Well it safe to say that after 2010, kishi give up on sakura thus give up on NS. That's why we never get any follow up after her confession. I believe sakura confession will be mention in naruto confession.

Sakura's confession turned out to be quite a plothole too, after a confession like that its expected for things to be a little strange between them and in the end it was never referenced again.

I guess it was supposed to be referenced at Naruto's confession but alas in the end Kishi changed his plans and created just another permanent plothole

That's true. Sadly, he had a good one. All he had to do is:

 

- Remove or change the argument from stopping Sasuke to something else that pretty much talks about Naruto's safety.

- Ended Sakura's love for Sasuke since end of part 1 like it was once.

- After Pain Arc, go all the way with NS.

 

Really simple.

Mizuki kawakittena is a she. She's a shonen jump mangaka. A romantic comedy specialize. I think that art represent NS. If not, she will put sasuke and kakashi thus make a team seven. Or just naruto and sasuke.

Instead she put NS.

Of course not. Maybe it would have been much sooner, but Pain Arc was simple though fun one.
 
Damn, that moment really hurt me when I read that part. Actually, many people at NF was like "Oh wow. Kishi, you sexist bastard. Now Sakura is complete useless." I remember this day still. I mean how everything that was planned got deleted all the sudden.

Kage Summit arc is where the huge mess of retcons began, I seriously considered to drop the manga at that point but then we had confining jinchuriki arc which introduced Kushina.

Exactly Konan-sama the War arc still has NS hints in it such as the CPR scene and Minato's comment about Sakura/Kushina. It also has anti-SS like Sasuke calling Sakura and Kakashi useless and the terrible genjutsu scene. Also Sakura's fake smile and her feeling bad because Sasuke didn't save her from Madara. And Kakashi's comments that her feelings for Sasuke are "different"? How can one scene of Sasuke catching Sakura before she hits the ground make up for that?
If Kishimoto already decided the pairings before Shippuden then he was deliberately trolling the readers and ignoring his own characters' feelings and actions.

I felt that there had to be somewhere all of the stuff going on was leading...essentially, "this isn't over yet, so I won't judge".

I don't feel that the manga was all that terrible, even if even I could see that the writing quality had definitely gone down over time, just...none of it went anywhere in the end.

This would be the logical way to go considering how the story was building up until that point but I guess kishi wanted the stupid drama to continue.
It only inflamed the fandom and alienated fans, it was a mistake to play this stupid drama angle it took away part of the story that could be used to further the development of characters like Hinata

The Last might be the lowest scoring Naruto film on YJ, but I doubt it's being criticised as the most hated of the year. Hundreds, if not thousands of films are probably every year in Japan - to suggest that Naruto has the top placing as the most disliked out of all these movies is unlikely at best.

Things like Sakura saying she wouldnt make mistakes anymore and then doing the confession...

Naruto hyperventilating pathetically because of Sasuke

Sasuke crazy behavior leading nowhere

Sakura basically admitting she was useless


All the pointless drama


And as you said, things on that arc could still have been resolved in the future but he didnt do it.

Yeah Hinata's infatuation for Naruto literally got Neji killed. You would think she'd want to give up on the guy after that. Nope--it was just to force Naruto with her out of guilt and honor so Neji's death wouldn't be in vain. Terrible way to create a couple.
Naruto and Sakura have a more natural development.

The movie just makes the couple look even more forced and awful, since Hanabi literally had to be kidnapped by some filler villain and get her eyes taken out of her eyes so that her sister could get the chance to seduce Naruto with her ninja outfit

But yeah most hated movie of japan was little over the top. More likely most hated naruto movie
