He's been #1 more than anybody else, he beat Kakashi before that and before that, and etc.

Hinata is probably more popular, theres a reason why hinata fans took over studio pierrot, and its hard to believe that Sakura is more popular than hinata with the way Kishi treated her, japanese think shes only for ''sasukes use''. cant blame them either.

in the poll i just posted which was published on last january, Naruto was one of the top hated characters, cant imagine how hated he is now lol. Hinata is both liked and hated. while Sakura is just hate.

What happens is that Sakura's fans are not so vocal like the rabid hinata ones.

seriously, whatever these popularity polls prove, It shouldn't matter for the author...He should've stick to his original plan (NS u_u ) and make it canon, because this was the most logical thing to do (But the word "logic" doesn't even exist in Kishi's vocabulary apparently) 

And it's his fault if Sakura is unpopular or whatever ! He didn't develop her enough for a main character, he should've shown her badass side more often !
