I think they respect him as a mangaka.
I don't know if he has the same respect with toriyama or other big mangaka.

They made a poll a while back. All I remember is that he was behind Ishida (Tokyo Ghoul), Oda, and Sorachi. But it was a poll.

Wsj poll does has importance, especially for editor.
It's up to the author to follow it or not.

Because popularity is is the reason why we have this ending/ current stuff right now. Like what Rocci said, only that I should have included fan mail, merchandise, viewership, general reception to certain characters and plot. The Last heavily advertised Sasuke and Kakashi because they are aware of their popularity and lack of screen time. People were pissed. For Bolt, SNS, New T7, Hinata, Himawari and Gaara were advertised for the movie. Sakura was reduced to fodder. 

 

Naruto Storm 4 advertised the New Huugya combo, SNS combo, Bolt/Sarada combo, and NH/NH The Last combo and due to Bolt's popularity, Adult Naruto and Sasuke has just been added in (for extram money of course). Sakura, who was heavily advertised before, is now reduced to fodder pretty much. It's been a good time ago when we saw NS/SNS/T7 promotion...now it's T7 with Sakura appearing here and there, SNS, Bolt/Sarada, and I seen more Hinata promotion than a secondary character deserves. Itachi has his own anime, and I already said how Kishi removed Sakura's backstory/ parents because she was too unpopular to bother with. 

 

Kishi made it very clear that popularity kind of determined where the manga would go. And here it is.

@NeonRanger Yes I know popularity is what got us in this position in the first place. But people need to understand that some of these polls don't reflect the reality of the situation. Let me give you a small example last year Pepsi in my country did one of their polls to see what people prefer Pepsi or Coca-Cola. They traveled all over the country for their experiment, they gave people a Pepsi drink and a Coca-Cola drink without telling them which is which. And this isn't the first time they did this. Now based on their research 61.2% if I remember correctly preferred Pepsi. A couple of years ago it was over 70%.

Now here's the kicker, even though according to their claims that over 60% of the population (again based on their own research) prefer Pepsi over Coca-Cola; that means they dominate the market. Well Coca-Cola holds number one spot in sales numbers in drinks sold in my country while Pepsi is number 4 tied with a beer company. Now how is that even possible if over 60% prefer the other one? Well that's because some polls don't show reality. Because if you look at their polls then their drink should dominate the market. But it doesn't.

 

Oh and reason I even know this is because the last year I was bombarded with their stupid research every time I went to see a movie in the cinema. And eventually I got tired of their claims and wanted to see if what they say is true or not.

Polls and popularity are very tricky. Unless it's a proper poll done right, because if it isn't you'll never get the right answer. At best you can get an idea of what's going on.

Don't forget that 90% of people who start these popularity poll is biased. So it cannot be trusted. Like how kishi assistant show his popularity poll that Hinata is more popular and better than Sakura to Kishi to convince him to do NH ending. And guess what happen now??? the queen rarely to almost never appear again in Gaiden, novel, and Boruto movie.

Look Neon what you're saying might be right about the shippers. But you said it yourself "JP doesn't care about ships." Which is why this nH/SS ending is still terrible and is costing them more than if they went with NS because the fact they had to destroy everything about the story people liked to make it happen. Which is why they are still losing more money then they were expecting and are not seeing the profits they were expect making them desperate enough to abandon both nH and SS and just rely on SNS for now.

True but its the same with directors from what I heard unless you are verypoweful then the stuido will mess thing up I mean look at the new fantastic 4 that came out.

Good thing I choose to become a writer/novelist over being a mangaka and comic artist. Don't have to worry about editors and your assistants ruining my story.

If I ever be a mangaka, I'll do it webcomic style. If they want me to bring it to mainstream, then fine by me, but not until I'm done or have control.

Happy late new year all...just passing by. I hope most have successfully recovered from this  ending. We definitely deserved better. But NS was too good to be true. I don't miss Naruto at all but I miss the days when the NS fandom was active lol. Still can't believe everythings over once and for all after being invested in this fandom for over 5 years.

I recovered; I found OPM, ML, and Free! 

 

Naruto to was going downhill since Pain, so I wasn't expecting a great ending (a decent one would satisfy). Naruto (and Bleach once it ends) is just another end of my childhood. I'm more happy now that I moved on. I still rant from time to time, but I'm not as bitter.

 

NS was a lot active. I don't mind the small fandom, it once felt like family. But sadly the Naruto fandom (including NS) on tumblr is helping me move on quicker. I want to contribute, but I really don't want to do it in vain. Too many trolls, and it's seems like anti post gets most attention. I never cared until I notice it traveled to the Shinachiku tag. Sadly, tag got tainted. Too much negativity got me to the point where I need to move on because I really let the hate get to me. Tumblr is a horrible place overall, specially the Naruto fandom. Not even the NS fandom there make me completely happy.

 

Thats why I love H&E here. You guys are nice and welcoming. Also fanfiction.net has a very active NaruSaku fanbase, so I go there a lot too.
