I'd imagine waiting a week each time for 16 pages will get negativity from the fandom, but this is obviously one of the negative cases. Let's not forget that we can't expect things to happen every week. Some chapter's focus has to be on build up; others on explanations and the like. Of course, I understand where others are coming from when saying that the pace is too slow. After all, each week a 16 page chapter is released. In the anime, three chapters can be squeezed into one episode. Doing the math, we get one-third of anime a full anime episode. I understand how people can get frustrated when one chapter doesn't live up to par. I just refuse to get upset over such things, and look at the positive. We can complain all we like that "nothing happened this chapter!" or "A chapter was wasted rehashing the same material", but it doesn't change anything, does it?
Most of the frustration this time is about Sakura. I don't agree with some saying she's looking toward Sasuke to care about her. In my opinion, it was never about Sasuke. Sakura's insecurities aren't new. They were introduced since chapter 54. Her goal was to stand with the boys and not be relegated to the back. She thought she caught up to them in chapter 632. However, that was before they were deemed chosen ones by Hagoromo, and given god-like powers (at least temporarily), and it didn't help her own debut in chapter 632 was less than extraordinary with her having to be helped after her latest feat. In chapter 676, Sakura felt that distance again from them. Also, from then on, it was only Naruto and Sasuke fighting, with her and Kakashi just being there. Sasuke, being him, didn't help by bluntly saying she can't do anything, and in the latest chapter, he flat out says he saved her and Kakashi, just because of positioning, and harps on he and Naruto are the only ones truly necessary in this battle, implying the others are just dead weight, and they shouldn't waste time worrying about them. Understandably, this did not help her confidence issues. Also, even though, Sakura knows what to expect from Sasuke, those words still hurt, because she still cares about him, and will never stop caring about him, just like Naruto. As they say, words hurt the most when it's from someone you care about.
If anything, this is why she got scared when it looked like Naruto was agreeing with Sasuke. She wasn't there when Itachi lectured Naruto on not forgetting his comrades, and doing everything himself. In fact, even if she was there, the fact is that Naruto is now one of the strongest people ever, and anyone can get absorbed in power. Sasuke looks to be following that path. It's well within Sakura's fear to worry that Naruto might become that way. However, he still remains himself, and refutes what Sasuke was saying using his own words from back during the Land of Waves. Sakura was assured Naruto is still the same Naruto.
