I agree Harry, But I don't think as human beings that we can avoid stereotypes because we all do it. What we should cosider is as you say not let the the stereotype affect how we see a nation or group based on ethnicity, race or what have you. I actually learned from a couple pf psychology and sociology classes that stereotyping occurs because humans for the most part don't think more than necessary unless it is absolutely necessary. So when we observe a few or less cultural aspects of a nation or group, we accociate it with all members not because we think it's universal but because we don't feel like thinking everytime we meet a member of a certain group. They probably also thought their partners would like to sit in the corner and watch and cry as they molested their partner.
The sad part is this is how Japan is seen by those who don't take the time to view the country as a whole, but as the way it is portrayed through it's export and media. They class the whole country (or religion) in one stereotype they have created through small tidbits of information.
It's not like Japan doesn't do it itself, you just have to check their portrayal of foreigners, I bet Japanese Tourists who go to Britain for the first time are dissapointed to learn we are not all rich, blonde blue eyes, tea drinking snobs, (and if female with drill curls) In fact I've been here all my life and i've never met someone that meet those requirements.
Stereotypes, we need to as a planet work harder to destroy them, I know I do it myself, and need to work harder to try to not let it cloud my view of a nation.

So they watch some porn and suddenly think it's perfectly okay to grope a woman without permission. Not only are they misogynists who lack respect for fellow human beings who happen to have vaginas but they are also racists for thinking Japanese women like being molested. How could a human being be so ignorant?
