I thought choji was his favorite?... or was that killer bee that was his favorite or was it tenten or anko or was it hinata? He changes his favorite depending on the interview. Every interview kishi has doesn't sound like he doesn't care about Naruto. It that he is done with the series and wants to either spend time with his family or work on another manga.
As for Sakura being pregnant. The fact that Naruto was easily convinced by the dna test suigetsu did is pretty much proof that he didn't see her pregnant. Most likely. One day she just walk into the village and said that salad was her and sasuke's child. Nobody questioned it. Then again Naruto clearly hasn't been really involved in either Sakura or Sasuke lives in the past 15 years. Since Naruto didn't know Sasuke never visited Salad, and the gaiden gives the strong impression that this event is really the first time that Naruto and Salad have really "talked."

This is only 2 years old... and yet I'm at a lost of words
Is there any type of rational thought behind this? Are there even words to describe how wrong that line of thinking is?

Imo, I don't think it's wrong.

Agree. I don't like NH/SNS at all, but I can see why people ship them from part 1. SNS had positive development and NH even though they weren't much, it was also positive as well. I thought Hinata's proud failure speech was nice.
If course, both Hinata and Naruto had a one side obsession with their crushes, making me hate these ships (Sakura/ SS as well).
I thought people would understand NS slow but growing relationship, but I guess people really can't get over Sakura's treatment towards Naruto and Sakura overall in part 1.

By the end of part 1 she was already a lot better, it just happens that people already had their bias in place at the time

They had their bias by her introduction chapter and that was never going to change.

We had Naruto call her weird before this interaction, we had him act cool by not wanting to cheat off her and regret it internally, and we had Sakura willing to sacrifice her the Chunin Exams just so Naruto couldn't lose out on his "impossible" dream. If all it takes is eye contact to gauge chemistry, then I've been living a lie my whole life

Here is something my cousin and I talked about last night regarding Naruto when while discussing the filler, If a new person gets into Naruto and you reccomend them reading the manga since the CORE story is finished... How do you think they'll respond to Sakura's character in Part II pre-Kage Summit/War Arc/Ending?
The second most important question is how you think a new person will think of Hinata up to that point?

Thats true. But before that there was more SS, like the wave arc, Sakura had called Naruto an orphan, and you had the forest moment where Sakura punched Naruto for trying to pee in front of the group while her inner self wouldn't mind if it was Sasuke. Then you have the Ino vs. Sakura which started over a boy and all that after. With Hinata vs. Neji and her sad background as well as the proud failure speech.
I don't think they see it as just eye contact. The poster mention how they like the first interaction because it more likable and they saw a possibility of more pro NH interactions. And when you see more of Hinata and her side story in part 1, I can see why one would cheer Hinata over Sakura.
Like Nar123 and Bail O Lies said, the Sakura bias was established since the beginning, even though she was developing like Kishi first intended to. Seems like people weren't in favor of how Sakura was depicted at the beginning, especially towards Naruto, so when they saw that NH interaction, they begin to support it.

It really depends on their personal expectation. I remember a lot of NS had jumped ship during the confession because she still continued to love Sasuke. It for Sakura it really depends, because even though I saw here development from part 1, it bounces at times from the beginning. Some NS/SS I know had a hard time liking Sakura at the beginning. Some SS shipped because of Sasuke. Kishi did not give enough proper attention to Sakura, which is why she had a large hate base in the first place. So if you recommend them without any guidance, Sakura's character can be dropped easily; She's someone you can support easily because she's very strong-hearted and independent, but the moment she regresses, they will be disappointed (or not care) and drop her at any time. It's different compared to Sasuke who many have a love/hate relationship and don't drop him easily as compared to Sakura. Same with Itachi and Naruto, more people are willing to forgive stupid decisions they made over Sakura, because they have a likable backstory and personality, I guess?
Anyway how they view the Summit/War Arc/ Ending depends on how they see Sakura before hand. If the like her, ship NS or anti SS (and even some SS) they might be very disappointed. If they don't care about her or hate her, then they won't care or might believe she deserved her ending result or worse like how some of the SNS/NH shippers wanted her dead.
I honestly don't know about Hinata, so I'm concluding wish fulfillment. Even Kishi doesn't know how she became so popular, and I don't either. She seriously was a secondary character. People might be surprised at The Last, because it's a retcon. Part 1 Hinata was great, but so was Lee and other secondaries. Part 2, she only appeared so rarely, and was so Naruto focused, I don't know how she past Sakura in popularity other than wish fulfillment.

No, that just that you and them have different perception. We had Naruto call her weird before this interaction, we had him act cool by not wanting to cheat off her and regret it internally, and we had Sakura willing to sacrifice her the Chunin Exams just so Naruto couldn't lose out on his "impossible" dream. This kind of thing is not a matter of right or wrong.
It's a matter of like or dislike.
So if he/she like nh because of eye contact, then so be it.

Unfortunately, depending on the bias, a lot of people just couldn't or wouldn't let go of Sakura's first impressions (like the many who continue to try to use the flawed "Sakura abused Naruto!" excuse as to why they couldn't possibly work), refusing to see when she does develop or show the good side of herself, especially early part two (haters not wanting her to have any credit in the Rescue Gaara arc, giving their victory over Sasori completely to Chiyo and completely ignoring her creating an antidote for Sasori's poison on the spot to save Kankuro when even Chiyo couldn't). They just base everything about her on those first few times she bashed Naruto.
Same with Hinata, people just loving the typical shy moeblob performance and as a result, unable to or refusing to see her flaws as they were exposed quite openly, basing everything about her on nothing but being cute (in their eyes) in those first few moments.

those who refuse to see development have no basic reading comprehension and are simply biased. sawyermage saying "we're all biased" doesn't excuse it. its just one plugging their ears, shutting eyes going "LALALALALA IM NOT LISTENING"

Alright so here is a question I've been thinking about a few days ago.. Which characters are like similar to Naruto and Sasuke, but are done so much better in terms of characterization and story?
I can name a few at the top of my head:
First one is Xavier and Magneto from X-Men (in the movies, comics, and tv show).
Second would be Peter Parker and Harry Osborn (from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy)
Third would be Aang and Zuko from Avatar The Last Airbender.

Guts and Griffith from berserk.
Musashi and kojiro from vagabond.
And kishi blue print for that relationship, sakuragi and rukawa from slamdunk.
While musashi and kojiro doesn't really resemble nar sas, they're the one who start it all(the novel).

Sora and Riku form kingdom hearts
Kirk and Spock from Star Trek (Original and most so reboot)
Jason and Tommy, Wes and Eric, Jack and Sky, Scott and Dillon, Casey and Jarrod from Power Rangers. Wes and Eric and Casey and Jarrod especially.
Goku and Vegeta from DBZ
Yusuke and Kuwbara/ Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusko.

Now here is another question I just thought of, what was a good way for a character to get over their first love and get together with somebody else as opposed how things transpired for Naruto's reason for getting over Sakura?
Here is a few I can think of:
1. Wolverine from the X-Men movies is a really good example because He not only lost, but killed Jean Grey, who obviously meant alot to him, in X-Men The Last Stand. Plus you get to see what happens with him in The Wolverine with visions of Jean haunting him and ultimately going to Japan in order to find himself is where he meets and eventually starts feeling something for Mariko after the death of her father, the man he saved during Hiroshima.
2. Peter Parker from comics and the amazing spider-man film series, you have this kid who was in a relationship with his first love Gwen Stacy, and ultimately it happens to be his fault when she dies because well Green Goblin. Point is with Peter it takes him a long as time before he starts feeling something for MJ, and everyone knows where things for Pete when it comes to MJ.
3. Mei from O-Parts Hunter (Seishi Kishimoto's work) initially feels something for Jio Freed, but over the course of the story she moves on from him and feels something for someone else simply because his heart belongs to someone else.
