The reason most fics do that is if they are trying to pair up Naruto with another character. They know that he likes her a lot, and it would take something dramatic such as her getting really angry to make him forgot about her. What I don't like is when I try to read a story with another pairing and they still make her out to be some fangirl/b*tch after the timeskip. I can understand doing so before the PoaL, but after that I just find it hard to believe.

What annoys me is how in harem fics people always vote for Hinata to be in there, and hate on Sakura. I can never understand why/how she has so many fanboys that love her character when quite frankly her personality annoys me. Whenever I see a voting harem fic, the reviewers are like "Hinata must be in it hands down!!!!" and I just get tired of her. I mean there are plenty of NaruHina stories out there, why must she also always be in the harems as well!

I can agree to some extent with what you say, True. I can't see Sakura being all angry at Naruto for bringing back a messed up Sasuke. I think she would be happy, if not relieved, to see the two come back alive. So seeing Sakura attacking Naruto just completely kills my interest in most cases...Sakura can be mean, but she isn't that horrible. So, in order to pair Naruto up with someone else, they decide to make Sakura a hateful girl in order to easily transition Naruto into liking someone else.

Let's see...hm...another pet peeve of mine. Ah, stories where Naruto has a romantic relationship with the Kyuubi. Now, while as always I can think of exceptions, I have to say that Naruto having romantic feelings for a Bijuu (and vice versa) just seems beyond my liking. Not only that, but he gains super powers as well from it...gah, I'm going to stop ranting now.

I bow to your wisdom, Leney. I completely agree with you. You have efficiently shown how stupid and artificial are plots are :thumbs: . Why would be she angry AT NARUTO? And she wasn't angry when he returned empty-handed -does someone ever remember she was going to visit Naruto first and Sasuke alter?-, so why would she hate her if he fullfilled his promise?

What I don't like his how they continue to have her act as a b!tch as soon as the Chunnin exams start, when her opinion of Naruto was starting to change dramatically. She was willing to fail the test in part 1 so Naruto's dreams wouldn't be crushed. She protected both her teammates during the FoD, and she cheered on Naruto when he fought Neji, and saw it as motivation to get stronger.

Now the thing is that everyone knows that Naruto would never give up on Sakura. If they are trying to break off any romantic feelings he has for her, they make her act/do something that is over the top so that Naruto will forget about her. If Sakura just said "Naruto I don't like you" he'd just think it's her normal way of behaving and keep going after her. That's why they overblow her as being a b!tch so that Naruto can forget pursuing her.

Do I agree with this? Of course not, but I can understand why some authors would do so if they are trying to pair up Naruto with someone else after the PoaL.

What I can't stand is how they continue to make her have her part 1 persona, even after the timeskip. The whole point of the timeskip for her was to show that she had matured and changed her personality. Authors who do this, clearly just have a personal bias and that I cannot tolerate.

One of the best things ff.net did was ban that format.

That explains it quite often. They make her act so bad and so unreasonable that Naruto has no choice but to hate her. Thus, he is free from that apparent burden and the desired character is free to swoop in and save him from his misfortune. It's a cheap plot device and I hate it. A corollary of this is that it's meant to make Naruto bitter, angry, and emotionless.

And some people just hate Sakura and either are unable or unwilling to keep their own biases out of the story. To some extent, it's expected, but it's one thing to if it's a part of the general ideas, principles and so on, it's another if those biases are nothing more than character preferences. It's not too much to ask that an author be fair to the characters from which they borrow. It's possible to treat a character poorly without bashing them. Sakura doesn't have to live happily ever after, but I have a problem when that misery is the result of typecasting her into a one-dimensional character.

And I don't understand Yoshimoto's complaint about the harems. If she loves Sakura are we forbidden from doing alternate pairings and if they are as likely as you farting lightning are completely bound by canon? Such an approach to me is too strict a restriction on creativity, besides if we can do neither what is the point of fanfiction. If other possibilities are problematic, then we should just read the manga.

I dislike harems for the most part as well, but not for the same reasons. Many times they're just written as if it's compensation for Naruto's hard life. Moreover, everyone I've read, without fail, makes use of SuperNaruto. Finally, and most problematic, most authors who write them have trouble with one relationship and now they have struggle with many, including the complexity of all the overlapping relationships in the harem. Most of the time, the girls are too accepting too quickly and only their love for Naruto is played out in any detail leaving the relationships between the various girls inadequately developed. Yoshimoto is right in that many modern societies do not practice pologamy, which means that it makes and even harder sell. It's stunning that that no one blinks twice at him with multiple girls in almost all harems. And more often than not, the pacing is often really poor with him hooking up with multiple girls in the span of a few chapters.

Harem's could work in a story if the author creates separate side stories for all the girls and their relationship with each other.

However, the biggest problem is which girl wouldn't mind another girl. The only one who could fit in with all of them is Tenten, only because her character could be shaped in pretty much any way you want.

For the most part though, if you want Naruto paired up with more than one girl, I'd probably say just another one would be ideal. Three would work to, but any more is just plain overkill.

Harem fics tend to suffer from the same circumstances as super!pairing fics; the types where everyone has to be hooked up with someone. This only works well with crack, because there's just so little characterisation.

Yes Harems written as a serious fic tend to lack...substance.
But I do enjoy the comedic written ones the famous crack fics of Naruto comes back from training with Jiraiya and suddenly has fangirls lol.

one thing I'm starting to in fanfics is rushed plots. I've seen stories out there that are like 2000 words across 10 chapters and include A/N's that gets annoying cause it is just a outline it seems

I seem to hate the authors who decide what pairing to use depending on a poll. Its like they cant decide what to do and ask us, those authors are easily influenced by others as well in reviews and ussualy never finish a story

AH! I totally agree. Shouldn't the person be inspired to have it written a certain way? I mean really, it's their fic, shouldn't they be calling the shots? I feel as though they only do it for the review count.

Yeah, I agree. Sakura calling Naruto 'Naruto-kun' all the time is annoying. Now, if she were to use it occasionally when she's teasing or flirting with him, I can handle that

Leney says no it's not. People totally misuse the japanese honorifics, which is dumb cause a little research will go a long way. Either that or you don't have to use them at all, we are writing in English anyways.

Sakura calling Naruto, Naruto-kun, doesn't mean she's in love with him. In fact if we're going to try to be authentic, it would be the exact opposite.

It's the lack of a suffix that conveys intimacy. While -chan is cutsey and familiar, kun is just polite, and in some cases a bit distant. Not as distant as san, but there you go.

And speaking the misuse of Japanese, SasuNaru writers:

Teme does not mean bastard.

It literally means "you" but like the word "I" the Japanese language has various words the mean the same thing but with different' connotations:

Anata means you
Kimi means you and it implies intimacy and familiarity
Omae means you but it's not very polite.
Teme means you but it's very harsh and rude. It's like saying "you bastard" or "you m-fer" or something. If you want to start a fight, you teme.

So I have to roll my eyes when fandom has Naruto says things like "Well I was out hanging with the teme the other day..." or "Sasuke-teme".

Uh does "I was hanging out with the you mfer," or "Sasuke-you bastard" make sense? Nope!

-High School fics, who cares if the characters went to High School? Some of us have to actually DEAL with High School, and don't want to read about it.

-Bad grammar/spelling, it's fine if it's a little slip-up, but if it's all 1337-speak or something an eight-year old could write better, pay more attention in school! If your making the effort to write a story, give a sorted effort to correct mistakes!

-Majorly OOC fics, Naruto=emo? I don't think so, Sasuke=retarded? no, just, no.

I don't mind OOC but when there is no reason for it, then i hate it.

Though i have to say, my biggest developing hate is overly rushed story lines. Doesn't matter how good the plot is, if your running at 20 chapters with less than 20,000 words of actual story, it seems just to light on story.

I hate when authors write those feminist Kunoichi fics where the five girls of Naruto are all extremely beautiful and sexy and always totally pwn the boys, which in reality would be completely impossible, and they win by seducing them and then using their oh-so goddess like strength beat them, and it somehow magically works with ever boy including Neji and Sasuke etc. who on more realistic terms would never fall for such cheap tricks, I also hate when people set out to write about a specific character and they always make this character have such a horrible and overly-done angsty past and is really suffering beneath his/her mask that she/he wears for the world, and that he/she is really a strong and god-like shinobi but nobody see's that and so on and so forth (this mainly happens with Sakura and/or Naruto, and Hinata) truthfully there are many things that bug me about fanfics but i don't really have the energy to name them right now, those are just some that i could think of at the moment

I've been scrounging around looking for new stories in the NaruSaku database on Fanfiction.net... And yet I've been digging up crappy-as-kitten stories. What the hell is it with every author who thinks they can write and put in crappy summaries that have no grammatical sense.

Or yet, better... stupid crossovers that would never exist unless both authors of both worlds start smoking crack.

I.e. Naruto x Transformers, Naruto x Harry Potter, Naruto x The person's imaginary crack world, Naruto x Pokemon, etc.

I simply ask these authors, WTF?

Did your parents smack your heads too much? How the hell do giant killer robots fit in a Ninja universe? Or hell, how does Naruto go into Harry Potter's world? Or the fact that Naruto RANDOMLY becomes a Pokemon Trainer?


The typical HPx Naruto crossover story looks like this: "Dumbledore has hired ninjas to protect Harry Potter. NaruSaku, no yaoi. R&R plz." And when you look inside, its a bunch of nonsensical pairings instead.

I think Im gonna end my rant here, but I am seriously getting pissed off at the amount of kitten stories our pairings get on a daily basis.

Does NH and SS hire spies to spam our database? Cause I'll retaliate with more DESU! stories for their database.

A warning to new authors, I am a major flame person, so please, don't write any of these stupid crossover stories. If you're gonna do one, make it reasonable and not like: OMG DUMBLEDORE HIRED NINJAS!
