I'm sorry, but it really does seem like Kishi has no idea how to properly female characters. Either that or he just doesn't want to. Either way Sakura is doomed. The Gaara arc clearly showed us that Kishi knows perfectly well how to make Sakura awesome, so either he forgot how to or he just didn't care or he forgot or some other lame excuse.
Despite all that, I still think he did an okay job. At the very least it always seemed to me like he honestly tried to depict her as an awesome heroine. Then he pretty much threw her under the bus by stating that the reason for her lack of development was because she wasn't popular enough. He could be lying, especially in light of the recent rumors but still that's no way to treat your heroine.
He did an ok job with her however the end is what counts now. And that's where the problem occurs.

Indeed. She ended up going in one big circle by essentially regressing back to her part 1 self. I know it's still just a rumour, but this blatant and out of nowhere character assassination really leads me to believe that Kishi lost control of the series. Otherwise I just don't see how anyone can consider this good character development.
