Well.
They couldn't have written a worse Hokage ceremony for Naruto. 16 years of waiting to see him become Hokage and this is the garbage we get? smh.

Anyone else feel really sorry that Naruto never got to see the moment he has been striving his whole life for. Honestly this one shot really felt more like Kishi throwing a bone to Hyuga/Himwari fans then Naruto becoming Hokage. There is a time and place to asspull a byakugan for Himawari but the one shot is not it.

Yeah, I didn't even know the mophead had fans. I seriously don't know how anyone could take that scene seriously and say she's a female Gohan. It was just for a laugh and it failed at that.
They couldn't have picked a worse time because this one-shot was supposed to be NARUTO'S moment where he becomes the Hokage. There's not enough words to explain how stupid it is that he can't even attend his own Hokage ceremony because his daughter knocks him out with one attack, and all just for a joke?
The sad thing is this doesn't even really upset me that much because this kind of trash writing is just the norm in Naruto now.

I don't think that is the issue. I think the issue is that the series makes no effort to explain anything. That Naruto was a great warrior in battle does not mean he is going to be a great leader off it. It's not much of stretch to say they just thought he was too young or that though he displayed the ability he had not consistently displayed the temperament to lead. Whether you agree with the reasons or not there are at least plausible ones.
I cannot simply assume age alone because it wasn't an impediment to Gaara. While that was mostly the authors way of demonstrating his acceptance, it still happened and a consequence is that Naruto being too young cannot simply be assumed.
That Kakashi went first does not eliminate Naruto's deeds prior to that. However, it's strange to see someone else take the mantle when this is Naruto's goal from the get go, what the story was leading to from the very beginning, and when Kakashi seemed lukewarm to the idea the first time. Naruto's journey led up to this and someone else gets it instead and we only get that ge got it some years down the line with no explanation as to why as to any of it.
Given the construction of the story I don't think he can do what he did without explaining why.
Personally, I think the real reason was to allow Obito to have vicariously. To allow Kakashi to fulfill Obito's dream, which makes me want to puke. Of course, given the overlap between Naruto and Obito I have no clue why this cannot be done with Naruto.
EDIT: The other issue with it is that the whole actions seems to be needless filler. It does nothing for the characters or story.

It is obvious that he was order to make the one shot about the girl some time after finished the gaiden. In the gaiden Naruto was hokage when Sasuke left for years he he looks like he became hokage right before the gaiden started as far as I can tell.

The only thing in my mind is "You can't let Naruto have anything nice, can you? He wanted Sakura, she goes with Sasuke. He wanted to bring Sasuke back, Sasuke leaves for 15 years or more. He wanted to be Hokage, you have to ruin it by making his own daughter kick his ass."
Nothing was done in Naruto's favor and he basically became, like Sakura, the whipping boy and huge joke of the series. I am just utterly even more disgusted more by it when you have some fans be like "Well, he became Hokage and you should be happy for that." No, he didn't become Hokage. He became a joke. The position became a joke, the ceremony became a joke, everything became one huge massive joke because Hinata and her daughter had to reign supreme above all else.
It really comes to this...if you like the ending then you really are nothing more than either pairing fanboy or a Hinata fanboy who is easily amused by pieces of candy here and there.

That's exactly what I feel too, James. I also think that there's only one phrase that fits Masashi Kishimoto for making his hero and heroine the butt of the joke just to please his favoritism for Sasuke and his fans (or the fanatics') favoritism for Hinata; "You're just comprised of FAIL, aren't you?"

hiruzens face palming as orochimaru managed to get away with everything
jiraiya and nagato are rolling in their grave because naruto didn't really achieve piece
tobirama is rolling his eyes over what a joke the chuunin exams have become a game
minato is disappointed in his son for throwing away his mothers retconed fugly scarf (seriously white with green stripes?!) lying to him and shaming his family lineage
and hashirama....he doesnt care as long as he gets to "dance" with madara in the afterlife.
