Ichigo because before Ichigo beat his ass, Renji and Rukia hadn't talked for half a century. Renji was even ready to watch her die without a care in the world, because of spite.

Undeveloped is an understatement for those ships.

My heart can't take it if Fairy Tale ends this way with a lackluster ending and pairing that make no sense. Someone at Shoen Jump has a lot of explaining to do with the way they have framed these two underdeveloped pairings that lack any chemistry or damatic.

Is from another forum, but the thing said holds true. Credit goes to Catalyst75 for telling how it is.

Let me put their (IR Fans) grievance into perspective:

Fifteen years of developing Ichigo and Rukia’s bond; an entire movie dedicated to it; color pages showing the two characters together, and multiple poems for them, including two that give their bond the titles “The Story of Destiny”, and “The Two that Share Destiny”.

But come the final chapter of the series, it is the busty Human girl who pined for Ichigo since the beginning of the series who gets him, despite being afraid of him at one point in the Hueco Mundo arc, and crying for his half-dead body to save her in another part of it.

By all accounts, the fact that Rukia and Ichigo had no meaningful character interactions in the final arc, instead sticking them with Renji and Inoue, respectively, implies that Kubo realized that the only way to make the ending pairings “believable” was to effectively demean and diminish Ichigo and Rukia’s interactions and bonds outright in the final arc.

This is not some bratty whiny over shipping wars; this is Kubo giving a big “F*** YOU!” to the people who watched the bond between Ichigo and Rukia develop and grow throughout the story, with all the material Kubo himself made supporting being thrown away along with all of it.

Didn't Rukia said something on the lines of her not being allowed to visit the human world due to her age? So this is the first time she would visit them.

Even if IR happened it would've been the same exact way.Two friends just suddenly being a couple who never showed romantic feelings towards each other. Yes, their dynamic was great but people can be friends without even gaining romantic feelings for each other.

 

Ichigo is NOT obligated to return Orihime's feelings and but they had their moments hence that last IchiHime moment in the last battle where he was telling her not to be afraid and that it's him. Stop comparing this to NH were Naruto was genjutsued into liking Hinata. The manga got cancelled and he obviously didn't have time to do on an on screen confession( which could have made a world of difference).

 

If IR had actually had feelings for each other like NS well I would be inclined to say that the parings were crap and IR deserved to be together but they never showed anything but friendship for each other and Ichigo is more likely to accept the feelings of the girl who always healed him and went to Heuco Mundo to try and save them. The girl who gave up her life  knowing she would never see them again. The girl who wore her heart on her sleeve for all her friends and cared about literally everything.

Sorry if I (and some others) don't fall for that. So yeah, you will keep hearing it.

Actually Bleach was one of the manga I read because the story was pretty good up to a certain point. The ending was awkward for a lot of people not just the shippers. And please dont get upset because others are upset over a pairing im sure you have been in those shoes before.

Can someone explain the mess? I don't get it. Is it about shipping or plot?

For me...its the plot, unanswered questions and the unnecessary foreshadowing some characters got like Karin but never was it brought to fruition. I was fine with the pairings because everyone is still friends though how they ended up wasn't satisfying and some characters are missing. I hope there is no continuation.

Actually Bleach was one of the manga I read because the story was pretty good up to a certain point. The ending was awkward for a lot of people not just the shippers. And please dont get upset because others are upset over a pairing im sure you have been in those shoes before.

I agree with this. 

 

I will defend my ship but I'm not going to rub IH in the faces of IR. NH did it to us and that made me feel like kitten. Having a nice debate is ok.

Hell I shipped both pairing and even I thought it was awkward so it's not just because lol Ichigo X Rukia didn't become cannon. It felt rushed and the fight just wasn't up to par with his usual stuff..

Kubo is a fantastic manga artist though. I love the look of his characters now. I wouldn't mind reading another manga of his that is planned out nicely.
