I could be reading it wrong but Iida did ask what were the two of them doing in that last panel and They were just smiling at each other. It could be interpreted as Platonic but I don't want to say for sure yet. I don't think My heart could take it if it ends up being just good friends with the manga about to finish   :laughcry:NOT after That LAST BETRAYAL anyway  (I hope that series REMAINS DEAD and is never defibrillates again

I totally get the sentiments there Phantom, and trust me the bridge had already burned for me twice once with Naruto and the other with AoT when it came to the romance subplot elements... The only exception  I'm willing to make is  if the mangaka has proven that he or she is capable with a well rounded compelling story with a good romance subplot from start to finish with their first series. 

 

More so, whether the work made them famous or was financially successful  makes no dfference <- big example being a series we all know too well.

 

 

 That said, without diving too much into the contents of the chapter, I did like the IzuOcha moment in the penultimate but at the same time I do also think if it was entirely dedicate to them kind of similar to Eden's Zero Chapter 291 with Shiki and Rebecca's confirmation and by that I mean... no interruptions. 

 

Though,  I am still waiting to see what wet in the final chapter for the full confirmation.

430 Finale and more

So... NO pairings within Class A. Only canon pairing is Gentle and La Brava.

 

• Begins 8 Years later, Izuku is now a teacher at UA (his tie is Normal! and wearing regular professional shoes)
• Kota and Eri are now students. Also, the kid from the last chapter, he's there too.
• And it looks like Kota and Eri are more than friends, as they are holding hands while Mandalay looking proud.
• Events of second and third years for Class A and others: Exams and another Sports Festival. Shoji and Kota meeting a heteromorphic scientist, Katsuki in rehab, Izuku went home to visit his mother, Aizawa and Present Mic at Shirokumo's grave, Mirko got new prosthetics (her left arm has Super Mario's Bullet Bill!!!     ), All Might helping a now older Gran Torino how to walk, Tokoyami and Hawks talking, Kamui and Mt. Lady on the field, Melissa visiting Class A, Endeavor with his sidekicks, Izuku and Ochaco together outside in the snow with scarves, and Spinner released his LoV book in which Compress is now reading it. However, as these events happening, the embers of OFA began to disappear little by little and I think it disappeared entirely after graduation. Speaking of graduation, Iida was making his speech and with UA's tradition since Mirio's class couldn't do it, Katsuki and Monoma blew up the stage behind him.
• Jump to the 8-year time skip: we meet a middle school kid named Dai (who had appeared in the anime with the Endeavor doll, I don't know what episode though). So, we're in a classroom, a teacher asked his students what they want to become. One wants to work at Hatsume's Lab (her boobs got bigger!), another student wants to become a great doctor like Dr. Yoshida (the Yoshi looking doctor from Super Mario), and one wants to work in La Brava's company. Dai wants to become a great hero, but another student stated that he'll never make it with his quirk as there are a few villains and there are a stabilized number of heroes, so only the strongest kids will have a chance (Chapter 1's Izuku and Katsuki scene all over again, but without the bullying). 
• After school, Dai says people changed. When he was a kid, everyone was looking up to All Might, Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Deku (!!!), Dynamight (!!!) or Shoto (!!!) He's like Izuku in the beginning, feeling insecure because he felt like he was acting like a child.
• We cut to Shoji, accepting the Imamura award for his efforts of resolving prejudice-based incidents in a peaceful way. He dedicated to all of the heteromorphs who marched with him to the hospital 8 years ago. (MY BOI, the GOAT!!!)
• Ochaco created the Quirk Counselling Expansion Project which became one of the essential aspects for today's society. Her, Iida, Tsuyu and Momo are currently visiting schools all over the country. (Remember Ochaco being frugal with money? SHE'S MAKING IT NOW!!!!)
• Eri is now part of the UA music club.
• Aizawa is still a teacher at UA with a different haircut. He showed Izuku a video of Katsuki screaming at a civilian for recording him too close. He stated that this may make his rankings fell while Shoto's will shoot ahead.
• Speaking of Shoto, he patrols day and night. Many of the people, including his fans, hardly calls him as "Endeavor's son". Izuku thinks Shoto will surpass everyone on the rankings list.
• We're not sure of the official list, but it looks like Mirio/Lemillion is currently on top, with Mt. Lady and Kamui after him. Izuku also mentioned Monoma and Honenuki's spots are in great spots. So, it looks like Katsuki and Shoto's rankings are high too.
• Aizawa then asked about Izuku's loneliness and condition, and he replies from the talk with Fuwa back in 425, saying with his knowledge and experiences to help people without a quirk, "it's a cool way to live". Izuku asked does Aizawa agrees, but Aizawa mentioned that Izuku should be stricter with his students as many wants to be guaranteed to become a hero when studying at UA to lessen their arrogance.
• Izuku revealed that he hardly hangs out with his classmates since their graduation (NO!!!!!!! ), due to their days off don't coincide.
• While walking home from work, we see official products of Kirishima and Tokoyami on TV. Some children were playing and shouting "Unbreakable" when one of them stumbled. Izuku rushed over to help the kid but at the same time, Dai came over to help too but also stumbled. Dai recognized Deku and told him about his insecurities about his future and even visiting the All Might statue (repaired) whenever he's feeling down. He then asked Deku the same question from Chapter 1 when Izuku officially met All Might, "Can I become a hero just like you and All Might?".
• Izuku remembered when he asked All Might that question and then began to analyze Dai's quirk (the mumbling returns, some things never change!) Dai's quirk is pulling plates out of his hair (similar to Mineta's quirk)
• "Now it's my turn to give people dreams". Izuku said it's fine as Dai reached out to help the stumbled kid. He used the same quote from All Might: "You can become a hero".  We then see the statue of All Might with statues of other people cheering him on. Speaking of statues when Izuku was walking home, there are statues of Class A.
• Izuku told Dai to do his best. His monologue ended that, "if I said I'm not a little sad, I'd be lying. However, I can at least encourage other people like that. And that was the story of how we all become the greatest heroes."

My Hero Academia 430 - END.

HOWEVER!

All Might suddenly appeared and crushed the Japanese word for End, via 4th wall breaking.

He apologized for the delay, but Izuku stated he could've met him at the airport. All Might gave him a surprise gift: a briefcase. "Technology evolves just like quirks." Izuku mentioned that it must've costed a lot of money. All Might said that this was developed from a friend (I bet it was David and/or Melissa Shield) and Hatsume and financed by Class A, with Katsuki contributing more. "Take this to heart, kid. You've earned this power too, fair and square," All Might said. Izuku smiled. Katsuki shouted while extending his hand, "Come on, Deku!" Hawks is being informed of a landslide on a highway and asked for some heroes to help out. Izuku jumps with his support item and when he looks down, he sees Tomura/Tenko's ghost. 

The Final two pages is Class A, plus Aoyama and Shinso, as adults in their costume designs that were hinted from Endeavor's dream. "This is the story how we continue to reach out" (Izuku is NOW "Iron Man/Batman"!)

Honestly, this ending is better than Naruto's, that's for sure because everything throws back to Chapter 1 and the themes stayed in its place (a God send!) Besides Gentle X La Brava, which was obvious, and hints that Kota and Eri are being more than friends, I'm okay with the no canonical ships within Class A. And sorry to say, Izuku X Ochaco for some reason didn't have enough moments. I'm glad they're best as friends/best friends. Reasons why I felt they weren't going to make it? I'm giving you guys a snippet of the post I was tending to save for a different and shocking pairing that I thought Horikoshi was daring to do when this chapter was leaked and released:

 

Why Izuku and Ochaco didn't become canon

For some reason, Izuku and Ochaco's ship wasn't progressing enough to guarantee it. I noticed it before the final battle, especially during their talk. Going back to our NaruSaku moments, in which we knew what HAD happened in canon and enough material to back it up, you know how the closeness, dialogue and others work... until SP and Masashi's editiors/assistants came and added their two cents. Well, it didn't even work out because Horikoshi-sensei gave them a gap (Bones tried to close that gap a bit on that scene in the anime), which was very strange. Plus, looking at the setting, they were at a cliff. From what I heard from the Japanese; a cliff means that there is absolutely NO further progression. Not to mention during Izuku's rambling, he called her beautiful, in which Ochaco shut that down immediately. I think their last true moment was the Christmas episode when they exchanged gifts. We would've gain something more, but nothing came further into fruition. Plus, then we have Himiko Toga... however, I'm going point out the true reason why IzuChaco didn't make it in a second because it had something to do during the All-Might Radio sessions with the VAs.

 

And you also got to question why Ochaco doesn't even want to acknowledge or accepted the fact that she has a crush on Izuku during the story. It sounds like she doesn't want to be the stereotypical shonen heroine and romantic interest for the shonen protagonist. Then 429 confirms it, it may look like a IzuChaco moment (although Izuku mentioned that she is his hero because of the events: before and after the Points System test, calling him "Deku" for a different and positive meaning, Class A vs. Class B. and bringing him back to UA), but it actually isn't because we see her crying over "not saving" Himiko, believing that she failed as a hero for "not understanding her and if she would've met her as they were kids earlier to actually save her from becoming a villain" (more importantly, Himiko sacrificed her life to save Ochaco from dying) and she was hiding her teary face when Izuku came to her because she doesn't want him to see her in her distress state of her "failure". Not to mention, Izuku still calls her Uraraka-san. If the romance about them was there, he should have at least called her "Ochaco-chan" or something. So, their whole relationship is now very platonic.

Ochaco's true role

When Ayane Sakura, Ochaco's VA, mentioned about her role in the series, she stated that Ochaco's was more of a hero, rather than a heroine. When 429 came out, Ayane recently stated that she was so happy about Ochaco's role as a hero for Izuku.

 

Who was the actual heroine? Ask me and I tell you in a different post. Trust me, you guys will be shocked and screaming "WTF?!" about the character they stated was the "heroine".

 

Now waiting for Izuku to jump back into the Hero business after 8 years, was a downfall, especially stating that he hadn't been in touch with his classmates after graduation. Very sad. But I guess All Might's gift (along with Katsuki, Class A, Hatsume and probably David's contributions) may had something to do with the support item/Neo Hercules suit(?) development to make sure he doesn't have any fallbacks like with OFA. That's what I'm assuming due to real life situations of costs, research, technology and development.

The ending of Boku No Hero Academia is similar to that of Assassination Classroom, but very poorly executed.

I think its fine that Izuku ended up a teacher, his habit analyzing quirks capabilities would be useful for coaching or teach promising heroes.

My thoughts on the ending

I personally would have liked Deku keeping OFA since well, having epuipment (power armor) to compensate the lack of a quirk is great and all but it shows the limitations when said equipment becomes broken or rendered useless. That said I Understand the theme is OFA's job is finished in defeating AFO so it is no longer needed. But still it feels unsatisfactory that Deku trained with that power for the whole story only to lose it at the end. Also, it feels like just like with All Might, the beginning feel like unnecessary drama with All Might telling Deku you can't be a hero without a quirk. Deku and Ochako I feel is not kept platonic more than the fact that the relationship between them is more implied because again the had this moment together at the end of last chapter, and in the small show casing before the time skip where Derock mentioned Kota and Eri holding hands hinting at "puppy love", there was a panel showing Deku and Ochako were on a date or at least spending time together alone. I feel that way at least, and if it is not an implication of them dating off panel then I can accept maybe they at least acknowledged their attraction and feelings for  each other, but decided not to act on it to focus on their careers. Al in all, Like I said before, I did not expect a fulfilling ending like so many series before this one but I can find it acceptable and sweet in it's own way. at least it did not trample and obliterate it's messages and themes for the sake of pleasing an obnoxious toxic fraction of the fan base that was saying Ochako should be with Katsuki for instance. So it was not a great ending but I'm left okay with it and who knows maybe there is potential for a sequel. in the future.

It's honestly crazy to think that 10 years I kick started this thread, and seeing the discussions still be carried on too this day just makes me so incredibly happy with how engaged you guys all have been for all those years.. Even though, I might've dipped out a after a certain period of time, I never stopped reading the manga because of what this meant for me.
 
Having said that, Looking back on how I started that initial post... I do have one confession to make and it has got to be the biggest oversight on my part.   That is this opening statement right here on November 20th 2014:
 
 

So for the past couple of days ever since Naruto ended, I've been trying to find a series to fill the void (aside from Bleach, Fairy Tail, and Attack on Titan). There needed to be a proper void to make things satisfying that it could take Naruto's place. So a couple weeks now, Ive came been keeping my eye on Weekly Shonen Jump's rankings, and I saw this manga get between #1 and 5 during those couple of weeks. 

 

 

 

 

I had actually started My Hero Academia prior to making this thread, it was August 25th 2014 which was a little over 3 months before Naruto came to an end. A lot of my attention at the time was on Naruto  as it was coming to an end so a lot of my personal investment was there, and My Hero Academia had fallen into the very back corner of my mind at the time especially around the conclusion of the Kaguya and leaning into the the Naruto vs Sasuke fight.

 

Then when it came to an end, Many of us were left in devestation and pure depression over what had transpired, and looking for that space to fill a void from what happened with Naruto. In fact I can even say that a lot of the other series I was into at the time I gave little to no importance especially for like newer shounen manga anime because of the legendary status Naruto had.  Due to that, I subconsciously forgot about My Hero Academia in that 3 month time span because of Naruto, and factoring dealing with being in my first year in College too... Grades were another huge factor that i swallowed into to distract myself from what happened with Naruto. 

 

 

Then comes the middle of November,  I came across My Hero Academia without having realized that I had actually read it before which kinda shows how badly Naruto's ending had devastated me personally that I had forgotten even when I had originally My Hero at all.

 

It actually took me until The Dark Hero Arc where I really sat on the direction of the series and a lot of what Deku was going through at the time.... How he had distanced himself from everyone. Ironically,  when I had my seizure for the first time back in May 2021 That was when I truly remembered where My own journey with this series happened before Naruto ended. 

 

So I do deeply apologize for the confusion on this everyone, and it probably doesn't mean much to anyone, but.... It was just a realization I've had for a while, and I wanted to bring that to light as the guy who kick started this thread. 

   

 

Now with that said, I can finally share my two cents.... Don't take this as review on whether the ending is good or bad.... Just tackling a few points that have been made..

 

Regarding One for All Situation & IzuOcha aka Green Tea

  Starting with One for All: it should be noted that Kohei's original concept of Deku was to be a quirkless hero who relied on Gadgets like Batman & Iron Man. However, it was his editor who recommended Deku be given a quirk instead which is where the One for All quirk comes to into play for the story.  So to see Kohei take the approach of Deku not having One for All at the end is an extremely ballsy move, but to also to bring it back full circle with how he had always envisioned Deku to be Someone who is quirkless, but relies on gadgets to be a hero. 

 

 

Now that bring us to IzuOcha: This is obviously a no brainer  and should be fairly obvious that throughout the story Kohei has been pushing towards IzuOcha since the beginning of the series.  Remember, even in the Volume 1 for Ochako's Character notes he even points out "I plan to have her appear with Deku a lot, and it's crystal clear where he took each of their moments together in a way where they both got closer together especially throughout the course of The Final Act Saga during the Dark Hero Arc, and where they are looking over the city during the day and night where he personally hears out Ochako's pain and gives her the absolute comfort in the world.  Even in the ending of the chapter where it ends with that panel where they both look at each other. Obviously it's not directly stated by any means, but the implications are easily there that something has blossomed between the two of them.

 

That also leads to the biggest elephant in the room which is that IzuOcha wasn't confirmed in the final chapter it is all up and there. Also before anyone says this because of what happened to Naruto an that being the reason.... Let me remind everyone that Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba had a similar situation like this between Tanjiro and Kanao, and we find out they got together and had a family even if it was shown through a photograph. So this rules out the whole Naruto is the sole reason we didn't get a confirmation for IzuOcha.  You have to also remember Kohei Horikoshi's health wasn't in the best ever since 2018 his breaks gotten significantly longer and alot of that had to contribute to health issues.    

 

Which brings me tot Final point I wanna  address....

 

The Final Vol (42) page count: When the final chapter came out  I did a total page count of all the last 8 chapters that compass a total of 126 pages.  An average manga volume usually is 184 to 200+ pages at most. 

 

 

Chapter 423 to Chapter 428 are 15 pages each. 

 

 

15 x 6 =  90 pages 

 

That's only the first 6 chapters (423-428) in the final Volume (42) 

 

 

Chapter 429 = 17 pages 

 

Chapter 430 = 20 pages 

 

Those 2 final chapters =   37 pages 

 

 

Now add the number of pages of these 8 last 8 chapters together....

 

90 pages (Chapters 423-428) 

 

+ 37 pages (Chapters 429-430) 

 

 

it's a total of 127 pages!

 

 

That is still roughly 60-80 pages to fill out the rest of the volume, and that means we are "potentially" in for additional content for these chapters and especially an expansion on the final chapter as well even a true solidification of IzuOcha being canon as a whole. The extra content can even lead to bonus material that happens even after the final page of Chapter 430. 

 

Remember the final volume (42)  comes out December 4th in Japan so we got a lot of time between now and then to see what Kohei presents to all of us for the manga of My Hero Academia to fill in. 

 

 

Also I would like to point that Demon Slayer's final volume had a total of 39 extra pages. So  be sure to keep that in mind!

Final Chapter

Kohei Horikoshi... did you talked to Masashi during your "break"? 

 

Because it sounds like you gotten his advice and MHA is now heading towards Naruto territory in terms of its ending and the Japanese fans are pissed! So, we got Izuku and Ochaco becoming canon, in NOT in a good way (literally have to be pushed by ghost!Himiko to shot down the queer pairings and ended BakuDeku as having Izuku rejected Katsuki's request to work at his agency, even having Katsuki basically stating, "No one is special" and he's in the top 15, originally at the top 5 but dropped). Also, Izuku felt like he is happy just to be a teacher? After receiving the armor suit?! Your mentor was a pro hero AND a teacher to make it work, despite his major injuries! That shot down Izuku's characterization as a whole. Another character assassination, folks.

 

As for Izuku X Ochaco, he should've added more scenes to make them believable because this ending pulled a red herring move on the audience by having Izuku suddenly have an interest to "rekindle" their relationship towards romance after 8 years?! Would've made sense for have Ochaco be at his side during the timeskip since he's quirkless and being more supportive instead of having Katsuki working his ass off to get the armor suit for him. I would've taken the original ending, instead of this extra expanded BS! It even followed some of Naruto's pairings for beta couples. Also, All Might does NOT appear at all!

Update:

 

Actually Chapter 431

So, the purpose of this chapter is sort of a "what if" continuation for 430 as the actual manga (well, its title) ended in 429. He stated that this chapter is more of an "off-camera" and relieve the characters from the story's drama. So it is like we, the readers, have to treated it if its officially canon or not, like a multiple endings situation of a video game and guess the correct one. No sequel in the works though.

 

Now it's up to BONES to decide to show it or not for the anime's final season.

Going off Derock post feels like Hirokoshi is trying to fix the ending with another chapter. Since the reception to the ending was mixed. Or at least deal with the damage by making it clear the pairing happened. Midoriya being a school teacher is fine since he has always analyzed quirks. But the story start off with this was the story of how he became the number 1 hero. With the implication he was telling the story to a student that would become the tenth inheritor of One for All.

 

Instead of that, it became we are all the number one hero at some point and the narration just became narration. What needed to be fixed in the last chapter was Midoriya needed the mech suit earlier so he could be the number one hero and he should have been telling his story to a student or students. So that it could fit the that was the story of how I...No we all became the number 1 hero.

 

The pairing stuff was minor in comparison. Though disappointing. People who thought Gravity and Blood Girl were an item were both misreading and reading too much into their interactions. Uraraka always had feeling toward Midoriya and was going to get together with him. Toga was attracted to Midoriya because he looked like a guy she liked. Her interest in Uraraka was why she gets to have a boy while she is rejected as a freak and wanted someone to talk to. Uraraka thought she was crazy till near the end she realized she was a girl that needed and wanted help. And as an act of compassion wanted to convince her it wasn't to late to start over.

 

Naruto end chapter in of itself wasn't much of the problem for the IP. It was everything around it. Yes, his final lesson to his son was the opposite of what he stood for the entire story, and he should have ended up with Sakura instead of Hinata, but those are minor things. The problem was before the ending his fight with Sasuke made it clear he had no plan compared to Sasuke only platitudes. Afterwards both the Last and Boruto made him a fraud that lied about everything.

I mean to me the equivalent for ns already happened in the adventure of dai so even if other manga are scared off by naruto's ending i don't think that's what mangaka should do. There's still plenty of support for ns in my opinion and letting the ending doom other ones doesn't make much sense

Yes, Ochaco has feelings for Izuku, but the problem was that a lot of people were seeing it with shipping glasses and ignoring the hints that Horikoshi was providing to her characterization: trying to defy the typical shonen heroine tropes. She didn't want to embrace those feelings because it was interfering with her dreams and aspirations, which were very similar to Izuku's: becoming a hero that sees people smiling and happy. What's even worse that many of their interactions were platonic at best. Why the dab after the Class A Vs. Class B arc? No further pursuit like something similar with Naruto for Izuku on his end, such as calling Ochaco by her first name or an affectionate nickname? (Ignoring the Christmas gift exchange scene, which would've been the push for them to grow closer, but that went left during the Liberation War and Himiko). Then the cliff scenes on both before and after the Final War, which was them figuring out how they can save Himiko and Tomura/Tenko without killing them and the aftermath of their traumas. But before that, he rambled by calling her beautiful in which in the manga, she hid her face via embarrassment while the anime, she literally dead-panned at him which is very awkward. 430 had one panel but that wasn't enough. Here in 431, it just made her went from an interesting, yet independent grown woman to right back to pairing fodder, just not worse like Sakura's case. But after going through with it, as I stated before, it's up to interpretation and not to mention if the anime will include it as Horikoshi made the chapter like a bonus ending for a video game. Did I forget to mention that 431 had TONS of mistakes for the panels and visuals, i.e. Kirishima at one point where he was in Katsuki's car with Izuku has 6 fingers for his right hand?

 

And you are correct with Himiko and Ochaco's interactions, but it was heavily implied that she, Himiko, is bisexual. Why else she stated she add both Izuku and Ochaco to her "loved" ones (and also Tsuyu too)? Even the manga cover of her have colors implicated the Bisexual flag.

Okay my thoughts on chapter 431. It didn't change how I felt towards the ending much. Deku losing his powers and is stuck with a teachers job feels like a forced " imitating" All Might life story and goes against the beginning of the series with Deku's declaration that he became the no.1 hero. It is very funny how Shoto was adamant about not becoming like Endeavor yet he still holds the no. 2 position as him. I understand that he doesn't care that much about it at this point and is just happy to live out his dream but it is still too much of a forced Generation Xerox on this plot line too. Bakugou being rejected by Deku to join his agency I feel thematically makes sense and those that are butt hurt by it were over analyzing their dynamic in my opinion because I feel that even though Bakugou apologized, there is still too much baggage between the two of them to go back to being straight up friends, despite what Deku says and the friendship being pushed. I don't accept their current relationship at the start of the series being calle d friendship. Deku and Uraraka becoming canon (The highlight for me, honestly) in the way that it did, well, I'm not saying it couldn't have been handled better I'm not against it at the same time. While they are close, they have also always been "twice shy" when it comes to their feelings and I feel thematically it is about Ochako letting go of her lingering regrets and move on with her life on a much more happy note.

I do like that it's bakugo who points out to midoriya that he needs to express his feeling to ochako
