NH Fans I have the ultimate Question for you.   WHAT. Did. Naruto. Like about Hinata?   And  NO the fact that she never gave up and is a proud loser don't count, those was traits that she picked up from him. Anime only scenes don't count either, so don't even bring up that crap about her cooking for him and he (Naruto) saying she'd make a good wife  WHAT did Naruto like about Hinata, be it her looks or her personality?

That's what I keep saying to those NH-ers who try to make out the blood oath as some sort of "love declaration" (though completely unbeknownst to Naruto...however the heck that works...); it was never about Hinata herself, but rather the fact that it boiled down to his beliefs vs. Neji's beliefs, and so when Neji beat down and belittled Hinata, who had chosen to steal and represent Naruto's beliefs for herself, Naruto saw Neji's actions as more of a personal insult to himself and his beliefs and so he was vowing to prove his beliefs to Neji with his own hands as Hinata completely failed.

Naruto has shown he has no problem killing people who refuse to convert to his ways or, at the very least, that he can't relate to in some way. Same to when it comes to helping people; no problem helping those who he can make out a relatable situation. Otherwise, he'll only do it because it's his mission.

 

Wait, when exactly did Naruto kill someone/show potential for killing someone for refusing to convert to his ways? 0_o That sounds almost sinister.

 

Also, I thought Naruto's TnJ worked on anyone he could, and not just people he relates to, because he was he was just as heroic and kindhearted as... let's say, Luffy. I guess that's what happens when I read too much fanfiction.

 

 

thats why i say that fight could easily have been Lee versus Neji to the same end and effect and even greater emotional resolution.

 

Lees determination and hard work would have resonated with Naruto as would his dream of being a fine shinobi. And nejis casual destruction of that dream and willingness to hurt a teamate and comerade while insulting that dream and kevetching about fate would have angered naruto no end espeically when Neji drives the dagger home at the end of it by telling Naruto--albeight slightly indirectly--that losers can never be hokage because fate.

 

that would drive Naruto to end neji hadcore and push him to fight evne harder then the first go around.

 

Wouldn't Neji have lost against Lee in the prelims, though? Lee had lol!speed and five Gates.

Just awhile ago like last year my NH coworker gave me a wall poster for TL and I end up using it as toilet paper (no kidding). The best part of the poster to use is Hinata's face

If it makes you guys feel better I used the bluray copy at best buy as a punching bag then stomped on it a couple times before I gently place it behind the other copies of the last.

1.) That's because Kishi went out of his way, in the main story anyway, to make almost every "main" antagonist Naruto faced someone that he could relate to just so he wouldn't have to kill them and usually be able use TnJ on them instead (Haku, Gaara, Nagato, Obito, Sasuke). Anyone else was usually taken care of by someone else minus Kaguya - Sasori by Chiyo and Sakura, Deidara blowing himself up, Kakuzu killed by Kakashi (Naruto merely severely injuring him and destroying two of his remaining three hearts), Hidan by Shikamaru, Konan by "Tobi"/"Madara"/Obito, Kisame killing himself, Madara by Black Zetsu, Black Zetsu sealed with Kaguya.

However, when one looks at some of the filler arcs and the movies, as non-canon as they are/people want them to be, it's actually in those kinds of things that seems to display it the most. Heck, look at the very first movie with the Land of Snow. Naruto is pretty much an outright douche to Koyuki most of the movie and when Koyuki even asked him (shortly before Naruto is having to run from the train) why he keeps finding her and bringing her back, Naruto explicitly says that "it's (his) mission" and he also killed Doto without question.


2.) I believe Lee would have been able to beat Neji and that the reason Lee "never won" against Neji before was because he was unable to utilize that full potential because of Gai's rules on not using the Gates without his permission (heck, Lee even needed his permission to remove his weights), especially against a fellow Konoha shinobi. This means during all the times Lee and Neji sparred, Lee was pretty much handicapped even more aside from just his inability to use Ninjutsu and Genjutsu.

well without getting into the who could beat who argument the point i was making was more that hinata was redundant to the scene. she wasused as a plot point to showcase the maina nd branch familiy conflict as well as nejis disdain for underdogs and ""hard worker"'.

 

in the context of the story Neji could beat Lee becausefor all lees speed and power at the time he ran into the same issue he ran into with gaara an impenetrable defense with the kaiten that would turn that energy back on him as it did with naruto who won when he out thought neji in the end.

 

Lees defeat in the fight would pose a more emotional aspect for the fight between naruto and neji because Lee had establisehd himself in narutos eyes as a hard worker and someone like him who was a loser. Nejis defeat of and subsequent humiliation of Lee would strike to narutos core moreso then hinatas defeat would.

 

thus Lee would be just as good in that moment as Hinata was if not more so.

Naruto can break neji kaiten because he's shroud by energy chakra(Kyubi).
So in theory, rasengan could do the same with it.

From what we were shown of the fights from both Neji and Lee you can't say for sure Lee couldn't beat him. Lee going full out almost beat a murderous Garra. A full blown jinchuuriki with dual defenses. Neji lost to Naruto who had almost no control over his own power at the time. Only utilizing Kyuubi to keep him in the fight. Not actually win it.

 

I've always seen the Neji/Lee dynamic to be another one Kishi's more tell and less show examples. We were told that Neji was better than Lee but never really shown why or how.

Physical attack is useless against kaiten unless it's truly powerful.
Lee 5 gate can't ko garra with sand armor. Remember that garra is not in full power and he doesn't take the fight seriously which become the mistake when lee unleash the gate.

He doesn't have full control, but he can utilize it to a certain extent of power. This is why making naruto can't use it in the part 2 only do him disservice imo.

I agree. Well imo, almost all kekkei genkai are weak.
The reason neji look strong because the main character is still a genin. Once mc gain more power, neji and therefore will become a fodder.
Unlike lee who has water down version of kaioken who by itself is really powerful.

Design wise, hyuga are weak.

Well Neji would have to use Kaiten on a constant basis utilizing his chakra to hold off a stamina freak with much higher speed in Lee. Remember Gaara's defense worked on it's own for the most part due to his bijuu and Lee was still fast enough to break through it, even after Gaara consciously tried to speed his sand up. 

 

And it took a jinchuuriki to beat a jinchuuriki in the end. But you could argue about who's actually stronger for days on end because Kishi really made it confusing as to how strong each character actually is. He left all of them lacking in detail.

I was referring to the relevance of the characters involved not their battle attributes  or skills.
