Can someone explain to me why/how Yaoi is so popular?

On one hand, I get irked when I see people spaz out over Yaoi, liek "OMG my fic not Yaoi, all the characters are straight straight straight!" because 90% of the time it reads like aversive homophobia, basically "Yes, I'd rather stay in my heteronormative bubble of privlege where gay people do not exist, tra la la!"
But at the same time, I don't automatically assume that everyone who writes Yaoi is pro-homosexuality or anything. In fact I think that a good number of people are just fetishizing the whole thing which is just as bad as being homophobic. I'd love to hear a gay person's take on slash fiction, really. *decides to google it*
Like someone said, it's the equivalent of guys who get off on two girls going at it. They think it's hot, but do the really agree with it? Not really.
But getting off that note, I remember reading on fanficrants, that someone commented that Yaoi was basically the only way she could ship in fandom, because Anime lacks strong and/or likeable females. You either have the man haters or you have the wimpy shy girls. No inbetween.
I don't usually feel that's the case, but then again I read a lot of shoujo manga (which has its share of problems, but for the most part the girls are not doormats and likeable) and the girl listed a bunch of shonen series. I can see what she's talking about.

But yes, Yaoi is extremely popular.
The most popular pairings in Japan are yaoi ones.
Well, I think some girls like it for the same reasons guys like two girls.
However, I don't like it.

Sasuke
Anyway, I can stand boys love, in fact it can actually put me to sleep as well, but you'll still have to pay me to read anything SasuNaru/NaruSasu (would Sasuke be the seme or the uke?

Hrm... my friend is a huge fan of hardcore Yaoi, but I tend to stay low with the settle stuff, a little soft yuri as well.
I go to an all girls school... my friend was asked if she and her other friend were a couple 4 times....

I know what you mean. There's this crud about MPREG ( I mean what the heck?) and other really unnessacary stuff like that. I doubt there's hardly any well done yaoi fics out there.

Team 7 pairings
1. SasuNaru
2. SasuSaku
3. NaruSaku
4. NaruSasu
So, SasuNaru is more popular than SasuSaku according to Google.
Plus, Yaoi/Yuri is just not my thing. No offense.

1) SasuSaku/SakuSasu 615,500
2) SasuNaru/NaruSasu 590,000
3) NaruHina/HinaNaru 496,600
4) NaruSaku/SakuNaru 339,000
SasuSaku beats out SasuNaru... hmmm Those results were opposite a while ago.
Im against Yaoi and Yuri. I dont like ethier of them.
But SasuNaru fans kinda makes sense. Although the kiss was accidental, its still there. And Naruto ALWAYS talks about getting Sasuke back. ALWAYS. One could argue that its more than brotherly bonds, and some have.
Im totally against it, but there is some actual reason behind their fan base. I think its crazy and REALLY reaching, but they do have a little reason.

For orphans, best friends can sometimes act as brothers. Come on, even for us with parents, u and ur friends can treat each other as siblings or sth.
Just basing it on that is nonsensical. And man, still not believing that NaruSasu has that many stuff... DX

I've read NaruSasu and I think I prefer it because you won't find some weird characters taking the place of Naruto or Sasuke. Naruto just happens to be the one who tops. Everything else is generally IC.
But a lot of the SasuNaru I've read, feature Super Uke Naruto. Physically feminine, emotionally unstable and highly rapeable. Bleh!
Although one of my favorite fics is The Ultimate Uke Syndrome, lol. Actually rosesareblue writes a lot of good SasuNaru.

They shared a history even before Team 7 was formed.
Technically speaking, that did start their foundation, but I personally think that led them into having their strong bond/brotherhood. I never saw that as anything romantic either. I even go out of my way to avoid the SasuNaru fandom, mainly because yaoi is not my my cup of tea, and I find the fans kind of rabid. ^^;; But I guess thats only the n00bs, though. One of my best friends is an avid SasuNaru shipper, but she stated on her shrine for them that she's strongly passionate about their brotherhood and their rivlary interaction too. Thats why I have a lot of respect for her. She's the only mature SasuNaru fan I've seen. If anybody else can provide me with actual, legitimate reasons why they like SasuNaru instead of, "ZOMG SASUNARU ISH TEH HOTNESS!!!!11!!shift+one!!!!" then maybe I'll change my mind about the fandom in general.

As for the reason why yaoi is so popular, I guess its because the majority of the fanbase are girls, and they see pretty boys and sexy bishounen rivlaries, fights or interaction, so they automatically pair them up together because of that. Thats just how I see it though, I could be wrong. :/
(OT: Wow, my first actual discussion post here. XD; *hides*)

I'm fine with Boy's Love, can't stand Yaoi.
The thing is, some has to be Seme the other has to be Uke, generally Naruto is the Uke, however. From my view, Naruto isn't the type to be the uke, neither is Sasuke.
Thus it's a SemeSeme pairing to me.
Some SasuNaru/NaruSasu fans are out there for the light Boys Love, not the hardcore Yaoi, there is a difference.
