Kishimoto is full of kitten, ramen posted comments from 2ch on how people were confused when Kishimoto said Hinata was more popular.

I wish he was like Kubo. Everytime he gets hatemail about Orihime, he writes more Orihime.

I think what kishi meant is that hinata is very popular in the west and to studio perriot.

His biggest market is Japan, that wouldn't make any sense
But like somebody else said, popularity shouldn't matter when it comes to characters

Do you mean with how he tried to deny the pain he had felt when Rin died and thus trying to execute the Moon's Eye Plan was a way for him to feel better, even if he was internally conflicted??

I was referring mostly to his words... like "I'm living in a hell" "Reality is cruel" "I don't feel pain" etc.. stuff like so... but also his actions like you said.

Alright, and I do see whatcha mean. You can also see the conflict when he gains the power he wants, yet he is still beaten, and how Naruto tries to get Obito to see that he's contradicting himself.

Actually ones that Kishi touched upon the least came across as most realistic. The more Kishi wrote about a character, the more unrealistic the character tended to become. 

 

Naruto, Sakura and Hinata- too obsessive, Sasuke -too wacky, Kakashi wasn't the same by the end, Sai disappeared, Yamato dropped out of existence..... In the end, I'd say TenTen turned out to be the most realistic character.
